Eela smiled, her hazel eyes tracking the Hekaran’s movements. “It’s been a true adventure so far,” she said sincerely. It was tempted to suss out the woman’s own sincerity but again, she trusted Kenzo.

“We have a situation that requires a third party to provide verification of information we have been told. Information we will be sharing with the colony in short order and that we know everyone will question. We’re hoping you might be that person to go and seek out that verification for the safety of Oed,” Eela said, turning her gaze on Kenzo to say the rest. The actual ask should come from him, and he also would know better than her how to broach the topic of the Vren with Hal.

He looked at Sindra and said “The Vren, Sindra. They are in danger and asking for Federation help. And the Federation has tentively agreed. Federation Ambassador Mathis is here for the formal joining of diplomatic ties with the Vren.” and he held up a hand as Sindra’s mouth opened. “No, they are not asking for membership. Just formal diplomatic relations. I’m sure you of all people know the significance of this… and what it could mean for the colony if we manage to pull it off.”

Sindra was quiet for a long time. She looked back and forth between the two leaders; and the waves of concern, anxiety, fear… and oddly enough excitement… were palpable. Finally she spoke. In measured and deliberate tones she said “This is unprecedented in Oed history, I hope you both know this. The Fedration asking us for help is one thing. The Vren talking is another. But both at the same time?! That’s… well… that is certainly something.” She stood and began to pace back and forth. Kenzo set a hand on Eela’s under the desk and a sense of calm wafted over her. This is going well. it said to her.

The subtle gesture not only was not lost on Eela but she also felt it was a part of this continued demarcation of her time on Oed. She was no longer ‘new’ and she had a place here.

“Alright. First, I want to thank you both for telling me this.” Sindra said.”Kenzo, darling, you are as shrewd as you are beautiful. You knew I couldn’t turn this down.” Kenzo gifted Sindra with rare and genuine smile and said “I merely thought that you would be the most acceptable neutral party to give the people peace of mind.” She stopped pacing for an moment and smiled at him. “You are full of shit, as the humans say. I’m surprised your eyes are not brown.” and she laughed. “Ok. I am in.” and she flopped down in the chair. “What do you need from me?” she asked directly. Kenzo smiled and looked at Eela. “Captain Dasca, would you care to tell Lady Hal our tboughts on how to move forward?”

Hyrushi, Gov.

Eela inclined her head. “The Vren are experiencing an ecological disaster on their world that they currently cannot survive. When the Governor and Ambassador Mathis make their statement to the people, we know there will be questions about this and whether it’s a ruse. Our feeling is that if we could provide verification from an acceptable source, that even if it doesn’t soothe everyone the majority will at least know that it’s not some lie we’re being sold, that the need is genuine. If we send a CCDA or Starfleet vessel, there will a contingent on the colony that objects, deepening the divide we’ve been trying so hard to repair. Thus our need for some sort of neutral third-party. Our thought thus far is that you could take your ship there, and with permission from the Vren, send a probe into the system to confirm the situation. The idea is not to provoke them, but also if their need is genuine they will allow us at least some access. We can’t ask our people to take risks if theirs will not in turn.”

Sindra said “That is… actually a very sound idea. And yes, absolutely. I can send the Vl’en’tral whenever you like. I will even go a step further and take her out myself. I don’t want to leave anything here to chance. You get me the probe and get a comm relay set up… I’ll get you your feed. But I do want written permission form the Vren to be there first. I don’t relish the idea of being that far into their territory and someone didn’t get the memo.”

Kenzo nodded and looked at Eela. “Star Fleet can get the infrastructure in place for the relay faster than the CCDA. Can you make those arraignments?” he asked.

Hyrushi, Governor

Dasca nodded. “Easily done.” Out of all the arrangements this situation required, this was by far the simplest piece of it and she was glad that not everything would require multiple steps. In this case, her status as Commander-in-Chief gave her all the power she needed to have this set-up and done in quick order.

“And thank you for agreeing to do this,” Eela said to Sindra. “We do recognize how tenuous a situation this is and we’re doing our best to anticipate issues before they arise. We won’t catch everything, but if we can ease the majority of the fears people have I think it will lead to better negotiations.” They needed everyone negotiating in good faith.

Sindra waved her off. “No thanks needed. If this is real- and I doubt you two would be calling me for this if you didn’t have every reason to believe it to be so- then I am happy to help. This will do the colony a great deal of good, I think.” and she stood. “I’ll go get the ship ready. Captain, when you have it ready, deliver the probe. And get me that written permission. I’m not leaving without it. Deal?” Hyrushi stood and bowed deeply to the woman. “You will it before you leave. And thank you. You are helping us more than you know.” and he stood up straight.

“Well, I have an idea.” and she laughed. She held out a hand to the Lieutenant Governor and said “When I get back, we should have dinner. Just us girls. We can talk about him behind his back.” with a jerk of her head towards Kenzo.

Hyrushi, Governor

Eela let out a full laugh. “I’m always interested in different perspectives,” she said, shaking Sindra’s hand and giving a subtle wink to Kenzo. In that touch (an invitation as far as Eela was concerned), she felt sincerity within Hal, though it was downplayed from the excitement, fear and hope. She liked this woman and her emotions mirrored her own right now.

“Good luck Ms. Hal. We’ll talk after you’re back,” Dasca said.

Sindra waved and turned and left. When the doors closed, Kenzo sat and said “We need to call Mathis right now. She has to get that permission from Ambassador Kek as soon as possible.” He tapped the comms and said “Ms. Fen. Get me Ambassador Mathis on the comms immediately.” “Yes, Governor.” was the only reply and less than a minute later the comms connected.

Hyrushi, Governor

Still working after she had sent the draft statement and setting about trying to get her office in order, Jeanette barely blinked when the summons came through. She settled at her desk as the call started.

Arms folded across the desk, she took in both Hyrushi and Dasca’s presence. “Good evening to you both. I received your changes and have no objections. They make perfect sense, she said though her intuition said they are calling about something else.

~Ambassador Mathis

“Ambassador, we have had an idea.” Kenzo began. “You know as well as we that when we announce this, there is going to be a significant amount of opposition. Thus our emphasis on the relief effort and need for Oed to be a helping hand rather than a closed fist. That being said, many people will choose not to believe this… or at least demand proof. Captain Dasca and I have hit upon the idea of sending an Oed vessel, civilian not affiliated with the government, into Vren space equipped with a science probe that can relay live images back to the colony so they can see for themselves that the threat is real. We have also enlisted the help of one of Oed’s more prominent and trusted citizens to assist. Sindra Hal has agreed to take her ship and the probe into Vren space and relay the message. The people trust her. I trust her as well. All she asks is that we secure written permission from the Vren before she departs. She is prepping her ship now. Do you think it is possible to contact Ambassador Kek and see if the Vren will allow this?”

Hyrushi, Governor

While normally Jeanette would prefer to have something like this run past her first, these were unusual circumstances and she was unusually the odd one out in this grouping. That would change as days went on but for the time being she understood that she was here mainly as a support.

The idea itself had a great deal of logic and so she nodded. “If this Sindra Hal has your trust and the people will accept her input then I agree that the verification makes a great deal of sense. I can’t see Kek objecting either. Not only have they had Federation ships in proximity to the system, and been sharing their data with them, Kek himself is by all accounts eager to ease people’s concerns. I’ll reach out immediately but I don’t foresee an issue.”
