After the emergency cabinet meeting, Karina spent a two hours arranging increased security for the various educational facilities. Then, hoping she had given enough time she put in a call to the Mathis residence to speak to Ren about security for Jessie.

Enger, DOE

It took a few moments, but the call was answered by Ren themselves. Then again, it wasn’t a stretch to think that Jeanette was dealing with everything related to Jones. Jessie’s parent was clearly exhausted but there was resolved in their eyes. “Director Enger, how can I help you?“

[O]Ren, I am so sorry. Please extend my condolences. I am sorry to call, but we are adjusting Security at the schools. Especially for the children of notable members of the colony. I know Jessie may not feel up to attending classes, but when he does, I want to make sure there is a plan in place.[C]

Enger, DOE

Ren nodded. “Thank you, I will pass on your condolences. As for Jessie…” They drew in a deep breath. “As you can imagine, security has already been tightened and elevated around our home and the embassy. While he does have a security detail we’ve usually let them give him a tiny bit of leeway so their presence isn’t so in the face of other kids. That of course will have to change, at least for the time being. His guards will insist they bring him right to the entrance and from there, he’ll be n the care of the school.“

[O]We have heightened security of course, and the police and CCDA are providing additional personnel. Does Jessie carry any kind of panic device or tracker? Given the current situation it might not be a bad idea. I am happy to allow his security detail access to our surveillance equipment to monitor him or allow them to accompany him in the building.[C]

Enger, DOE

Ren frowned, though it was slight. “ He doesn’t, no, but I can bring it up with his detail.” They were well used to dealing with security and their family being at risk- you weren’t married to an Ambassador without reconciling those risks. But it had been a long time since they had had to face those risks head on, rather than let them be in the background of their lives.

“I’m not going to force him to go back right away, but I’ll contact the school about his work. I think especially until we have more details about the situation, his mother will be wanting him to stay close to home for now.“
