Eddie smiled and nodded. “There are things you can say, and things you can’t. I get it. If you don’t object, let’s get started.” He pressed record.

“Hello there everyone, to the first and already a special edition of ‘Out of the Dome’. That’s right, we came up with the title before the dome was opened, but I think it still works. Here with me today is none other than our Lieutenant Governor, Eela Dasca. Welcome to the show.”

“Thank you for having me,” she said. “I’m honoured to be your first guest. I’ve never done anything quite like this but I think it’ll be a really interesting experience.”

“I certainly hope so.” Eddie said with a coy smile. “Now. You’ve been Lieutenant Governor for, certainly longer than it seems, but how long exactly?”

“About four months now. Though you’re right, it feels a lot longer,” she said with a chuckle. “I’m not sure if it’s being in on place for a longer duration or the job itself, but I definitely lose my sense of time.” Eela folded her arms on the table, her demeanour relaxed.

“I’ve heard that before, from people in politics. It’s hard to tell a Tuesday from a Saturday without checking because every day is some degree of workday.” Eddie matched her relaxed behavior. “Do you think you and the Governor make a good team?”

“I do,” Eela said with a smile that translated through her voice. “On the surface it might seem that both the Governor and I are unusual choices for our roles, and perhaps we are, but I think that’s what makes us rather effective. We both have had a variety of experiences and we bring that to the table every day.”

She paused, thinking through the rest of her response. “When I arrived, it was during the protest following the events surrounding the attack on Harris and Holloway’s shuttle. So I got to see first hand how the Governor handled an intense situation like that, which is not something you always get to have. And during our first meeting we were very open and honest about our expectations and the issues that Oed was dealing with. A couple days later he got to see how I handled a potential crisis on my end and so very quickly we were able to understand how the other operated. And I can tell you from experience that being able to figure that out quickly is rare and not easy. I attribute that to our ability to be bluntly honest wth each other and listen. We don’t always agree, but we do factor in the other person’s perspective. And that allows us to be a team, not just a leader and the person next-in-line supporting them.”

Eddie nodded thoughtfully. He liked the Lieutenant Governor. Unlike a lot of political figures she gave something resembling an answer when asked a question. “Politically, the Lieutenant Governor is often seen as a figurehead, someone who exists to look good and wait to inherit the big job. If you and Governor Hyrushi make such a strong team, how does that change your role and how does Starfleet figure into that?”
