Runa leaned in, voice low, but playful. “We ordered it so we have to pay for it, doesn’t mean we have to eat it. We can go somewhere else.” Anything to make time stop just a little longer. His words carried a chord of truth to it. Mike and Seamus didn’t stand for Revna and Ragna or sit back while they took care of themselves. They stood with each other. Runa was over the moon for them. Just like her Da and mom and Uncle Oddvar and Aunt Trine. She knew she wouldn’t settle for less. Her voice was very low and may or may not be heard over the noise of the pub. “Life is much richer when you have someone to walk beside.”Runa
Capall took a long, deep breath; eyes fixed on Runa for what seemed like an silent eternity. When he finally moved, it was slow. Deliberate. And his eyes never moved from hersbut they seemed to almost glow with an emerald fire, the flecks of gold in his eyes sparks from the fire. He slowly reached out, taking both of her hands, pulling her forward slightly as he leaned towards her. His lips near her ear, he whispered “Then I have never been more wealthy in all my days.” and his lips brushed her cheek and he rose to his feet and said “Come. Walk with me… kjærlighet.” and he began walking them out if the pub.
Capall
Okay so she’d only just met him but his eyes were amazing. The copper flecks in her own eyes flashed and ignited as she stared back at him. Her eyes fluttered closed as he kissed her cheek and there was that knowing but more clear and stronger, and Runa had no doubts. She had to talk to Mike! and Revna! She grabbed the capelet off the seat with one hand, the other still in his, and stood following them out. She blushed, smiling. “Jeg vil gå hvor som helst med deg.” When Capall looked at her with confusion she translated, “Rachainn a dh’àite sam bith còmhla riut. (I’d go anywhere with you.)”
Runa
Capall smiled and led them outside, turning and walking randomly off in a direction. “My head is spinning. I have no idea where we are going, but all I know is that right now, I don’t care. I just want to walk, with you, destination be damned.”
Capall
“The destination doesn’t matter…Capall…” Runa laced her fingers through his and strolled along with him. His head was spinning and her heart was racing, and she was right where she was supposed to be. She said a very silent prayer to the old man with the eye patch. They strolled along quietly for awhile, Runa didn’t feel the need to fill the space between them with chatter, that wasn’t like her anyway, but it was peaceful and comfortable. Then suddenly she stopped, stepping in front of him facing him, she didn’t say a word. Still holding his hand, the other resting against his chest, Runa kissed him. She poured all of herself into it because she wanted him to know she was serious about him.
Runa
Capall didn’t hesitate, just kissed her back immediately with all he was feeling. It was new, wonderful, exciting… and just exactly as it was supposed to be. He held the kiss for an eternity… or a few seconds. Who knew, really. But when they pulled apart, he looked at her and said “This is right.” and kissed her again, pulling her into him and hugging her to him so that her feet left the ground.
Capall
Runa wasn’t exactly inexperienced, but she had never been kissed like that. There was heat and attraction and passion, but there was rightness to it that moved her. And no one had ever held her like that. Like she was the most important thing, not just with desire, but gentleness. She kissed him back, her arms wrapping around him, holding him to her. When they finally pulled apart she turned her face into his neck, breathing him in. When she opened her eyes looking over his shoulder, there was the old man, at the end of the block, drinking his coffee and winked with his one good eye. She leaned back slightly in his arms and reached behind her neck and unclasped a cord and pulled it out from under her dress. “Here,” she clasped it behind his neck, the cord long more than long enough and then dropped the stone under his shirt, her palm flattening over it and his heart. “It’s the rune for Siff, my name sake, so I’ll always be right here, where I belong.”
Runa
Capall looked at her gently lowered her to the ground. His hand went to hers and held it on his heart. “You’ve been there long before now, Runa. You asked why I wrote you the letter? This is why. Because I knew… how I don’t know… but I knew that when I put pen to paper this is where I would be. And this is where I belong.”
Runa nodded, she didn’t have the words to explain it either. Then she smiled, they had set some kind of Edman record. How many hours ago had he given her that letter? Now back at the estate…well Revna had tried to call Runa’s comm several times, and they couldn’t find her…
Capall bent down and kissed her again; a deep, powerful kiss that seemed to pull him from his very core into her. As they kissed, a figure brushed past them. Capall’s eyes opened as he kissed Runa and he saw an old man in a dark suit stop by the window of a shop and place something on the sill. The old man turned, and an eye patch covered one eye. He smiled at Capall and then turned and walked around the corner and out of sight.
Capall broke their kiss, a confused look on his face. Taking her hand in his, he walked her to the corner and looked down the street.
Empty.
Glancing at the window sill was a tie pin… an ornate raven, with black diamonds in the body and ruby for the eye, set in silver. He looked at it and then at Runa. “That old man… he left this. I need to go give it back. Wait here.” and he stopped up the pin and started to walk away.
Capall
Runa smiled, she recognized it. But she nodded, “I won’t go anywhere.” She sat down against the window sill while Capall went in search of an old man that may or may not be waiting for him. She glanced up at the sky once he was out of sight, “Yeah yeah, you got me too,” and she was smiling.
