Commander Cattaneo went ahead and started hitting the right combination of panels in order to start the scan on the first moon. He was curious of how far away it was and how accurate and detailed of a scan which could be obtained form this distance. He was hoping for some good detail from the scan to try and pin-point the missing people. He waited for an output from the computer. He enjoyed the response time of the ship and how detailed some of the previous reports he had seen before.

SFCOS

There was nothing obvious on sensors for the first moon. It was a barren piece of rock and there was nothing, not even a hint of hull.

Hannah pulled up a copy of the original distress call and played it. Hoping it would give them some idea of where to find them.

||This is a general distress call. Our small research vessel crashed at a gas giant with five moons in the Yalk-… We’re stuck… losing life support. Archie has a head wound and is not well well. I repeat, this is the Research Vessel Sutaane and this is a general distress call.||

Hannah scanned the sensor readings. Yalkin III was the only gas giant. She set the sensors to look for recent debris. It had been 10 hours or more so any impact debris might have dissipated by now, but it was worth checking if they coukd find the Sutaane faster. “They may have had to reroute power from communications to bolster life support, but I am going to try and contact them anyway. Looks like suits will be necessary.”

=/\=Research Vessel Sutaane this is the Shuttle Tolypeutinae of the USS Centurion. We are enroute around Yalkin III. What is your status?=/\=

As she spoke, Hannah was already pulling on her EVA suit, with a skill and efficiency that showed hmyears of experience.

Lt. Asimina, AMO

Tiberius heard the response from the shuttle and Asimina. He then looked over at Asimina and stated, “We need to get over there as quickly as possible. I do not believe they have much left before its too late.” He was nervous and knew it was important. He then went ahead and put on his EVA suit as well. He was expecting to get send over to help the shuttle along with Lt Asimina.

OOC: that wasn’t a new response from the shuttle, that was the original distress call.
IC:
There wasn’t anything clear in terms of a response, but there was a brief moment of comm static that originated on the 4th moon. Sensors couldn’t pinpoint an exact location, but there seemed to be a very brief spike of energy on the southern hemisphere of the barren moon.

Captain McBride, Starfleet CO

“Cmdr., no direct response, but I’m getting some comm static. It seems to be coming from the southern half of the fourth moon,” Asimina said from the station she was working from.

Asimina, AMO

From the comm static, he knew they needed to head directly to the fourth moon. He navigated the shuttle directly to the fourth moon and then started a scan on the southern hemisphere. He went ahead and hit the comm station from his navigation location on the shuttle and said, =/\=Commander Cattaneo to USS Centurion, we are headed to the fourth moon as it seems the distress signal is coming from there. Based on the data we have, it seems to be coming from the southern hemisphere of the planet. Will update you when we have additional information. Cattaneo out=/\=. As soon as the shuttle arrived at the fourth moon, he started to do a scan so maybe he could find where they were in order either land or transport over, depending on what was possible.

Lt Cmdr Cattaneo
COS

There was an acknowledgement of the update from the Centurion as they continued to monitor the situation.

The comm static was curiously intermittent and there seemed to be a pattern to it.

Hannah listened, tapping the console along with the static and then suddenly, “It’s them! The intermittent static is morse code. It’s an SOS.” Hannah said to Cattaneo. She had used morse code more times than most in Star Fleet and had perfect confidence in her interpretation of the pattern.

Tiberius looked over at Hannah and nodded at her, “I am starting to hear the pattern as well. It is unexpected but it always works when comms are down. I am not sure if I would have picked it up. Good job.” He then looked at the computer to try and get much closer to help find what was needed.

The moon itself was quite rugged with deep valleys and high ridges. The comm static seemed to be coming from the edge of a valley near the site of one of the crevices. They were having a hard time getting accurate reading due to the mineral makeup of the moon, but narrowing in on the area so far had helped a bit and the closer they got, the better their reading became. It was within 50km of the possible comm static location that they detected signs of Federation hull materials.

Captain McBride, Starfleet CO

Hannah watched out the window looking as they passed around the area they detected the comm location. “We’ll need the exterior lights to see anything down there.”

Asimina, AMO

Tiberius then hit the buttons to turn on the exterior lights and started scanning in a pattern to help narrow down the space. He wanted to find the downed folks as quickly as possible and using the shuttle would be way faster than doing it on foot. He also continued to monitor the computer to hopefully have additional help trying to find the downed crew. He moved the shuttle in a normal security pattern to find missing things, including people in the most timely way. He waited to see what he saw out of the window. He also said to Hannah, “Please keep an eye out for them as I might miss them if I look up at the wrong time. If you are able to send out a signal in Morse code, see if they can make a fire or something to make it very simple to find them.”

Lt Cmdr Cattaneo
COS

OOC: Any way I could get some info on where the folks are in order to help rescue them.

OOC: I gave you some, but I guess I will need to be more obvious.

Tiberius continued to scan the ground both with his eyes and what limited sensors and scanners of the shuttle craft as he could. He was hoping that Hannah would help him out with keeping an eye on things to hopefully find the people needing rescue.

Lt Cmdr Cattaneo
COS

Hannah was adjusting the comms to send back a code. There was no way they could start a fire without an atmosphere, but if they had enough power maybe they could turn on their external lights. She sent a simple one word message: lights. She set it to repeat and hoped they understood. Of course they may not be conscious to respond.

After sending the message she moved toward the front of the shuttle to lean towards the window trying to spot the downed runabout.

Asimina, AMO

The sensors were still picking up Starfleet hull materials and though they couldn’t pick up the exact location, within a 5 kilometre radius Hannah was able to spot a flash of metal as the shuttle’s lights. There was a piece of something poking up from one of the crevices. It wasn’t a deep crevice, about ten meters deep, but it was narrow and hard to see inside clearly from their angle.

Captain McBride, Starfleet CO

Tiberius saw something shiny when the lights went over a crevice. He could barely see it but wanted to tell Hannah. “Asimina, can you confirm you see the same piece of metal in that crevice?” He pointed while he was talking to Hannah. He was hoping his eyes were not deceiving him. He brought the shuttle to a hole where he saw it and if he got confirmation from Hannah, he would do a more precise look.

Lt Cmdr Cattaneo
COS

Hannah moved to get a better look. “Looks like hull plating, and it’s coming from within the radius of the starfleet hull the sensor picked up. If we can get closer we should, otherwise we can suit up and beam over.”

Asimina, AMO

Bump

OOC: Sorry, thought we were waiting on a GM. But I noticed I was wrong.

Tiberius looked over at Lt Asimina and said, “Lets see if we can get closer to take a look. Suiting up might be a good step as well as we get closer in order to beam down if needed. Just get your stuff ready but do not suit up yet until we get closer.” Tiberius then moved the ship closer to the location where the sensors picked up the hull plating to see if he could get any closer. He wanted to see what he might be able to see before taking a team over.

Lt Cmdr Cattaneo

Hannah had boarded the shuttle all ready suited up except her gloves and helmet. Her pack was ready, waiting by the small transporter pad. “Aye, Sir.”

As the lights passed closer over the area, the very distinct shape of a ship about runabout sized wedged just below the top edge of the crevice. It was as if the ship had tried to land nearby and driven somehow into the side of the crevice, managing to rest on some sort of ledge, rather than fall into the crevice itself.

The sensor readings were still a bit garbled, but it did seem like the ship had no power. The subtle SOS was still repeating.

Capt. Jonathan McBride, CO, USS Centurion

“There,” Asimina pointed out the window. “It looks wedged in. I can’t tell from here if they landed badly and the runabout fell or the ground crumbled under the ship. We should keep active transporter lock in case.” She scanned the sensor readings. “It looks like they have no power. They have been down there at least 10 hours that we know of. The air in the cabin will be almost gone, if it isn’t already. There is no change in the SOS signal to our reply. We need to get them out of there.”

Lt. Asimina, Asst. Chief Medical Officer

Tiberius thought for a few minutes to determine the best way to do this. He then said to Hannah, “How do you feel about piloting the vessel and letting me beam down to try and get to the folks in the runabouts. I am willing to take the risk. Please let me know.” Tiberius went ahead and stood up and started putting his environmental suit to be able to beam down. While he was doing it, he said to Hannah again, “Also, I will be taking a transporter enhancer to hopefully help with a beam out once I get on the runabout or if something goes majorly wrong. ” He waited for a response from Hannah and continued putting his suit on. He knew this was a very dangerous mission and was not willing to sacrifice the life of another if he was not willing to do it himself.

Lt Cmdr Cattaneo
SFCOS

“Of course, I’m a certified pilot. I can do that. I need you take scans before you beam them back. They may need medical intervention before moving them. I have a spare medical tricorder and can link it to the shuttle so I can see the readings. You would just need to scan them.” Hannah moved toward the pilot’s seat. She also knew that waiting to move them may be a matter of any survival vs death. But advanced scans would give her an idea of what was going on. She linked the medical tricorder with the shuttle and handed it to Cattaneo after he suited up.

Lt. Asimina, Asst. Chief Medical Officer

Tiberius smiled and nodded and continued to put on his suit. After a few minutes, he had his suit on and was ready to go. He grabbed ones of the transporter enchancers and throw it in his backpack. He was ready to go as soon as the shuttlecraft landed and he could step out. He then said to Hannah, “Please set the shuttlecraft down as close as you think is safe and i will get out and then I want you to get the shuttlecraft just above the surface so there is no chance the shuttlecraft will fall into the craves where the runabout is stuck. I will then head down and try and get everyone out of the runabout. Please be ready to beam up as soon as I can get contact and what not.”
