Cross made her way to the dragon bar,she had not seen Joe for a couple of days ‘’Maybe he’s been busy ‘’ she muttered to herself ‘’Or flirting with the female crew ,guess I should have listened to Hunter ‘’.Entering the bar ,she sat on the first available seat next to the bar wondering how long it would take for Joe to actually see her .The CMO was fed up with juices what she really wanted was a shot of vodka, after all just one was not going to harm the baby but would Joe serve her one?..she very much doubted.
Cross CMO.
Joe was at the other end of the bar taking an inventory of some of the supplies they had there. He heard someone walk in but he didn’t get into much of a hurry. There wasn’t much of anything but a skeleton crew on board and none of them were in any hurry to do much. After Joe finished the shelf he was working on he stood up to see Cross standing at the bar. A forced smile appeared on his face as he walked down the bar. ” Been a long time Counselor.” Joe said in a neutral voice. ” What can I get for you?”
Joe Milligan Barman
Cross picked up on the forced smile after all she knew the man inside out ‘’ Yes long time no see ‘’ she replied ‘’Something tells me you ain’t that elated to see me and I can’t help but wonder why ‘’ .
Cross CMO.
” I’m sure you could figure that out doctor if you put your mind to it. It wasn’t that long ago that we had our last chat. Or could it be you have forgotten? Considering what we were discussing I can’t rightly say which would be worse. Whether you forgot about the subject of our talk or you forgot about me. ” It was Joe. If you wanted to wander into the pen with a grumpy bull, then one must consider that he might charge you. Joe was plain and blunt.
Her mouth was not exactly a smiling rosy flower ,she was unfazed by his grumpiness .
’’ Whether you forgot about the subject of our talk or you forgot about me. “.
She looked at him with penetrating eyes ‘’ Had I forgotten about you I wouldn’t be here would I’’ Cross retorted ‘’ And I have no idea what you are talking about, so do please enlighten me ‘’.Having said his piece for the moment Joe reached under the bar and pulled out a shot glass and set it onto the bar. He looked Cross square in the eyes with not a bit conciliation in them. Setting the glass down on the bar rather loudly he asked her. ” So, what’ll it be doc. What’s your poison?”
Jor Milligan Barman (and very grumpy!)
That feeling she had managed to subdue for quiet some time was rising but the little voice came back Calm down. Just calm down.
‘’Poison ? Apple juice would do just fine ‘’.Cross CMO
Joe knew that Miri was holding back her anger at him. He wasn’t as dumb as she thought he was. It was just that she most generally began to throw things at him instead of trying to talk. Which in the end would have probably shown her an entirely different side to him. He was not angry with her now. He was angry with himself. His own weakness. His own weakness about the way she could make him feel. About her and the baby. Joe was a man who would most usually not care for anyone or anything that he didn’t want to. But Miri he swore had put some kind of witches, curse on him. One which of late felt like blade in his spleen being twisted slowly.
Joe set the apple juice in front of Miri as he cast about for thing to say. At first the only thing he could think of was the history women seemed to have with apples. He tore himself away from that one though and instead leaned on the bar and wiped his hand across his tired looking face. He then asked simply. ” So how you been Miri?”
Joe Milligan Barman
’’ I’m fine Joe just came over to see you..guess we’ve both been busy ‘’ Cross replied in a low tone ‘’Thanks for the apple juice ‘’. The CMO quietly sipped her juice though her gaze never left Joe ,simple put she loved the man even though he had left her twice in the past . The thought that maybe he would leave her again had made her fearful, scared, worried and somewhat insecure......... for what would happen to the baby without Joe’s family to look after him .
And yet Cross found it difficult to open up to him about her feelings.
Cross CMO.
Joe was not as some might say. A modern man in the sense that he was in touch with his feelings. At least not the touchy-feely ones that people told him he should be in touch with. He was in own view, pretty much okay. And from what he had seen in his life that was better than a lot of people who struggled with emotions that were made up or pushed on them by others. Joe simply solved his problems or walked away from them. Or in many cases had fights with them.
” Okay Miri.” he began. ” Let’s quit playing around. I’m not one who can put up with dancing around in circles without a partner. You either love me or you don’t. If you love me then I’m told that people who do love one another have like…” Joe waved his hand for a second before continuing… ” Well, they have conversations. They talk to one another you know.”
At this point Cross lowered her head ,Joe had made a point what he said after all was true.
Joe paused and turned his head for a moment. He clenched his jaw as he tried his hardest to be the Joe that everyone knew. But in this instance things were anything but black and white for Joe. He was standing around in the cold by himself with no one to advise him or help him. All he could do was to try to be him. As he had spoken to Miri, even he could tell that his words had come out a bit harsh, but he couldn’t help it. He had waited too long. He had waited wanting Miri to come to him and speak to him in some sort of fashion that would let him into the lives of them all. Instead, he had gotten a juice order.
She wished there was someone she could talk too about her thoughts and insecurities but there was none.
Joe stood stone still. He looked for an instant like a statue. Finally, though he said in a low voice as he turned toward Miri. “No, it won’t happen. I’ve lost one child, and I’ll not lose another one. You made the mistake of letting me know I’m the father doctor. I’ve looked into this thing and found out that for some reason I have a few rights in this issue. If you don’t want the child, then I can certainly take care of it. One way or another. With me here or both of us living somewhere else. I’ve waited long enough for you to make up your mind. ” He then took a deep breath as he tried to steady himself. He looked at Cross then and spoke in an unsteady voice. ” Dammit Miri I love you to death, but I can’t let all your mistrust of me and your insecurities hurt my child.”
The CMO now looked at Joe ‘’I..I…I’m sorry , I too want this baby more then anything else and don’t ever doubt that I don’t love you . I loved you when I first laid eyes on you way back when you were the COS but I can’t help feeling insecure , please don’t blame me with your track record I’m always on edge that one day you would leave and there would be no one I can give the baby too..... your side of the family is the only family he’ll have ‘’ feeling more at ease Cross went on ‘’ At least now I know whatever happens between us your first priority is our child and that is all I wanted to hear Joe ‘’.
Joe gripped the edge of the bar for an instant until his knuckles had started to turn color and then he tried to smile at Cross as he asked her,” Care for another juice?”
Joe Milligan BartenderCross shook her head ‘’No thanks to be honest I only came to see you and I’m glad we had this conversation,it has meant a lot to me ‘’. A smile spread across her face and Cross being Cross said ‘’ Em you wouldn’t by any chance give me a tiny weeny bit of vodka would you ?’’ she had already slipped off the stool to make a run for the door and out of the Dragon bar.
Cross CMO.
Joe could watch. An angry look on her face as she had ordered the vodka. He repeated to himself as he finished pouring the drink and looked up to see Cross running for the door as if she were being chased after by a hungry bear. He just sighed and not wanting the perfectly good vodka go to waste he tossed that back himself. It was then his anger spilled over, and he threw the glass into a wall shattering it into pieces. It was growing pretty obvious to him that talking was not going to work with Cross. Within the next few days, he would have to have papers filed against her.Joe Milligan Barman
OOC: Hey I wrote a smile on her face so it was not an angry look and she ran before you could give her a piece of your mind, being pregnant and ordering vodka :)
