It didn’t take long to get things moving after the Emergency Cabinet Meeting. They had really built up a pretty robust intelligence network , and Alston was confident that the data analysts had sufficient motivation to keep a close eye out for any threats to colony security. For now almost all other investigations had been put on hold until the current emergency had passed, but he just couldn’t believe that the death of the Federation Ambassador’s aid, and the bugging of the Lt Governor’s personnel residence, especially so closely together, was just a coincidence. The question on how Starfleet security had let both incidents come to pass would be someone else’s problem, but for now Alston was going to follow his hunch. That meant having to go to the Lt Governor’s office at Government Tower. It was only a matter of time before the death became public knowledge, so he had to get in before that happened. It was sure to be swarmed by press, second only to the Federation Embassy, as soon as the news hit. Probably the one downside to good infrastructure, it meant the press could move just that much faster.
Walking in the main door Alson let out a sigh of relief, it looked like he had managed to beat the news. It was definitely a risk he took by not taking the direct transporter from the CIA complex, but it also let him gauge the mood of the people as he made the trip. So far the civilians seemed tense, but most of the chatter was around the Vren’s visit, all to be expected. He did note the additional police presence as he got closer to the tower though, and they were much more present at the security check point in the main lobby. Frustrations among the people milling about were for the normal government bureaucracy, but he could see that the police were definitely keeping a much closer eye on the people moving about. As it should be.
Bypassing the line at the reception desk, Alston made his way over to the security check point.
“Excuse me sir, but you need to check-in at reception before proceeding through the check point,” the officer said as Alston stepped up to the check point. Instead of answering he calmly placed his comm unit on the reader at the desk, letting the unit scan the credentials Reilly had provided him. While a lot of it had been classified for ‘security reasons,’ it was still quite clear that he had access, and definitely not what the officer had been expecting.
Trying not to laugh at the surprised expression on the officers face, Alston raised one finger to his lips in a shushing motion, while his other hand picked up his comm unit.
“Uh, yes sir. Have a good day sir.”
With a smile Alston headed through the check point and proceed up to the Lt Governor’s offices. There was definitely still some perks to not everyone knowing who he was yet.
Stepping out on the 48th floor, Alston looked around. There was the expected hum of business going on, but you could almost feel the tension in the air. Things were going to get very interesting around the colony soon he feared.
“Excuse me sir?”
Alston looked around and found the person calling out to him sitting at a desk close to the lift.
“I’m sorry sir but the Lt Governor is not available today or tomorrow…”
“Thank you, but yes I’m aware. I’m actually here looking for a Mr. Belanger. Would he be available?”

A Napean woman with light purple hair studied Alston. “He might be. May I ask who is asking and what it is about?” The trio of assistants were still working out of their makeshift bunker in Conference Room 3, but that didn’t mean she was just going to let anyone wander in there. They had enough on their plates as it was.

“Of course, I’m Alston Mace with Colonial Intelligence,” he said, even though it was still weird for him to say. He could try to stick to the shadows, but soon enough people would know he was working here. And with the latest news, everyone was going to be on high alert, and he didn’t particularly feel like ending up in a cell just because he didn’t want to answer a few questions.
“There was a security incident involving Captain Dasca the other day, that I believe may be connected to an ongoing investigation.”
