Kenzo carried the drinks into the room and looked at Eela and Karilan. “Coffee and tea.” He said as he set the tray down. “Now if you will excuse me, there are fires burning that must be extinguished.” He looked at Eela and said “You will find some to rest and recuperate. That is not negotiable, Captain.” He looked at Karilan. “I am holding you responsible for her well-being, Massat.” He then looked at Caridee and said “Contact me directly if there is any assistance you require. And thank yiu for your work here today. It was more important than you may know.” And with that, he turned and walked out the door.
Hyrushi, Governor
There was so much to say and so much that would simply have to wait. Eela watched him leave, feeling uneasy that she was leaving him to handle things. It was supposed to them together at a time like this, but she could feel the fatigue in her body now and knew she would just have to be patient.
Sharah had woken many minutes ago. Ready to get up and go check on people. Yavia wouldn’t let her. Her relief that Sharah was awake was physical. There was absolutely no way she was going to let her get up yet. Not until she had thoroughly checked her, and held her in her arms for long minutes. But eventually her stubbornness wouldn’t let her rest, and Yavia reluctantly let her get up.
Yavia
Sharah wasn’t quite all there. She felt detached from herself. Like her body was living one existence and her soul another. Almost like they were communicating over a long distance. She was aware of the minds and emotions of everyone on Oed, she was separate but attached to them. She couldn’t seem to break free. She had to make sure they were okay. She knew Eela was. She’d felt it before she passed out. She could hear her speaking from down the hall. There was no panic or sorrow immediately around her. But Kenzo. She had to make sure. There had been a surprising intimacy in the connection they’d formed, and he’d risked a lot to help Eela.
Yavia wanted her to rest, but she couldn’t, not yet. Yavia walked with her, arm around her waist into the hall. She wasn’t quite present, not quite anchored in the physical, the contact helped. She saw Hyrushi step out of Eela’s room. “Kenzo?” She moved toward him, reaching a hand out to him, her eyes taking all of him in, the bandages, his expression, his posture.
Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO
He turned and looked at her, giving her a half-bow. “Doctor Fayth. I am glad to see you awake. How are you feeling?”
Hyrushi, Governor
Sharah refrained from touching him, not wanting to intrude. She understood much better now the toil it took. “Slightly detached, a bit … lost. It will pass.” She thought so anyway. It was a new experience for her. “And you, Governor? How are you feeling?” It was no easy thing they did, and they both had their own sets of consequences.
Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO
“As I informed the very insistent Nurse earlier, I will be fine in a few hours. The pain has subsided significantly.” he said, even though that was a lie. It was slowly receding, but he knew he would feel it long after the burns faded away over the next little while.
Hyrushi, Governor
“Ilena is very good at her job. She worries about her patients.” Sharah smiled, and Yavia outright chuckled quietly. “We are here to care for you as well. Please tell us if you need something. This is, uncharted territory all the way around.”
Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO
Hyrushi nodded once and then said “I have pressing matters to attend to. Do stay as long as you need. Doctor Fayth. Nurse Crockett.” He turned and walked down the hall and down the stairs out of sight.
Hyrushi, Governor
“Thank you,” Sharah watched him go, knowing full well he wouldn’t ask, and understanding, or hoping she understood, that he was uncomfortable with being cared for. Yavia took Sharah back to the guest room and then went to the kitchen for food for her.
Ilena had cleaned and straightened the room where she had cared for the governor. Then the two nurses entered Eela’s room and quietly collected and packed all the equipment. They left a meditation with a few typos and the portable bed scanner for Sevren and then left the room.

Mathis sent a message to both Eela and Kenzo letting them both know that she had spoken to Ambassador Kek, whom extended his condolences. As discussing the best way to proceed, both her and herself agreed to meet in two days to have the conversations they had planned to today. Kek also wanted to be present at any death rituals for Jones. She also explained their tradition of taking the cremated remains and creating beautiful gemstones as a remembrance. Jones’ wishes were to be cremated already, but she was going to check with his family before agreeing to the touching ritual. As soon as she had spoken again with the family about arrangements and his body could be released, she’d set a date for some sort of memorial here on Oed before he was sent home to his family.
Jeannette Mathis, Federation Ambassador
Eela sipped on her tea as the nurses came and left and she understood that things were wrapping up. That must mean everyone was okay. She could sense Sharah still here and as much as she desperately wanted to go see her, she knew Karilan and Caridee would something to say about that.
Caridee was drinking her coffee and watching her mother, and the two made eye contact. “Stop staring,” Eela said, though there was a warm tone to the command.
“I’m watching, not staring. Two very different things,” Caridee said.
Eela turned to look at Karilan. “So she says.”
“Oh, they are.” Karilan said. “She is watching… I’m staring.” and they chuckled.
Eela couldn’t help but grin a little. “Really? Am I giving something worth staring at?” she said, almost flirting with Karilan. The line was decidedly fine.
Caridee just shook her head. “Drink your tea. Then we’ll get you up so you can use the washroom, then your calls, then sleep. The governor gave us orders after all, and I for one don’t want to be on the receiving end of what happens if we don’t follow through.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“Oh, I am in total agreement there. That man could make ice feel cold-.” Karilan said, but the rest was lost as something about thinking about anger triggered something in Eela…
She was in an office. Off in the distance a siren was sounding. She was seated in a chair, looking across a desk at a Cardassian. He wore the armor of the Dominion, but had a kind of official-looking pendant sitting on his chest. Her arm hurt, and she was filled with a burning hatred for the figure across from her.
The Cardassian stood up and said “I’m not worried about their debt. I’m calling in yours. Now give the ID of -” and he was cut short as a loud explosion was heard all across the town. The Cardassian’s eyes went to the window as Eela’s hand went to her injured forearm. Deftly, she pressed the edges of the wound and grimaced as a piece of blood-blackened wood protruded out from it. She grasped it and yanked it free, revealing a thin, sharpened wooden spike almost eight inches long. As the Cardassian turned back, she thrust the spike into his throat and pulled him over the desk towards her and onto the floor at her and her companion’s feet before pulling the spike free and letting black ichor spray from the wound. She locked her eyes on the shocked face of the Cardassian.
“Me! Me! I’m Smoke! And you have paid for what you have done!” she growled in a strange but somehow familiar voice as the life blood flowed out of the Cardassian and pooled at their feet. She dropped the Cardassian to the floor and looked at her companion; a strikingly severe but not at all unattractive looking human with a shaved head. “Run. They won’t suspect you in the chaos. GO! NOW!” she shouted…
And then she was in the bedroom and sitting next to Karilan who said “- if he wanted to.” and they laughed.
Karilan… and something else
The monitors beeped at the sudden escalation in heart rate as Eela panted from the exertion that was not hers. She blinked, taking in the room she had ben in for the last couple of hours and forced herself to breathe.
“Mom?!” Caridee said, setting her coffee down with alacrity and sitting on the edge of her bed. Her eyes scanned the readouts and then her mother.
“I’m okay, ” she said between shuddered breaths. “It’s… nothing.”
“Like hell,” Caridee said. “Your psilosynine levels just spiked.”
She would not, under any circumstances, break his privacy, but Eela also knew not answering at all wouldn’t get her anywhere. “Canar aftereffects,” is all she said as she tried to not focus on the memory. It would stay with her though, as if it felt embedded in her own memory.
Caridee nodded, but did not in any way seem mollified.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Karilan took Eela’s hand and said “Just breathe. Whatever it was, it’s passed. Do you want to tell us about it?” they asked.
Karilan
Eela shook her head. “It’s not mine to share,” she said softly drinking more of her tea.
After tea, and getting up with help (she was feeling her back a bit after being silly and sleeping with her brace on), Eela settled in and made the call to Iven. And then the police commissioner.
By that point Eela was physically and emotionally exhausted. She let them help her into a lying position and she turned to face Karilan, scooching over so there was more room. “You’ve been here for ages, my dear. Please don’t feel like you can’t go if you need to. But if you do stay, at least be comfortable.” In truth it would feel nice to sleep knowing tangibly that someone was there, but Eela was mindful that there was a lot going on and she didn’t want to be selfish here. Caridee was here too.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Karilan simply slipped off their shoes and slid in next to Eela. “Shut up and go to sleep.” they said softly and put their arms around her, pulling her close.
Karilan
With a smile on her face, Eela let her body settle in. Normally she would sleep on her stomach to take pressure on her back, but the reassurance of Karilan’s arms around her was too lovely to give up. And she hoped that maybe having someone who cared about her so deeply in such close proximity would help her mind and body find some equilibrium. She slipped her hand over for a moment to make contact with Karilan. I rather love it when you’re bossy with me.
Caridee said nothing and crept out of the room with a smile. She moved down the hall to see if Sharah was awake still, wanting to check in on the doctor who had risked a great deal to help her mother. Whether it was a sense of duty or more, Caridee knew that Fayth and Hyrushi didn’t have to have risked themselves for Eela. But they did anyway. She herself might have had the right pieces to set all this in motion, but they saved her and there were no words to truly express that gratitude. After all she and her mother had been through, she had not ben prepared for even the idea that she might lose her mother in some significant way today.
~Eela & Caridee
Sharah was sitting cross-legged on the bed with Yavia and Ilena. She was eating a small snack, and not nearly as much as Yavia would prefer. She looked up, “Dr. Sevren. Is everything alright?”
Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO
Caridee nodded and gestured with her head down the hall. “She’s resting, finally, and her vitals are stable. I expect her neurotransmitter levels will take a day or so to fully return to baseline but they are continually moving in that direction. I just wanted to see how you were doing, and…”Dee eyed the three women and smiled softly. “And I wanted thank you all for you help. For what you were willing to risk,” she said, her last comment said as she focused on Sharah.” She pressed her hand to her heart and bowed to them in the Haliian tradition. A greeting yes, but also one given to show respect and gratitude.
~Caridee
The three women returned a similar gesture from their own culture. Ilena and Sharah being almost identical. “We are glad she is okay. We will wait about half an hour to make sure there is no relapse, then we will clear out so everyone can rest.she will be extremely sensitive until her levels return to normal. Make sure anyone who needs to know is aware.”
