USS Merrimack
Day one...
Posted by Master Chief Petty Officer Robert Mooney (Medic) in Day one…
Mooney woke to the sound of birds insistently chirping and the slowly intensifying lights in his quarters. He grinned at the ceiling and laughed. His roommate must have programmed the alarms for that.Sting up, the pressure in his bladder made him reconsider his prosthetics and he hoped of the bed and made it to the head on his stumps. Once his morning absolutions were done he returned to the bed and grabbed the cream he was to use to control inflammation and after spoiling it he slid on the “sock” prior to installing his left forearm., he repeated the same procedure with both legs.
He quickly donned his PT gear and headed down to the gym. This morning’s work out would be light, seeing as he had worked out late yesterday.

After showering and changing to his duty uniform, Mooney presented himself to the mess deck, and tho he knew he could request anything on the menu, it was generally faster to simply take the days “special”. And honestly the cooks took some effort to make the resequenced proteins appealing. The Merrimack’s cooks did not disappoint, a rather impressive omelet, biscuits and gravy (a far cry from SOS) and an honest to goodness cinnamon roll. Despite the recipes being heavily fortified to meet the nutritional needs of the crew it was obvious the mess officer took pride in his work.
