Halai reached and set her hand in his, once again feeling her korsiolo flare. She was thoughtful, letting her thoughts come to her mind without rushing before replying. “Anxious, worried, excited, tired, sad, lonely,” she said honestly. She was all that and more and this trip was not only going to settle something but as she well knew it would also be the beginning of other things.

Akem led her to the chair. “So many feeling all at once.” he said pointedly. Akem gestured to the chair for her to have a seat while he spoke. “Let’s start with anxious. Shall I assume its because of where we are going?” he inquired thoughtfully, the only other sounds in his quarters being the flow of the waterfall in the corner of the room, the lights dimmed low.

Halai settled into the chair and gazed up at him while she mulled over the answer to his question. “Much of it, yes. Events are about to take place that may very well change my entire life. There’s something… strangely predetermined about it all, as if I’m just following through on something that others are well aware of but I’m only beginning to see to understand. And it involves my half-sister, which is complicated enough on its own.”

As she sat down, the chair molded to the contours of her body as arms raised to meet her own. Akem knelt on his knees as his hands and face were brought level with her hands. He gingerly reached for one and lightly massaged the palm of it, feeling out the stresses at first before applying much pressure. “Why is that so complicated, if you don’t mind my asking?” he inquired gently.

It wasn’t anything she wasn’t sharing with everyone already, so Halai didn’t hesitate to speak, though she seemed to take her time to find to her words. “Because though she was taken against her will, Kristina seems to be there now of her own volition. Which makes no sense because I’m missing key information. But more than that, Kristina and I have a complicated history. We share a father, but I was conceived on Tyrellia while my father’s wife and children were elsewhere. It was, in Human terms, an affair. Kristina and I are slowly building a relationship that our parents made nearly impossible but as adults we get to choose how it is shaped. Most of the time, anyway. My step-mother does not make it easy, ever.”

Akem moved his minute massaging from one of her hands to the other. “I can see why it might make you feel that way. The unknowns are never easy to contend with before finally being made known.”

He then took both of his hands and rubbed his palms up her arms as he indicated to grip the chair’s arms lightly. “Am I too assume those very same unknowns are keeping you worried and somehow excited?” he asked curiously, his eyes meeting her every now and then. He allowed his mental ease to trickle into his hands’ ministrations.
