A red headed miner with a matching flame red beard looked her up and down then smiled slowly, “Well now, they do make some nice looking Starfleet officers, now don’t they? And who may you be, miss? Would you even know how to read them there logs?” He winked at her in a winning way.

Seeing the man Stella turned on the charm. One knee appeared to weaken as it went behind the other and she smiled a smile that made her look as sweet as sugar cane just pulled and peeled from the field. ” I thank you sir.” She replied. I always do try to look my best wherever I am. There’s no reason for a girl to let herself go you know.” She then extended her hand to the big redhead man and introduced herself. ” I’m Stella Gagnon Lieutenant Junior Grade Comms officer, late of Slidell Louisiana, Tammany Parrish. ”

She stopped then and thought for a moment about the engineering repair logs. For her purposes the things would be pretty easy. All she wanted to do was to note the downtime and see if there were regular intervals of some sort between the times and then go from there in her little investigation. Still though it would be better to involve the miners in what she was doing. She wouldn’t be so much like someone getting in the way or trying to tell someone what to do. ” Well sugar,” she replied, drawing out the word. ” I might be able to understand some of it but I don’t think it would hurt too much if I had a good looking professional like you around. ” What did you say your name was again”?

The miner looked askance at her hand for a moment before rubbing his right hand on his pant leg before shaking hers.
“John Stewart, Lead on second shift. Well, when there is one. What do I call you? Lieutenant Commander Gagnon?”

” Baaaah!” Stella said waving her hand at the man. “Please John just you call me Stella. I really don’t care for all that formality stuff. And it’s nothing as grand as commander anyway. She looped her arm around the miner’s arm and stepped closer to him then as she asked. ” So, John where might we find these maintenance logs? “

John looked askance at Stella for a moment, a bit non plussed. Then he cleared his throat and pointed toward the 2nd building where Lance was working. “They are in there.” He said briefly.

” Oh, I see him over there! Stella burst out as she recognized Lance. ” O hope I can help them somehow. Sitting around is something I just don’t care for!” She then reached up and gave John a little peck on the cheek and said to him. ” Thank you, John, you’re such a dear. You watch out and keep yourself safe now sugar!”

Stella stated to walk over toward the building closing the distance quickly with her long strides. All the way she could hear the crunch of stone beneath her. She wouldn’t be able to sneak up on a deaf man in these boots. At least they weren’t as uncomfortable as they looked. By the time she reached the other building she was glad to walk into the shade. ” Lance? Lieutenant Malone?”

Guy breathed a sigh of relief as he saw Stella walking back again unharmed. It looked like M’Mera wouldn’t be giving him the works just yet. He was tempted to say something more to Stella, but there was little point, these officers just did whatever they wanted to do. They expected Guy to give his life to protect their own, but they had no consideration about putting his in danger. He just hoped that the information she had been given by the miner with the read beard was worth the risk. She’d given him a kiss, so Guy thought that he must have told her something useful.

Ashley stopped for a little bit and walked over to Guy. Putting a hand on his shoulder. “Hey Guy. Is there something wrong?” She asked him. However, she was too busy working she didn’t know what Guy was thinking.

Guy replied to Ashley, “It seems to me like a redshirt’s duty is only to get killed. His death serves as a warning to the rest of the landing party; his sacrifice lets more valuable crew members and the Captain avoid danger. Everyone here thinks it’s a good idea to split up and to wander off on their own. Do they ever listen to me?”

She looked at Guy as she was taking apart a light generator, and she took a pause. “Guy, don’t let anything get to you. I understand that it’s something that you aren’t expecting. But.” She sighs. “We will get through this together, I promise.” She went back to the light generator and started to work on it.

“I hope everyone gets through too, ” replied Guy as he sat down on a chair near to where Ashley was working..

Guy wondered if the light generator wasn’t something that had worked before it was taken apart. They had been given a list of the things that worked and those that didn’t earlier. It seemed that internally powered machines worked but those that required a signal did not. Guy picked up a tool from the table. He was playing with it and read the inscription on it, Starfleet Mk. 3 Micro-Resonator. Danger Radiation. Warning. Can result in aggressive hickeys. Always use tools carefully. Guy didn’t know quite why, but he just had a good feeling about this tool. But what did he know, he was only a redshirt.

Ashley found that there was nothing wrong with the light generator as it had an internal power source, but as it was the main generator it did send signals (think blue tooth) to other smaller light generators which were of course not working as these small ones needed the signals to work themselves. The Larger light generator worked just fine though and there was nothing wrong with the nodes that sent power to other generators, they just did not send the required signals. It was obvious that the crew needed to find the source of whatever it was interrupting the signals.

“Guy. I know that we may just be red shirts. But we do have a purpose. Not dying. But we do have a job as starfleet officers. Never forget that. I know I may not be the captain. But we all care.” She said as she was putting the bigger generator back together as she started to work on the smaller light generators.

The smaller generators were also in good working order, just missing the power signal to turn them on

“Guy could you come and help me with all of this. Get the power signal to turn these smaller generators online and running?” She asked Guy.

Glen Guy walked over to her, still with the Micro Resonator in his hands, and his finger accidently still on the on switch.

“I’m no use with anything technological,” Guy told her. “I haven’t even worked out what all the buttons on the communicator are for yet, but that big lighting power generator thing there… isn’t sending power to this smaller one here… and they are all working as they should be… which would mean that something was interfering the communication between that and this???”

  • Guy, Sec

Stella who had tried to do a bit of anything and had failed miserably was at the moment trying to figure out how short she should cut her hair if they became stranded in this sort of humidity for much longer. Hearing Guy though. She could only pause in her musings. Finally, after she thought about just sitting down, she told Guy. ” Make a list. ABC. If it’s not thing A go to thing B and so on. Starting of course with A being the most obvious and then working your way to the most outrageous. “

Stella Gagnon Lt.jg

OOC: Stella aren’t you in the building? Or did you walk out again to talk to these guys? They are outside working on light generators:) You were headed into the building to talk to Lance and look at the maintenance logs.

OOC: I imagined Guy to have been standing in the doorway on guard, and that Stella walked out and then just walked back in again.

OOC: I had Stella go into the building to ask to see the maintenance logs. She had called out to the person she had been told to go see. (Lance, I think. So I put her back outside standing around where she was told to stay earlier by security.

OOC: But we are all in the same building. Stella left and was told to come back in again???

“That would explain everything. Hmmm. Stella would you like to help me work on these things and see why there is some interference going on

Stella was concerned at this point by all the orders she had received. She finally gave herself a mental shrug and replied to Ashley. ” Sure, why not? What do you have going on?”

Stella Gagnon Lt.jg.

“There is some sort of interference to these small light generators to the bigger one. They all seem to be in working order but however I would like to have the extra set of eyes and hands help me work on these. That way we have some sort of lighting in here as well”. She said to Stella.

” Sure. Stella said. ” Just tell me what you need me to do, and I’ll get on it right away!”

Stella Gagnon Lt.jg. Comms

She smiled at Stella. “All we gotta do is get the signal connection between this bigger generator to these smaller ones. What is your solution Stella?” She asked her. “The only way to get the signal Conn to work is what’s not doing it’s job.” She added.

OOC: Something is interfering with the signal and it does not appear related to the equipment.

Stella listened closely. Paused and wondered if she should say anything. Mostly she knew about comms. How they worked, what might interrupt them and to what extent they might be interrupted. She also knew how to get communications to get through the normal disruptions. But thus far to Stella’s chagrin nothing on this planet seemed to be normal by Earth standards. She hesitated to say what came to her mind first to Ashley. But it should be the A part of the equation in any sort of problem like this, but it had to be asked. ” Well, have you checked the generators to see what sort of electromagnetic fields they are producing? Sometimes the frequency of those can alter radio waves as well as stop other generators from producing energy.”

Stella Gagnon . Comms

She thought about it and thought about it good. “Hmm. Good idea. That actually sounds like a good idea for it. I’ll see what I can do.” She then started to look at it and started to work on it. She however, thought radio waves. Radio waves might be the cause of the whole thing.
