The Federation Ambassador wanted to interject something about the Federation being accustomed to working with peoples they had previous been in conflict with, but usually in those instances there had been a rather large change of heart. Ambassador Kek couldn’t guarantee that here. It wasn’t like with the Cardassians who switched sides, and she didn’t even want to think about using the Romulans as an example. That had blown up in all their faces and was still a complicated and tenuous situation. Ambassador Kek would need to earn some good will from Oed before much could proceed.

Mathis simply nodded in agreement. This wasn’t her show, she was just the facilitator.

Hyrushi was stoic in his reaction, but said =/\= Indeed, Ambassador. We could arrange, if it is allowed by your people, to broadcast the ceremony all across Oed. Perhaps if you and your people could create a cultural overview of the ceremony… its meanings, history, symbolism… we could present that prior to the ceremony so that the citizens would know what they are watching and have a better chance to grasp its meaning. =/\=

Mathis nodded. =/\=I will make the arrangements on our end, and we’ll go from there,=/\= she said, hoping the initial overtures went over well with the people of Oed. It was hard to know how people would react, but Hyrushi and Dasca seemed to have that side well in hand.

Already, Eela’s mind was running through possibilities. She had been in enough similar situations to know how they might go, to be able to anticipate the issues. She tamped down on her expression as Mathis’ earlier reference came to mind and she knew it was something they’d have to address immediately after Kek signed off the call. But for the moment she had nothing else to add.

Kek smiled again and nodded slightly. =/\= Very god. Very good yes. I will starts preparationing soonest I can. And I will transmits file as soons as Senate votes. Will be today. Hyrushi was silent a moment and then said =/\= Ambassador Mathis, I do hope you appreciate the potentially explosive situation you are putting Lieutenant Governor Dasca and myself in. The Vren have no good reputation to build on here. In fact, they have just the opposite. All negative. And we now have three days- less than, actually- to open the minds and hearts of millions of people. People who have absolutely no reason to accept this gesture; sincere as it may be. Oed should have been notified of contact when it first happened, Madame Ambassador Surely the Diplomatoc Corps would have been preparing for this possibility when the Vren first made the request for assistance? =/\= Kenzo was furious, but to his credit it didn’t show at all. But a text message appeared on Dasca’s terminal that said simply “After the call, please come directly to my apartment.”

=/\=I understand your frustration, but there are a lot of moving pieces in all of this and we had no way to know how sincere they were. I wasn’t there for first contact and I was only just read into the situation when I was asked to go to Black Rock a few days ago.=/\= Mathis sighed. =/\=Could I have called you then? Yes, I admit that perhaps I should have. But I didn’t not expect this to progress so quickly as it did in this meeting. In my mind we would have weeks, not days to prepare. So you have my apologies, Governor, but please let’s be clear that no one is orchestrating anything to fail here. We want a good outcome for all of this, for both the Vren, and for Oed and the Federation. I was given instructions for how to proceed initially but I will have wide latitude for how I proceed from here on out.=/\= She would absolutely take responsibility for the things that were actually her fault, but it was all a complicated chain of events and there were other people higher up i the decision making process. It was very much a ‘Don’t Shoot the Messenger’ sort of situation even if she understood and agreed with their concerns.
