A day early for his official Duty check-in, Xavier stood on one side of the office he had been told was used by the Executive Officer. The last of the official check-ins he had to complete before being approved for duty aboard the Merrimack, he now wore the ships Uniform rather than his casual clothes from his medical appointment. He found it fairly fortuitous that he had indeed boarded and set himself up early, as scuttlebug was on the rounds that the ship was about to have its’ R&R cut short by another Starfleet paperweight thinking their orders were more important than a crews ability to get whatever baggage from their last mission out of their system. Whatever the case may be, Xavier knew by reputation that the Merrimack was a professional enough ship to work past that.
That professionalism was led by the ships Command crew first and foremost so, making sure the uniform was sitting right and that his boots were on the right feet, he pressed the door chime to announce that the XO had a visitor, if she was in.

The door glided open with a soft hiss, revealing a small but meticulously organized office space that was adorned with artwork and artifacts from the rich and storied continent of Africa. Verity was seated behind her desk, fully engrossed in a data PADD. Her long, jet-black hair was secured in a tight bun, and she donned the standard Starfleet officer’s uniform in blue as she used to be the CSO of the Merrimack before she was the First Officer.
She looked up from her work, her deep, observant eyes narrowing for a moment as she studied Xavier before a welcoming smile brightened her face.
Whether it was a Science thing or not, Xavier reacted the same. Pausing on his side of the door his eyes quickly shifted around the room before settling on the woman behind the desk, his own eyes narrowing comparably as the two assessed the other. Whether it was the woman’s striking features or not, he found his eyes settling in on her own honey brown orbs. Shakespeare once wrote that The eyes are the window to your soul, although whether he was the original author of that or took inspiration from others, was up for debate. Regardless, this was where Xavier found himself now focusing before breaking into an easy smile at the same time she did.
“Ah, Lieutenant Khauv, isn’t it?” Verity acknowledged. “You’re right on time. I’ve been reviewing your record. Please, take a seat. You’ve arrived sooner than expected, and you seem ready to dive into your duties. Shall we proceed without delay?”
V. Aphelion, First Officer
“Yes, Commander,” Xavier nodded and stepped into the office, letting the doors slide shut behind him. “Lieutenant Xavier Khauv, formerly of the U.S.S. Leander reporting for Duty as the Merrimacks Chief Science Officer.” Stopping in front of the desk he straightened for an instant in the standard ‘Attention’ position and then relaxed, placing a small chit with his transfer orders on her desk in front of him.
Sitting down in the seat offered, facing the Executive Officer, Xavier tilted his head slightly as he looked towards the data pad that she had been looking at. “I find that being early is far better than being on time, plus it just feels better to be early. Hopefully you didn’t find my record disappointingly short,” he smiled, “I haven’t had a terribly exciting career, yet, more of a solid one. I understand that I have a hard act to follow considering the caliber and skill of the ships previous Science Chief though.” As he said it, the smile turned to an ever so slight grin while his body relaxed slightly into the chair.
