“As do I,” she said sincerely, bring her cup to her lips. For a moment she just savoured the sip before she set it down again and focused on the man before her.

“Obviously, I have information provided to me, and I intend to keep on the staff attached to the Office of Lieutenant Governor, unless there is a particular reason not to, but the next few days are going to be crucial. So, a couple things. First, how do you want to announce my appointment, and are there any reputable news outlets the cabinet prefers over others and why?”

Hyrushi shook his head slightly and said “We do not favor any one or few outlets. We release all statements via the colonial comm network and to all reporting agencies simultaneously. We do not conduct exclusive interviews, but we are lacking in a Press Secretary, so that means time devoted regularly to press conferences. I have looked for an acceptable candidate, but as of yet I have had little progress in that arena. As for your announcement, I was planning a press co feremce for this evening to address the protest issue. Would you be willing to be present? We can introduce you publicly then.”

Eela nodded. “I can be there. Just tell me where and when.” The press corps situation didn’t surprise her, but she asked specifically to make sure she understood the set-up. No use stepping on toes before she was even settled. She had had an idea about a way for people to get to know her, but based on his statements that would be a no-go. It seemed like public engagements were going to be the way to go.

She exhaled a breath that held the weight of the myriad of tasks and appointments that were building up in her mind. “Well, unless there is anything else you want to go over right now, I should go find my office, meet and staff and find my way around this place. It’ll be a couple days before I’ve settled on accommodations, but once I do, I’d like to invite you for dinner. It’s been awhile since I got to cook for anyone and it would give us a chance to chat some more outside of meetings. You interested?”

“Indeed I would. Thank you. So you are aware, there is an apartment a block away held for the Lt. Governor. You are not required to take it, of course. But it is nice and has Star Fleet security details already present.” Hyrushi offered. Your office is one level below, the opposite side of the building from this one. There is also a concealed staircase in each refresher connecting the two offices accessible only by you and I. A throwback to some previous assassination attempts, I am guessing. I found it completely by accident, actually. As of now, only the two of us know it is there.” and he smiled slightly. “I never had a chance to share the information with your predecessors.”

She didn’t know why but that made her grin. It felt like something of approval from him, and also like she had passed more hurdles than the others and she had only been here a whole half and hour. “Good to know,” she said, feeling it applied across the board.

Rising to her feet and slightly irritated that it was harder than it should have been, Dasca considered Hyrushi for a moment before bowing her head graciously to him. “Thank you for your time. I’m sure I’ll have plenty more questions.”

Hyrushi stood and bowed to her. “I hope that I can be of help to you in answering those.”

As she stepped away, Eela turned back and flashed him a grin. “I’m a woman of action generally and I like information before acting. But I also trust my instincts and I have a really good feeling about this, Kenzo.”

Hyrushi didn’t move, but said “You may consider me cautiously optimistic. Which is far more than I can say for the previous holders of the office. I look forward to working with you, Lieutenant Governor Dasca.”
