Oed V
Longstreets apartment
Longstreet did not drink. He could not drink as an alcoholic. That sordid secret was not actually a secret at all. It was just many people did not know about it. Unfortunately that habit had been taken up when his fiancé had died many years ago after he had been part of a very secret operation. That mission he was sent in with SF Intel to a terrorist base to capture terrorist. However it went wrong and Intel’s orders were much different than his. They were there to eliminate the terrorist, capture a few leaders if possible and eliminate sympathizers who sheltered them. Obviously a massacre happened and under pressure from the Secrecy Act and every one of his men agreeing to tell the same story as the Intel unit his voice in the matter was silenced. Except he had made a mistake. He had told his fiancé about it. More out of needing to talk to someone. She then decided to try and bring it all to light only to died accidentally while swimming. Lost her balance and hit her head was the official story. Longstreet knew Intel had something to do with it. However when he began to drink and cause a stir over it he was suddenly suspected of murdering her and covering it up. It was so bad, even with his record, that he went AWOL and deserted SF for many years. He worked on colony after colony all the while hiding his identity. Not that someone did not know where he was.
When Oed needed a COS his old CO called him and told him he could get him back in SF and a new assignment. Only if he cleaned up and dropped the whole thing from before. Staring at a bottle and guilt it took him six months to do that but he finally did. Intel got what they wanted and he got his life, what was left anyway, back. Thus started is lifelong distrust and hate for SF Intel and his career on Oed.
For all intents and purposes he was a shining success. He had adjusted to the faded memory of his loved one. He even understood that not all Intel officers were like the ones he dealt with the many years ago. However he never forgave the institution and probably never would. His new boss Xavier was a by the book but smart guy who gave Longstreet a long leash and that helped him a lot. Longstreet was never a by the book officer and at first he bent the rules a lot. However now he seemed to use them more for his favor and bent them less and less. He often wondered if the Captain had not seen that in the cards and played his hand to fit it.
