Calm (Markets) Before the Potential Storm

Eela grinned and nudged Sharah with her elbow. “Hey, I only know the process. It’s not like I’ve actually done it before. But that’s half the fun about experimenting. All I know is that I’m going to dry things and grind them up, mix them with a binder and something for flow, dry them in little pans and hope for the best. It’s not unlike making recipes from my father’s book, except I don’t know enough about his ingredients to meddle with swapping stuff out.” This was the part of Saturday mornings that she loved. The wandering, the chatting, the relaxed energy of the market. It was a much needed balm before this evening.

She picked four of the Matruscan lemons and some blood oranges and paid for them. “They may not make a the best paint, but they make fantastic deserts,” Eela said with gleam in her eyes.

“Well I can certainly understand the joy in experimentation, and I am always up for desert.” Sharah grinned and turned, “Speaking of which.” She scanned the market looking, “AH! Over there.” Sharah made her way over to a table that contained a wide range of baked goods, from breads to pastries, to personal pies. The woman behind the table grinned and offered up several different samples on two plates and passed them to the ladies. “The jams actually come from the high school students, and the cheeses from Lars’ Dairy.”

Eel picked up one of the little pastry bites and popped it into her mouth. The layers shattered beautifully in her mouth. “Goodness. I think I know what lunch is going to be,” Dasca said with delight.

“Now, Dr Fayth,” the man pulled three boxes and a bottle shaped bag from below his table. “That surprise you asked me for. I think you will find this,” he tapped the tall narrow bag as he placed it into a basket for her, “goes very well with all three.” Sharah grinned, “Thank you, Karl, I know it will be exquisite. How is your brother?”

The baker chuckled, “I gave him the tea like you said, not only does he like it, but he has more energy. He’s even kneading the bread again.” Sharah grinned, “Good. Now don’t let him slack off anymore.”

Eela grinned at the exchange. “I’ll take some of the cheeses and whatever bread you think would go well as a sandwich,” she said to the baker. Lunch was going to be lovely when she added fresh herbs and greens from her garden.

“Special plans?” she asked.
