Being assigned to a new ship was exciting, but the traveling time was sometimes more than a body could deal with. Such was the case for Elyss Zavey as she was beamed aboard the USS Merrimack from the shuttle which was the last step in her journey. When she appeared on the transporter pad with a duffle over her shoulder, the Lt manning the controls heard her sigh and recognized the exhaustion from years of arrivals just like hers.

“Not to worry, Lt Zavey. Usually, the first few days on board are spent getting acclimated to the ship, checking in with medical for an eval and meeting your department head. Other than that, you normally have a good bit of down time to catch up on whatever you need to catch up on.” His smile was friendly so she returned it.

“I just need a bit more sleep. For some reason, I couldn’t relax on the last shuttle, so I hope you’re right, a nap would feel good about now.”

She stepped down off the transporter and walked toward the officer. “Check in with the Quartermaster and they’ll set you up with quarters where you can leave your things while you learn the ship.”

Elyss nodded, “Thank you very much. I hope to see you around.”
