Joseph returned to his office after speaking with the Lieutenant Governor, he’d meet with Pangolin later to inform him of the conversation, he hadn’t written anything down as of course he didn’t need to. He sat down behind his large desk and opened a drawer, grabbing a fresh PaDD that hadn’t been networked yet, using air-gapped technology when working with intelligence was in his opinion necessary. He paired the PaDD with the data disk Reilly had given him earlier that day and waited for the system to decrypt using the standard police decryption key, he was assuming that would be enough for something handed directly to him. If not he wondered if he could brute-force it using Karlson patented tech.

IC: Some time after having left Jones apartment Lial submitted his autopsy report on the deceased.

Physical Examination:
- fractures to left side of the mandible, right zygomatic, right maxilla
- particulate in laceration on right cheek has a tiny piece (2 mm long by 1 mm wide) of leather
- contusion to abdomen with closed fracture (2 cm) to the surface of the fifth right costal cartilage
- spiral fracture of left ulna ( likely because assailant twisted his arm to try to flip him backwards)
- contusions to right hand
- on the lower chest and almost blending into the abdominal contusion is a small and perfectly round contusion from something that might have been a hypo had it been pushed against the skin with great force.
- - The 3D rendering of the spot was consistent with a small blunted round tip on a device meant to be handheld and, in this case, applied with excessive force enough to leave a bruise. The surrounding tissues showed the anatoxin-a still present, though in minute doses given it had had a few minutes to spread through his body.

Internal Exam and Lab Results:
- A subsequent blood tox screen would show Jones had only the barest signs of alcohol in his blood, but there were two very notable toxins that came up:
- - 2 mg of anatoxin-a stemming from the cyanobacteria genus Nostoc
- - - Anatoxin-a was known as Very Fast Death Factor (VFDF). Once injected that dose would have caused twitching, muscle spasms, paralysis, and finally respiratory arrest within minutes.
- - - - Jones’ blood showed a severe lack of oxygen that matched the hypothesis that a cessation of breathing caused death. Brain death followed soon after the metabolic failure of the rest of Jones’ organs.
- an unknown toxin that was flagged from Jones’ skin, specifically the back of his neck. Curiously, it hadn’t penetrated into the blood. The flag generated an alert to both Starfleet Security and the CIA
- - the unknown toxin wasn’t in Jones’ blood, which meant that it wasn’t present before time of death. This substance was applied after Jones had died.
- There were traces of oil where there were larger contusions (except the round one on his chest) that was commonly exuded from ukumien leather; ukumiens are small animals with skins prized for leather due to its sturdy but soft structure.
- - After some research Lial determined that the oil was just a remnant off what the assailant was wearing on their hand when they struck Jones. They were wearing ukumien leather gloves, which was confirmed by the tiny piece of leather embedded in the one cut on Jones’s face. The lab determined that the oil traces came off the glove that was on the hand the struck Jones. That it was oil from the gloves confirms this but also confirms that the same gloves left the remnant. So it’s all traceable. The leather was an unusual type and quite expensive.

Official time of death was 0246 hours.

Cause of Death: Asphyxiation due to complications from lethal dosage of anatoxin-a in his bloodstream
