Is Anyone Keeping Score? (Tag Hyrushi)

Posted by Civilian Eryn Romanov (Colonial Intelligence Agent) in Is Anyone Keeping Score?
WORK! Eryn could barely contain her eagerness to get out of the safe house. Their excursion to buy property had been lucrative, but there was time between now and moving in. Right now her work was more of an information pay off than monetary, but that was okay. It was a good way to get her ‘sea legs’ back and to learn more about her new home.

The first day she left early. Vonn didn’t need to tell her to be cautious, but the indecipherable look coming from that sickly green visor told her he wouldn’t snatch her butt out of the fire if she did something stupid. She gave him an irreverent two finger salute and slipped out the door, weapons and a few fun toys hidden on her person.

She spent the early dark hours before the colony really woke up travelling the streets getting a feel for the layout, short cuts, sounds, smells, and sights. Oed had a rather impressive library and she spent many hours there learning about the history of the colony and more importantly learning about the residents of note in the colony. Slipping the WTR-600 while she read she was able to take images of the information. The Orion one she’d asked for would have worked very similarly to the sensors in Vonn’s gloves and downloaded the files covertly for her, but this worked just as well, for the moment.

Eryn was careful to spend the same amount of time learning about each person listed and not searching those she was interested in first or last.

Over the next several days, Eryn was out around the colony, sometimes alone, sometimes tailed, and sometimes with her ‘bodyguard’ (that never failed to make her laugh). Sometimes it was for coffee, sometimes trying new eating establishments, shopping, or simply wandering and seeing the sights. She even made a stop by the government administrative tower to double check a permit for the home she had purchased.

She arrived early at the tower, to beat the crowds. Vonn, still posing as her bodyguard, had handled most of the permits remotely. But this one Eryn was going to handle herself, in person. She didn’t really need to, but it was a legitimate excuse to be in the building and then ‘get lost.’ Eryn rode the lift up and then back down stepping off at just the right time. She stopped by the directory and shook her head and headed back to the lift. Just in time to run into a very efficient but not quite suspicious enough administrative assistant to the Governor.

“Excuse me. I vas trying to find zhe building permit office. I seem to have gotten turned around.” Eryn tucked a stray white blonde strand of hair behind her ear and a self-conscious gesture.

“First time to the tower? It can be a bit overwhelming. I’d be happy to show you.” The woman carried a coffee from the shop across the street, was dressed in a very crisp pencil skirt suit, and carried a PaDD. Apparently she’d been studying it and working during her commute because it was open to the calendar and a few careful glances allowed Eryn to know that the secretary came in around 0700 every morning. Nothing about the governor’s schedule, which showed some caution on the woman’s part. She wished she had some idea of what his schedule was, but other than public appearances, she had to work with what she could get. “Zhank you. I have only recently moved here and I vant to make sure zhat zhe specifications for zhe ventilation are correct. I vork with metals and sometimes zhey set off fumes.”

The woman looked at her curiously. “Are you joining our construction teams? Or a member of Holloway Heavy?” She couldn’t think of anyone else who might be working with different metal compositions.

Eryn shook her head, “No, I create metal sculptures.” The woman perked up at that, “Oh that’s lovely. It’s nice to see that Oed is attracting more than just commodity traders. If you need anything don’t hesitate to ask. The Governor is very supportive of the residents. Ah here’s our floor,” she stepped out and led Eryn down the corridor to the left and through a set of double doors and introduced her to the clerk on the other side of the counter and then left her there.

Two days later, Eryn slipped quietly through the door of the governor’s office. She probably had about 30 minutes before anyone arrived. Eryn was dressed in loose flowing black dress pants, almost like martial arts pants except for the quality of the fabric, and a peach colored blouse. She was unarmed but still dangerous. She carefully checked the room to ensure she avoided any security measures, not touching anything - that would be rude, and then took a seat and waited for the governor to arrive. And kept an ear out in case the secretary decided to enter. There was a nice little shadowed corner she could wait in if needs be.
