She nodded, inhaling deeply. It sounded perfectly reasonable and seemed less daunting than standing there waiting for a bid that might or might not come. How embarrassing would that be? It still would be mortifying but at least it would be less… flashy. “That sounds reasonable.” Eela shook her head and smirked. “I can’t believe I’m doing this she said, before letting out a laugh. “Oh Gods, Alice, I knew I was going to have to jump back into social situations again sooner rather than later, but this is not at all what I thought it would be.”

Shrine smiled. She could understand how daunting this could seem after 40 years of marriage. She would, if Dasca asked, let her off the hook and find another way for her to contribute. However, she wouldn’t offer. A ling career of working and caring for people told her that the Lt Gov needed this - for herself and not for her job, “Well, it is certainly a unique way to dive in. And perhaps actually much easier. It takes a lot of the uncertainty out of it. The only mystery is ‘who’ and that is the grandest mystery if all, is it not? Who we might meet and what connection we may or may not make.”

Shrine

A tingle swept over her spine and Eela understood it for what it was: anticipation. Her heart thudded a little and she grinned. “My favourite kind of experiment,” she said, remembering how true it used to be and how it could be again. Shrine didn’t know about Eela’s non-monogamous way of being, so that meeting new people was normally a common thing, but after her accident everything shifted. She was navigating these old desires with a new reality, and that wasn’t even factoring her role on Oed.

“Is there anything else you need me to do before Saturday?” Dasca asked.

Alice looked at her notes, “Just the date and time of the event you have chosen. Other than that, just show up and have fun.”

Shrine

While Eela joked about not knowing her schedule on a day-to-day basis, she did know more of it than it sometimes seemed. “A week from Saturday at the Chrysalis Theatre. Doors open for pre-event mingling at 1900 hours. I was planning to go for at least a little of that.”

Shrine made note of the details and then stood. “Thank you, Lt Gov. I know you are busy, so I won’t keep you. If you have questions or need anything from me just call the hospital.” She offered her hand with a knowing grin. “This will be amazing.”

Rising as well, Eela shook the nurse’s hand. “I think so too and it’s for a great cause, so I’m happy to be a part of it. Have a good rest of your day,” she said, knowing full well she herself was going to be sitting her ass back down at her desk and finishing off that pile of work Cort needed from her. That was the trade-off. She could take bits of her day here and there for personal things but the work still needed doing.
