Astrid did not know what was going on but her empathic senses went haywire. She looked from person to person. It was as if she was on the outside looking in at something she shouldn’t. It made her acutely uncomfortable and she didn’t know what to do. There was tension between everyone around her.

The voice made Eviros turn abruptly to find Cosgrove there. She felt on edge and yet it was so tangible. For a moment she felt something strange from Halai that she’d never picked up before. She knew the woman was preceptive, but this was… more.

It was also a distraction. “Stay here,” she said softly to the group. “I just need to check on something.” Ylana backed away a couple steps, giving her husband a deep look. Trust me. I need to understand this better.

~Ylana Eviros, CSO

Ylana’s husband obviously had concerns now, but he kept them to himself for the moment. He was used to her curiosity. And he was there if it ever got the best of her. Hopefully, it wouldn’t.

He looked about taking in the looks of everyone else present. Assessing the situation with everyone was first and foremost before taking action.

With a nod to her husband, Ylana slipped away from the crowd to investigate.

Halai moved to stand with Michael, he focus intently fixed on the retreating form of her deputy head. “She’s powerful. More than I fully realized. More than she realizes, even.” Her tone was distanced, as if she were elsewhere. Then Halai blinked and seemed to come back to the present space. “She seems to have whatever it is well in hand though.”

~Halai Cosgrove

Michael looked to Ylana and then back to Halai. Had she sensed something Ylana couldn’t about herself? He took it in stride and gave a small grin.

“She certainly seems to,” he replied, ready for whatever might happen next.

Astrid wondered what was going on and watched the exchange with a little worry and a great deal of curiosity. Perhaps it was in her nature to want to know as much information as could be garnered for any situation, but she was silent. The last thing she needed to do was be unbearably rude by prying where she was obviously not in already.

Rousseau, HotJ

Halai had lost sight of Ylana as the other woman disappeared towards the front of the house. Whatever was happening was unsettling in the extreme and as she closed her eyes, she tried to clear her mind if it. But it would not disappear. She let out an exhale that sounded like she was suddenly out of breath and shook her head. Her korsiolo warned caution was needed and she knew better than to not head. She had to trust… for now. “it’s so strange,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper and with the rest of the party going on unlikely that anyone but Astrid and Michael would hear her. “It’s almost tangible, it’s so strong. Like I can wrap my hands around it as if I were shaping clay. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. Do you feel it too?” she asked Astrid. She knew the woman surely did, but the presence was not just that of someone psi-positive. Their wake of energy was powerful and so had been Ylana’s.

~Halai Cosgrove

Astrid nodded, hiding her discomfort well among the mixed company. She leaned towards Halai, reaching past her to more hors d’oeuvre to mask her speaking quietly. “It feels like oil on water.” She wrinkled her nose briefly. “It is nice to know I am not the only empath around. Even being half Betazoid is better than not being able to sense things. On more than one occasion it has saved my life.” She paused and looked toward the door. “Are you sure she is going to be alright?”

Rousseau, HotJ

Michael Halloway raised his good eyebrow. “Must be nice,” he said lowly. He was about to give her a few seconds before he went over to find out what was going on. He didn’t need to be an empath to get the general feeling that somethign wasn’t right.

-Governor Michael Halloway

“Oh, I’m not an empath,” Halai said distractedly. “It’s… complicated. Call it a special… intuition, if you will.” She looked back towards where Eviros had disappeared in. “Yes, I’m pretty sure of it. But I can’t exactly see the future.”

~Halai Cosgrove

Michael nodded, noting that in his mind for reference later, should he ever have need of her abilities as it were.

Just then, Ylana received a mental transmission of sorts.

The image of Morin’s face or the sound of his voice is what she would hear. If I had wanted to hurt people here, I would have done so without the disguise. Fascinating party. I had no idea Oed hid such monstrous creatures. Oh, and if you really would like to learn more about your ‘special’ gifts as it were, come find me. Or I’ll find you. No harm meant. You’re quite special here Ylana. And I’d rather you learn the extent of that. Think about it. We’ll talk soon.

Michael didn’t have psionic abilities, but he sensed something from Ylana. He allowed his mind to remain open to her, careful and warm. Is everything ok, Imzadi?

-Governor Michael Halloway

Imzadi, Leamas is here but just left. But there’s another being, possibly more powerful than him here. I don’t know if anyone is in danger yet, but be prepared to get people out on a moment’s notice, Ylana told him from elsewhere in the house.

~Ylana Eviros, CSO

A a couple moments later, Ylana’s voice sounded in his head. Michael, the being is gone. Stand down on the alert. At least on that front. She didn’t sound terribly impressed at all.

~Ylana Eviros, CSO

Michael was curious and puzzled all at once. But he maintained his composure. No need to share information on something he knew next to nothing about. Though the thought the strange being mentioned earlier had just been here was troubling him. Why was this being seeking out Ylana? Maybe it wasn’t? Maybe he was just jumping to conclusions? It was odd though, that the being had more than just one encounter with her. What was it after?

Xavier needed to know about it. This was in starfleet’s hands at the moment and this was certainly not a good chance thing.
