The CCDA Vice-Commander’s slider pulled up in front of the large gates of the House Duroc Embassy; gates which were uncharacteristically shut. Major General Charles Tenkiller cursed. Loudly. He looked at the driver and said “Don’t wait. I’ll call when I’m done.” The CCDA Agent scoffed slightly. “Yeah, General… if you are able to call.” Normally Tenkiller would have laughed… but not tonight. Tonight he knew he was walking into what very well could be a disaster of the highest order…

One that could conceivably cost him his life.

A scant hour and half prior, Tenkiller’s sister Abigail- in a fit of racist rage- had lashed out against the closest non-human target she could find. Unfortunately for her, that ‘target’ turned out to be Lady Duroc; First Lady of House Duroc, Wife of Lord Urg’tohn of House Duroc. Abigail had thrown orange pain all over the couple and then swung the can at the face of Lady Duroc. Even more unfortunately for Abigail, the can connected and actually injured the Klingon woman. Lord Duroc had responded in typical Klingon fashion and grabbed the human woman by her neck and attempted to beat down a wall with her. Multiple finger-shaped contusions on her throat, numerous soft tissue injuries, a compound fractured-broken arm, multiple cracked ribs, and a bruised lung later; Abigail was saved only by the intervention of Lady Duroc. Even with that, most accounts say Abigail got off lightly… at least, so far.

Charles Tenkiller, dressed in his CCDA uniform, took a deep breath and walked up to the gate as the slider moved away. Four guards stepped forward, all with disruptor rifles. One looked down at Tenkiller and simply spit on his shoe. Tenkiller looked down and just nodded slightly. “I am here to answer the summons of Lord Duroc.” Two of the four guards searched him, scanned him, searched him again; ‘accidentally’ tearing his sleeve and a chest pocket in the process. Tenkiller took the humiliation in stride, he had expected as much. Finally the gate opened and he was escorted to the wide, black steps that led up to the imposing House Duroc Embassy. Standing at the top was the largest Klingon he had ever seen; and although he had met the figure on many occasions, they somehow seemed much larger. Tenkiller looked up and said simply “Lord Duroc.” and he inclined his head.

Tenkiller

Urg’tohn glared down at the man. “You leave my name off your lips, human.” he growled. “You do not get the honor of speaking my name… or that of House Duroc.” He bared his teeth at Tenkiller and then slowly walked down the steps to stand in front of the earthen-hued skinned human. A low growl rumbled deep inside Urg’s chest. “I thought better of you, Major General. I considered you an ally… if not a friend. And THIS?!?!?!?” he bellowed, “THIS is how you and yours repay that level of honor?! Your House attacks mine, UNPROVOKED, and you stand there and have the sheer ARROGANCE to speak my name?!” Urg’s hands balled into fists and his breathing became fast and shallow as he bent down to put his face directly in front of Tenkiller’s. “You insult me by speaking my name, you piece of garbage.”

Lord Duroc

Jal’na, Lady Duroc, appeared out of nowhere. She was not stupid enough to step between them, but her presence was quite close enough to be a hindrance. She was dressed un scrubs, but clean of all orange paint and pink blood and her face as flawless as ever. “Major General Tenkiller. I know you to be an honorable man, a solid ally, and boon to all on Oed. I am not ready to label you and your whole house dishonorable for the actions of one. You will remain under my good graces.” She glanced at Urg knowing that would irritate him then she looked back at Tenkiller, “Until I have heard your explanation. Then we shall see if you remain so.”

Jal’na, Lady Duroc

Urg’s head whipped around at the sound of her voice and he stood up straight and walked over to her, placing his hands on her shoulders and gazing intensely at her; his eyes searching for even the slightest sign of the incident. “My life… why are you not at the hospital? And where are your guards?! I will not allow another attack on you.” and he lowered his head and placed his ridges gently against hers. “I am sorry. I should have been faster…”

Urg, Lord Duroc

Jal’na cupped his elbows in her hands and pressed her ridges up into his. “Dr. Fayth examined and checked me herself. I am fine, I promise.” She made a soft sound in her throat. “You acted just fine. I would hardly call a paint can a dangerous weapon. I have had worse injuries in much more pleasurable activities.” She smiled sharp teeth at him. “I am well, Husband. Now let us ensure the acts of a fool do not ruin the foundation you have built here.”

Jal’na, Lady Duroc

Tenkiller remained silent and still throughout the exchange between Jal’na and Urg. He was truly happy that Lady Duroc was not injured. She was a good doctor and she and Sharah and Yavia were close. To think that Abby’s actions threatened that closeness made his jaw clench.

As the Two Klingons released each other, Tenkiller looked directly at Jal’na. “Lady Duroc, I have no explanation for the actions of my sister. Nor do I defend what she did. I will not insult you or Lord Duroc further by asking that you show her mercy. What she did was inexcusable. And it was based wholly in her twisted belief of some kind of racial or tribal purity.” He sighed heavily, obviously feeling the shame that comes when one cares for someone who so obviously is in the wrong. “My relationship with my partners caused her to run off. I had her monitored, for her own safety. But that was done remotely, otherwise my staff would absolutely have prevented what happened to you, Lady Duroc. I am sorry for what happened.” He then locked eyes with Urg, not flinching or blinking.

Jal’na nodded once, but did not interrupt.

“Lord Duroc, my family did not insult your House. My sister did. My family does not harbor such… dishonorable beliefs. I would hope my past actions and the working relationship you and I have created would show you that. That being said, I do know an insult was given to your House. As it was my family, my blood, that was responsible… I will accept any ramification of my sister’s actions myself. I do not do this to keep her from being punished. I do this to show you that I take this seriously. That I know and accept your right to address the dishonor done to you and Lady Duroc. And that I wish to have this settled here… now… before it complicates or discolors your relationship with this colony you have so staunchly protected. I would rather you take your pound of flesh form me so that you can continue to aid the residents of Oed V; instead of this becoming a breaking point from which we cannot come back from.” He then looked directly at Jal’na. “Know this. Sharah and Yavia love you. This isn’t about that, nor has anything changed there. And nothing will change there, regardless of what Lord Duroc does here. Please… don’t let them fall away from you because of my sister’s actions.” He looked back at Urg. “I am here. Lord Duroc. Do what you must.”

Tenkiller

Jal’na smiled, “I love them deeply as well, and nothing would change that. I trust in their judgement, and I know if you harbored such dishonorable views you would not be graced with their love. However,” she would just as soon move on, but she couldn’t. She was no longer anonymous. “A grave insult has been given. So, you will bring the rest of your family here, and eat with us. We shall share tales and take the measure of the Tenkiller Honor. We will see if your family is honorable, or if Lord Duroc will demand his pound of flesh.”

Urg stared at his wife for a moment, and then shrugged. He looked at Tenkiller and said “I was just going to cut your heart out and feed it to the targs… but okay.” Whether he was kidding or not was not at all obvious.

“As for your sister. The insult was given to me, and I will demand due justice. It happened on Oed soil, on a Federation planet, and I will demonstrate the faith House Duroc has in our alliance and press charges according to Oed laws.” She crossed her arms over her chest and met his gaze, “Your sister will be in the hospital for some time and she will need extensive physical therapy. I will not allow anyone else on my staff to be abused by her bigotry. I look forward to her re-education.”

Jal’na, Lady Duroc

Urg, Lord Duroc

Tenkiller looked at Lord and Lady Jal’na and then bowed deeply. Standing up straight, he said “I accept your conditions on behalf of myself and my family. We stand ready to attend the meal with you whenever you deem it. Again… I am sorry. If I had the ability to change the past, know that I absolutely would.” and he bowed his head.

Tenkiller

Urg growled, but nodded once. He then waved the guards forward and said “Remove him from the grounds. He is not to be allowed back until Lady Jal’na says so.” The guards not so graciously took Tenkiller and moved him away and back towards the gates. Once they were out of earshot, Urg looked at Jal’na. “Do you think it wise, brining the entirety of that blood into our home?”

Urg, Lord Duroc

Jal’na raised a brow. “I know it is an excellent idea. We both know Charles Tenkiller is an honorable man. And brave,” he came weaponless and alone and faced Urg’s wrath. “It will be him, my friends, Sharah and Yavia, his parents and one sister. The other will be hospitalized for awhile and then in jail. So 6 people in our House with our guards and You.” She began walking up the steps, “And with this act we will solidify the honor that House Duroc’s foundation is built upon. That we see each person for their own worth, honor, and value, no matter what those around them may do.” She turned and gave him a wicked grin, “And should they be so stupid as to prove dishonorable, they will be here on sovereign Klingon soil, and we can do as we wish.”
