OOC: Hello again!

I’m finding this very hard to follow with the multiple repeated posts and negated posts, and all the long signatures don’t help me. I’m going to snip and edit this to make it make sense.

Just to be clear - There are no Bajorans and there are no Comm Badges. There has been no Communication between the Landing Party and the Merrimack. (Not sure how I was meant to know that communication wasn’t possible.) I’ll void and change all of whatever is wrong.

As the party walked down the Northern trail the circle of trees eventually ended and there was a large circular building ahead of them. As they came closer they could see several settlers and miners who entered and exited in mining and settler clothes, mainly tunic, pants and boots. None wore any sign of authority on them and none of the settlers seemed to pay any attention to the Starfleet crew. The majority of them were human but there were other races such as Riisan. The path that the crew walked on lead right up to the main doors of the building.

Lance raised an eyebrow “Odd you you would think a bunch of people in Starfleet uniforms would stick out like a sore thumb.... Apparently, we don’t even rate a second glance.”

‘’How odd’’ Hunter replied ‘’Its like we are invisible! Not exactly the eagerness of seeing us here to help .”

“Not necessarily ,”Eros interjected. “This is a Federation mining facility at times. They likely get Federation ships here all the time, bring in supplier and equipment, personnel coming and going, inspectors making sure everything is on the up and up. . . . .”

Glen wasn’t sure himself. Both Lance and Eros had made good points. “I don’t wish to startle them, and I’m not sure about their lack of interest in us either. I think that if we make ourselves open and available, then when they are ready to receive us, they’ll talk to us when they are ready. There doesn’t appear to be anything very peculiar going on here.”

Stella had found herself standing next to Doctor Hunter. Not on purpose but there she was. She watched curiously as the whole scene before her unfolded. Or appeared not to. Perhaps she was missing something? She so wanted to ask a question of someone. This was all so new to her. The closest person to her though was Hunter. And she knew his type. If you looked at them too long, they would get ideas. Finally, though she could contain herself no longer as she leaned over to Hunter and whispered loud enough for him to hear.

With that small smile of his he replied, ‘’Well usually they came at us with forks and knives and we have to run for our lives ‘’.

” Excuse me?” Stella asked him. ” Doctor Humbug? Is this the way away teams usually run? Do you usually kind of stand around in people’s front yard watching them? Shouldn’t someone give them a holler or something? I mean this is kind of creepy.”

‘’Mmm,’’ Hunter pretended to think, ‘’Maybe the witch has put a spell on them.’’ Stella would feel his fingers going up her spine.’’ No wonder the Klingon’s fled,’’ then he turned to Glen ‘’Captain any ideas on our next move?’’ the doctor asked.

The Helmsman shook his head. “Seeing as if we’re not being noticed, the only way we’re going to get invited in, is if we knock on the door.”

The Helmsman took a few steps toward the building, then paused waiting for the captain.

Glen also decided that waiting for the miners to notice them and respond wasn’t working. “I suggest that we saunter over that way, acting nonchalantly, and as Lt Dionysovich put it, ‘knock on the door’,” Glen replied.

‘’Suits me fine ,better then staying here like a couple of statues ‘’ Hunter replied, as he too started to walk in the direction of the group getting closer while scrutinizing their faces to see which one he’ll likely approach....or perhaps someone advance towards them.

As Hunter stared so intently at the group of colonists he approached one did seem to finally react and several glares from a few of the others. A 30ish looking human miner in dirty tunic and pants, with longish blonde hair and a bandana tied around his head (giving him a rather rakish and pirate look) stopped, glared then spit onto the ground at Hunter’s feet. “What are ya looking at, Star Fleet?” He demanded, none to friendly.

Hunter did not flinch ,his clear blue eyes bore into the man’s face ‘’Apparently we ain’t looking for you but rather for someone who is less of an idiot ‘’ the male doctor replied.

Eros stepped forward and in a friendly manner said, “Excuse me, sir. I’m Lt. Dionysovich, from the USS Merrimack We were dispatched to Ardan V by Starfleet Command to investigate some disturbances you miners were experiencing here, something to do with the mining facility. If you’re unaware of what I’m talking about, perhaps you could be so kind as to point us in the direction of someone that can help us?”

M’Mera who had been walking with the Captain stopped and stepped back immediately and inserted herself between the Doctor, the Helmsman, and the aggressive miner. “We do not mean any dissrrepect. We arre jusst looking forr the leaderrss of this colony.” She said in a low purring voice, trying to placate the situation.

Sharp did the same ,his hand still on the side where he’s phaser was .The last thing he wanted was to be taken by surprise and if they did not kill him probably M’Mera would…so much for the black belt and Karate.

He did wonder why the doctor looked so cool seeing there was no hesitation in the way he walked especially since he was not even armed.

Stella was near to bursting. She had never been one to stand around and do nothing. And right at the moment she wanted nothing more than to do one thing or the other. One was to stand on her tippy toes and give these people a holler to see if they were friendly. Stella did love making new friends. This thought though brought a darkness to her face. She looked sideways then toward Hunter. Well, there was the one thing she could do. She waited patiently until that hand of Hunter’s which had been sliding up and down her back was close enough. She then stepped up to Hunter as close as she could get before, she grabbed that finger of his and twisted it around until Hunter nearly came up on his tiptoes.

A non so friendly moron had just spit ,Hunter was doing his best to stay calm and Stella had picked the worst moment to fool around.

Still smiling Stella said to Hunter. ” Doctor didn’t your mama never teach you to keep your fingers where they’re supposed to be? It probably wouldn’t do a surgeon any good to be losing fingers so you might want to learn to keep body parts to yourself pretty boy. ” At this point she released the poor surgeons’ finger, looked away for a moment before looking back as she finished saying to Hunter. ” At one point I had considered you for a dalliance, but now that I understand you’re not a gentleman you would do better to spend your time looking elsewhere. ” And with that Stella turned her back on Hunter and moved forward to stand by Sharp the security officer. who she asked, ” You think these people are okay that they just keep going back and forth like that?”

Sure she did twist his finger and it did hurt but Hunter stayed composed ‘’My dear this is not the place to fool around ,now just be more ladylike before you feel the Captain’s wrath and I’m not kidding ‘’ he went on ‘’ It would be in your best interest to stay alert , some of these people aren’t exactly welcoming ‘’.
Hunter had joked with her before they had starting walking towards the group and now it sure was not the time to fool around.

Sharp who had his full attention on the other group whispered ‘’ Something is not right I suggest you stay within our team ‘’. He saw the COS trying to diffuse the situation and he hoped she’ll proceed and succeed in a specified or successful way .

As Ashley Walker is working along side with her other crew mates, she hadn’t noticed what is going on around her group or herself. However, she then looked up and noticed what everyone else was talking about. She had then walked over to the others and started to question in her own head.

The Captain said act nonchalant, however Lance was not the best person to act nonchalant, he was far too obvious, however watching the Doctor and Lt. Stella it seemed he wasn’t the worst in the party at it. “Doc, Lt. I think this is probably disagreement served best in the Dragon bar back on this ship, plus Lt. Should anything happen to us I’m sure the good Doctor is going to need his finger” he suggested patiently to them both. “We don’t need to air spats in public, especially when I get the impression Star Fleet are less welcome.” he added lowering his voice

Putting a hand on Malone shoulder Hunter replied a neutral tone ‘’Just a joke Lt while we are in the middle of an awkward situation ‘’ the doctor took a deep breath ‘’It does seem they are not exactly that jubilant to see us and I wonder why ‘’.

Glen agreed, “This is not a time for levity. We are in Starfleet uniform and we need to promote the standards and ideals that wearing it means… even if these people have no respect for it… Although the reason for that certainly needs some further investigation…”

Captain Glen stepped back so that he was level with M’Mera and could hear better the reply from the ill-mannered miner.

After a sidewise glance at the Captain, M’Mera realized he was letting her handle the situation. She turned her attention back to the miner.
For his part, the man just grunted and growled, “if ya go up to that big building there, ya should find someone that will deal with you.” He gave a quick jerk of his head toward the round building before he moved forward, shouldering the doctor rudely on his way past as he walked away.

Hunter who had stepped aside letting M’Mera deal with the miner and when he shouldered his body hitting the doctor Hunter still stayed calm though he wished he could have just five minutes alone with the man.

“Let it go, Hunter. It’s not worth getting any further on someone’s bad side,” Eros interjected.

    ’’ I will ‘’ Hunter replied back .

He then looked at the building ‘’Well at least it does seem that we have made some progress ‘’.

“I guess so,” replied Glen. “We knocked on the door, and kind of got an invite inside.”

At which point, his communicator chirped and he opened it.

=/\= **** =/\= All he got was Static.

Glen replied =/\= Doctor Cross? =/\= There was only more static in reply.

Glen wondered, What if the technical problems of the mining colony could be related. What if machines were interfered with like the Comms?

Ashley Walker said, “Captain. I don’t know if it’ll help, but I would like to help anyway. I can even help out up there on the ship if need be. Help see what is going on and see if I can unlock it. With your permission of course captain. But if not, I will understand I’ll stay here and help here.” She said with some uncertainty.

Eros shook his head. “Ummm . . . how you planning on getting back? We can’t contact the ship to Transport us.”

“Just remain with the landing party,” Glen replied. “And I want us to stick close together.”

Unfortunately, the members of the away team would find the Communicators not working, full of static. Any attempt to beam out would be unsuccessful. The entire team was marooned on the planet until a solution was found out. The doors of the round building waited.

As the group set off toward the indicated building, the Helmsman asked, “Did anybody take continuous scans of the area? Did the static and interference increase as we got closer to the facility?”

“That’s the first time I have attempted to communicate with the ship,” Glen replied. “We haven’t been here long enough to make a check-in call yet. But Communications from the ship to the Colony didn’t work earlier, either. I wonder if it is widespread and is connected with other machinery faults… but you’re welcome to see if it has some source… if it’s stronger or weaker in different directions.”

‘’I’ll try again and see if the static interference increased or decreased ,” and with that Hunter held his medical tricorder in the direction of the said building.

Stella looked into the door into the building where that nice fellow had disappeared wondering what was going on in there. Wondering as well why everyone out here was having so many problems and just wanting to scan things. With everything breaking down or only working half of the time couldn’t this extend to the scanners they were using. She then turned to the Helmsman and asked him. ” Who’s to guarantee that the scanners are working if nothing else is? Couldn’t it be possible we’d be getting false readings? ”

“Good point,” Glen replied, “But we won’t know until someone tries, and that would be a good thing to know anyway, so I’ll let Hunter and Dionysovitch try.”

There Stella said something. She bit her bottom lip and stared toward the building really certain that going to the apparent source of the problem might just at least get them started on the path to resolving all their issues.

“A word of advice. You’ll have to learn to get over Hunter,” Glen quietly told Stella. “He’s a good man under that vain and pompous exterior. It’s partly a shield he uses to keep people away. You’ll grow to like him if you try, honestly!”

Glen spoke up, “Listen up everyone. We have no communication with the ship. That means that we can’t ask them to beam us up, so effectively we are marooned here. It’s possible that our other instruments are faulty too. That might also explain why they have a problem with the mining machines down here. As Stella quite rightly says, the answers will come from communicating with people in the old fashioned way, so lets go inside and find someone in charge to speak to. Keep together, don’t go wandering off and follow me.”

Glen began walking towards the door to the building, opened it and went inside.

OOC: My apologies for the confusion and mix-up with the comms. Miriam had posted on the bridge that the comms had gotten through and I was going to go with it and just have them go out afterward. But this is fine.

IC:
The doors of the building swung open at their approach and as they looked around inside the building they saw it was set up with stations that went around the circumference of the building. It appeared that the stations had something to do with running the mining equipment and all was in chaos. People hollered back and forth and worked frantically in opened panels as they apparently tried to get the machines to work properly again. A tall, grey haired and bearded man stood in robes in the middle of the chaos barking out orders. It would appear that he was in charge of the chaos and the one to speak too.
