Max then said to the woman, “Thank you for your information and I am going to be doing some scans to see how things are functioning and making sure the mine is safe, both structurally and air quality wise. I am not trying to impede or over step my bounds but just trying to look over you and the miners.” He had hoped to not scare or upset the woman as this was to be helpful and not destructive. He then motioned to his NEs to follow him and he pulled out his scanner. He hit a few buttons to scan both structure and air quality and began doing scans.

OOC: That wasn’t clear to me, for whatever reasons. So then, as I see it, we are currently standing within an Open Cast Mine, and the GM is asking if you want to risk entering inside some dangerous, very unstable and highly unsafe tunnels, with an obvious perilous conclusion? I’ll leave that choice to you as CE! However, there is the question of do we actually need to enter in order to carry out these necessary and vital scans, and to complete your orders?

OOC: Sorry for all the confusion. I would like to do all the scans without entering and to be able to scan somewhere near where these Sun crystals are so I can scan them without seeming to scan them because I am scanning the area. I am going to post something and hopefully it will work.

Max went ahead and took our his tricorder. Before entering the mine, he wanted to scan as much as he was able to without having to actually enter. He would have guessed the mines were not safe. He typed in the keys in order to start the scan. He set the tricorder to scan as deep as possible. He waited for the scan to provide as much data as possible.

Approaching one area where some piles of ‘Sun Crystals’ were he could easily confirm by looking they were indeed dilthium, further the tricorder also confirmed this after a second. The quality of it was pretty well off not the best quality from a raw sample by any measure but with refinement it would be easily accepted for any ships within Starfleet or the Federation. So it would seem this was one of the primary reasons the Klingons had taken over the planet decades ago and only left after the Khitomer treaty due to the Praxis disaster.

Scanning more deeply for the mines below him, he could see they were a mix array of safety. The first level about 10 or so feet below him was roughly within the nearby mile radius of scanning made of more secure metal and heavy timbers. Deeper down by another 20-30 feet on a second and third level was of similar quality, however the fourth level a good 50ft deep was mostly it seems bare rock supported by rusted metal or timbers. It did not seem like any type of collapse could happen though unless the locals started to use explosives or large scale laser carving. Which given they had neither anymore likely meant they were using heavy iron picks and such. As long as they would have a plan to support the tunnels as they grew and took their times to test stability within the means of their pre-warp tech they should be ok, though Mullins could probably give quite a few pointers of structural engineering to help them out here, not to mention improve various simple means of ventilation and safety it they chose to continue to mine.

Max was not surprised with the information provided by the tricorder. He could tell by the quality of the dilthium was pretty decent even before being told that by the tricorder. He wanted to remember to notate all the details about the “Sun Crystals”. There had to be a way to make this all very positive and make the people of this planet very happy and make them feel helpful. He was curious if what his tricorder could read was the actual bottom of the area the people of this planet had mined to. He wanted to create a report in order to provide a ton of details, both to help with how to do very good support and what details were needed for the further 50 feet down in order to make the mines as safe as possible. He wanted to make sure all the details were correct and help out as much as possible. He was going to follow up with everything and he decided that going down a level, might be ideal to look to see if something else is there which was not detected. He nodded at the Engineering Ensigns and thought for a few minutes.

Captain Glen called Lt. Mullins from the Elder’s building to check on his team’s progress. =/\= Lieutenant? How is your team getting along? Are the mines safe? Can we make improvements? And are ‘sun crystals’ what I think they are =/\=

Max double-checked his tricorder to make sure he relayed the correct information. Max verified he was somewhat alone and it seemed no one could see/hear him. But he wanted to be somewhat quiet to not alarm anyone with his response. He then hit his comm badge and said =/\=Lt Mullins here. The first two levels are pretty safe but the third is not so hot. I would like to write up a report on what can be done with their tech in order to help out. This will help improve the mines as they are now and what can be done to help moving fowards. In regards to the sun crystals, they are what we believe they are and they are half decent. They expect the masters to come back to get the crystals but I don’t think they will in the end. I think it might be in Star-fleets best interest, especially to help with the relations between our two people. I am not 100% sure on how to go about it but it might be something which can be worked over time. I am going to be relaying some data up to the rest of my engineering team to help come up with a safety plan. Is there anything else you need me to look at while I am down here? =/\=. He then looked around to see if anyone was paying attention or seemed to have heard his report. He was confident that no one did and was waiting on a response from the captain.
