“Platus didn’t say all the maps were out of date,” Glen replied. “It was just my own observation of those pinned up in this room, and that this room looks like it hasn’t been used for a long time.”

“Of course, these are just hypotheses. What do I know, I’m just a fly boy.” replied Dionysovich.

“Those were perfectly good questions,” Glen replied. “And you are correct, in that these tunnels are so extensive and are only partially mapped, so really, anything could be down in them. I doubt there is a a subterranean city down there, but someone could hide out with enough supplies.”

Finally, Stella spoke up as she asked the captain.” Sir?” she began,” If things are disappearing in the night, then it occurs to me that we perhaps have a very good weapon that no one would really know about. ” She then nodded toward Lieutenant M’Mera and spoke as she forged on. ” Lieutenant M’Mera , please pardon me for any of my ignorance but isn’t your species blessed with a very good night vision as well as hearing and smell? It strikes me that it could be something that could be of great use to us if it’s true.

“What do you think, M’Mera?” Glen asked her, “Is a ‘night’ Op in the darkness something you could lead?”

M’Mera’s furry brows rose, “Yesss, what did you have in mind?” She asked curiously.

“Arre you meaning down in the tunnelss, Captain? Of courrsse I could. I am ssurre we could assk the Adminisstrratorr for ssome equipment if we don’t have it. He did not say the ssmallerr hand held equipment did not worrk. Ssuch as lightss, hard hatss, ropess, etc.”

“Yes, I think that is what Stella means,” Glen replied, “And only if you think it would be safe obviously, but we’ll need to investigate some tunnels at some point.”

M’Mera nodded,” I would like to ssee wherre the people dissappearred from with Crrewman Ssharp and the Doctorr. Then Captain, yess I think ourr next move might be to checking the tunnelsss while our engineerss look at the equipment up herre.”

“Fleegman, you need to sstay with the Engineerrss and guard them.” M’Mera said as an after thought.

“Aye, Ma’am,” replied Fleegman.

• Ah finally * Hunter thought as he approached M’Mera with his medical kit still strapped to his back ‘’ Lets get the equipment we need and we can leave … the sooner the better ‘’.

On the other hand Sharp was definitely not so enthusiastic to go down through the tunnels but orders were orders and so made his way towards the doctor and the COS .

Hunter approached Glen ‘’Captain could what is going on be someone from within? Is Platus 100% sure of his workers ? Or could it be that by all the mining something have been disturbed and unleashed from the depths of the abyss and is out for revenge? ‘’.

“I doubt anyone can be 100% sure of their crew,” Glen replied. “Look at the Merrimack and that spy who impersonated Dr. Kim. No one suspected him. The life of a miner is harsh and rough. You cannot choose very carefully who you hire. You need people who get the job done, so you don’t ask too many questions about anything other than their ability and previous experience.”

Lance had been deeply distracted by what was going on around him, this wasn’t unusual, where there was a lot going on Lance Frequently got distracted by things. He heard the captain ask about someone willing to go through data. And looked round, “Oh I like data and statistics, even on paper, it’s like a Zen activity.” he said offering to do the work.

“That was what I was thinking,” Glen replied. “Is that something you are capable of? I need you to crunch this data and see what you can find!”

The Lieutenant stood there listening and didn’t know what to do. Ashley just stands there and just listens.

Another of the Engineers spoke up, “If we tell them what equipment we are trying to run… If it is equipment that uses signals, such as scanners, mappers, etc. And they will not work then that is useful. If it is a tool that would say only use a battery of some type without needing to use signals and that works, such as a Hyperspanner, flux coupler…tools. Then that’s also useful too.”

“You see, if you can work out which pieces of engineering kit still work, and which pieces don’t, that could also give us a clue to what is going on here too,” Glen told Ashley. “And some of the equipment that you’ll want if you go underground,” Glen told Hunter, “… they may not work either. So, maybe you should also check your medical tools.”

’’ Understood Captain’’ Hunter replied with his calm demeanor , he’s usual way of conducting himself .

“Yes sir. I will get working on my equipment that I’ve brought down.” She said she started to test some of her equipment and see’s what works and what doesn’t. She then looked at her tricorder to see if it works but something tells her that it doesn’t.

Glen turned to the CE again, “As I said Max, I might be beneficial if someone could you go through all of your equipment in detail and more carefully itemize, what works and what doesn’t?”

Someone pointed at a side room, Hunter turned to M’Mera ‘’Lt I’ll bring the necessary equipment, could you get any maps old and new?’’ he asked ,then turned to the security ‘’We need water and high energy drinks , don’t know how long we’ll be down there that is if we ever mange to get back ‘’ whether the doctor was joking or not was hard to tell.

M’Mera nodded,”Aye ssirr.” She said as she moved over to the maps and picked a few of the best ones. One current of the colony and planet map, and one of each of the new and old maps of the underground. When she was finished with the maps she was moving away when she noted a crate beside the nearest desk. It had emergency rations in it.
“Captain, I ssuggesst each of us take some of thesse rrationss ass well.” She suggested as she grabbed a carryall bag and packed it with enough for herself too.

He then strode over to the allocated room looking around while scratching his head at all the things around him and started searching for what they needed .Helmets with Headlamp to protect their heads and provides illumination, he also threw some torches and batteries for good measure.
Gloves to protect their hands from sharp objects and rough surfaces.
Climbing Gear - Harness, ropes, and carabiners for safe descent and ascent and a compass , to helps with navigation in unfamiliar areas, knowing the medical scanner was unlikely to work .
Multi-tool and knife , useful for various tasks and emergencies.

Hunter found what looked like whistles ,he frowned not knowing what they where used for so he tried one .The ringing in his ears provided an answer …emergency whistles.

Hunter found a very well equipped first aid kit as well. One that was old fashioned with adhesive bandages, sterile gauze pads, adhesive tape, antiseptic wipes, scissors, tweezers, disposable gloves, a digital thermometer, painkillers like paracetamol or analgesics, antihistamines for allergic reactions. Splints, emergency blankets, etc.

Most of the aid kit was already in Hunter’s medical kit but he did take the digital thermometer ,tweezers and emergency blankets .

‘’Darn thing ‘’ he muttered to himself and threw some in one of the two pack bags ,he made sure the ropes where sturdy and in different lengths

Carabiners are essential tools ,these versatile clips provide a simple yet effective way to connect ropes, harnesses, and gear, ensuring safety and ease of use.

He was about to walk out but something caught his eye making him stop in his tracks ,it was a crowbar .Hunter picked it up and shoved in his medical kit then walked over to the others handing both the COS and Sharp a pack back each.

Sharp was back he had the water and high energy drinks with a couple of high protein bars ,though he did wonder if M’Mera would consume them ‘’Got them Hunter ‘’ he told the doctor as he threw them inside his pack back .

Stella watched in amazement as Hunter suddenly burst into activity ordering people to get what seemed to be enough equipment to go spelunking in the deepest darkest caverns anywhere. But he had completely derailed her plan. Her idea for Lt. M’Mera She was to have her lead the way into the tunnels since she could see in the dark. With her leading she would be sure to see anyone else before the team was spotted. The team themselves would follow M’Mera in the darkness without lights. Hooked to the Lieutenant with lines. Stella shook her head and sighed. awaiting an assignment from Captain hon..ooops. The captain. She would be nice. For she was certain that if she said anything to cast doubt on Hunters prowess, she’d get into trouble for picking on him. She frowned then thinking that maybe her plan wasn’t that good anyway.

To Hunter no verbal communication spoke volumes ‘’What’s up Lt Gagnon? What’s going on in your mind ? Have I done something which you don’t approve of ? Care to indulge me ?’’ he asked as usual in his soft tone .

Oh well put that way Hunter’s entire statement made Stella’s skin crawl. She nearly said ‘yuuck’ right out loud. She forged ahead however as she forced herself to talk to Hunter as she explained. ” Well, my idea of using Lieutenant M’Mera was based on the idea that she can see in the dark. It’s also based on the fact that whoever if anyone is living in the caves are coming out at night to do their dirty deed and returning to sleep in the dark caves in the day. This being said they should be asleep when you enter the caves. So, carrying all manner of metal clanky things doesn’t seem like a good idea. Just rope attached to the Lieutenant might work better. Along with a few lights that should only be turned on when you know what’s going on.” Stella then looked puzzled as she asked Hunter. ” And what’s the crowbar for? Aren’t the phasers working? I thought they had battery power?”

‘’We know next to nothing of what is or isn’t down there ,there is no night or day in those underground tunnels its pitch black ‘’ Hunter responded ‘’True Lt M’Mera can see more clearly in the dark but as far as I know she only has two eyes ,now what if she gets hurt ,what if we get separated ? See apart from plan A its always wise to have a plan B to fall on to .....we are going into uncharted territories , I hope there is nothing down there and we can rule out any suspicion that something is going on ,that the disappeared women are up here somewhere along with what ever equipment has been stolen’‘.

The doctor smiled ‘’A very good observation from your part ,well I never carry a phaser as a doctor I was taught to save lives not destroy them ,lets me just say its for plan B’‘

Stella just giggled a bit and shrugged as she batted her eyes in Hunters direction. ” Well, that’s just what I was thinking. But hey I’m just a girl on her first away team mission I’m probably all wrong about everything “

Hunter knew it was her first away mission ‘’ Lt if you wish to join us why not ask the Captain’s permission?’‘

Stella looked at Hunter as if he had suddenly become a pufferfish and had asked for a hug. She suppressed a smile then and told Hunter. ” No thank you. The captain has already given everyone jobs.”

Hunter’s look lingered on Stella ,without saying a word he gave her a nod took a step backwards before joining the others .

OOC: Oh quick question, which characters would have ‘spelunking’ experience? It must be real experience and where you can ‘tutor’ the rest of the team on how to put on the equipment, set pitons…etc. Hunter, is that you?

OOC: When I was younger with Malta being full of underground caves and tunnels .The problem is how do I explain in English how to put the equipment on ,how to get down,since English is a second language to me but I can try to do my best.

“Right ho! I think we have a plan now,” said Glen. “The two Engineers will stay here with Guy and see if they can work out why some equipment works and some doesn’t. A priority must be to resume communications with the Merri again, so Stella should remain here and help them with that aspect. Lance will also stay and do his ‘Zen’ data crunching and see what that throws up. He also might have an idea on the physical cause of the problem. Troy seems very keen to go underground, so he can show us his rock climbing skills and his spelunking experience. M’Mera with her night vision, and Richard also come along with me and Troy, and Eros, you might as well come too. That evens out the two teams.” Glen thought that it also split up Hunter and Gagnon as he was getting tired of their constant bickering. “Any questions?”

OOC: Okay Dave can you make two Away Team lists on the MOTD. One Tunnels and the other Colony: Engineering listing who’s in which. I think we should have a thread for each of them as well. I will start the threads if you can look after the MOTD. Now just to give a heads up I am leaving on my LOA this Friday and returning the 11th so I will probably put it to the 12th.

Hunter was too busy handing out different components that worked with batteries to the COS for her to decide who gets what and when ,not to mention what she would want for herself .The doctor knew all too well this was not Earth and had no idea what lurked in those underground tunnels, perhaps there was nothing except for some dripping water .
He also handed out the Harness ,etc....... to each and everyone.

OOC: Everyone who is going tunneling has:
Helmet with Headlamp-to protect their heads and provides illumination
Gloves- to protect their hands from sharp objects and rough surfaces.
Multi-tool and knife- useful for various tasks and emergencies.

Hunter has that gear plus Climbing Gear - 1x-Harness, ropes, and carabiners for safe descent and ascent, Compass x1.
There is one more Compass if someone else knows how to use it.
There are Torches x4(and batteries) you can decide amongst yourselves who is carrying those.

OOC: The only thing I see working atm is the first one as it relies on accelerometers and gyroscopes and not actual signals. The others all require signals.
