Kristina was still shocked that she was even considered for such a high profile internship. She sort of thought her association with her half-sister’s planet, even briefly might have made her less of a candidate, but apparently she was still in the mix. She had a 10:00 appointment and arrived at the Tower twenty minutes early, knowing the security checkpoints could be busy a lot of the time. She checked in with Reception and was given a temporary visitor’s pass with clearance to Level 47: the Chief of Staff’s level. She gave the woman a smile and moved through security, clearing quicker than she expected. Ten minutes to spare.

Stepping out of the lift, Cosgrove hoped she was dressed professionally enough with her wide legged tan trousers and a loose raspberry blouse with long sleeves and a fitted tank underneath. She wore modest heels in a dark red, and her brown hair hung in soft waves past her shoulders. She looked around and spotted the reception desk that was the gateway to all the other offices for the Communications department. And with any luck, maybe even a space for her too.

Shifting a sleek black bag on her shoulder she approached the desk and waited till the person was obviously available and she had their attention. “Hello, I’m Kristina Cosgrove. I have an appointment with Ms. Caputo.”

Ana’s assistant Arin checked the day’s schedule. “Ah. Here you are.” He reached for an intercom button. =Ma’am, your next appointment is here. A Kristina Cosgrove.= There was a long pause. =Send her back.=

She would find the door to Ana’s office already open, though Ana herself was buried in work. Without looking up, she said “Come in, Miss Cosgrove. Would you like some tea or coffee?”

“Uh, coffee would be great actually, thank you,” she said as she approached the desk. Kristina figured if there was an offer of a hot drink, that there would be time to drink at least some of it, so she might as well make herself at ease here.

Cosgrove took a measured breath and forced herself to relax. Was she nervous? A little, yes. But that was okay. That told her that she really wanted this and it meant something to her. “Before we get started I just wanted to thank you for meeting with me. I’m honoured to be even considered for the position.” Yes it was an internship, but a higher profile one, and one a lot of people probably wanted.
