Aevin’s hand had been hovering, just about to move them closer and then instead he sat back for the oncoming debate. He knew he would end up going closer. In the Genesis or a small craft. Dagen shook his head as he looked at the data. “Our shielding would protect us from that amount of radiation,” he replied. “We can beam in from a distance that that ship exploding wouldn’t touch us. We can keep our distance and be safe and still know what’s up.”

The computer analysed the data received and posted a probability of 78% that the warp engine was powered by nuclear material. There was a 82.5% probability that the engine was damaged and there was a nuclear leak.

“Oh boy,” Dagen muttered as he read the report from the computer. “Not good.” He scratched his forehead as he tapped out the radiation intensity probability. It was never a good thing to have anything nuclear go bad. “I sure hope they built an ejection sequence into this,” he muttered low.

Swiveling on his chair, he reported, “Sirs, there is a very good chance that they have engine damage and radiation leak. Data suggests, but isn’t conclusive, that their drive was nuclear powered. If something went wrong with that they would have significant issues with radiation and possible nuclear material.”

He nodded to Operations, “go to warp nine. Check with engineering see if we can get 9.4 for eight hours.”

“Yes sir. Warp nine.” Aevin set the Genesis hurtling through space at a speed he could remember thinking impossible. He sent a text message to engineering. Currently traveling warp 9. Any possibility of 9.4 for 8 hours?

Just because a ship was having an overload it didn’t always mean the couldn’t go to warp. =^=Can you engage your warp drive?=^=

The Intel officer was able to clean up the static due to the nuclear radiation emanating from the damaged ship.

‘Global Pallas Space Corps’ David mused to himself. It sounded vaguely familiar. He pulled up anything in the main database that matched either the Space Corps or either of the ships in question.

The database did not come up with anything regarding the ships but the technology was rather dated. The term “Space Corps” used in 14 colonies’ local law enforcement agencies, despite Starfleet being available to help them.

“I confirm warp 9.4,” Dagen called out. This would be a good test to ‘clean out the pipes’ so to speak, like hitting the highway on an old ground based vehicle. “Sirs, we do have metaphasic shielding that would protect us from instances here like this. We can get in a lot closer than they could if need be.” Still it did seem their arrival would be late. In the meantime they could learn a lot about these Pallas people.

“Warp 9 should be sufficient. I doubt they need us, but just in case we shouldn’t dawdle.”

If they didn’t need help, or should he say, want help, then they were essentially observing an emergency evacuation prior to a first contact. It would be interesting to know ‘how’ they were evacuating. Did they have transporters? Were they limited to shuttle style transportation? Would ‘their’ shields prevent the aliens’ style of technology from beaming through it? “Setting sensors to actively take in what information we can on them,” he announced. Yes that could be countermanded to err on the side of nicety.

“Do we have anything on this space force and the race attached to it.” Marius turned to face Michaels. “We’ll need a report for the captain, when he call us as I’m sure he can feel us going to warp 9” Marius smirked to himself. He wondered if it would take 2 or 3 seconds for the call to arrive.

They were still quite a while out. 7 hours at this speed. They could have their detonation 5 hours before they might arrive. They could do their evacuation, retreat and have tea before they got close enough to be of any help. Dagen relaxed and brought up the display for the engine output and strain. Next to that he displayed the baseline output/strain figures to compare it to as they traveled.

Beside that window he kept the two ships on screen and logged any data that the sensors might come up with. It didn’t look as though they had transporters. But his interest was more in the line of the radiation output of the ships’ engines - both the damaged one and the intact vessel. If anything went wrong they may yet be needed and more data was better data. He was sure that in other parts of the ship the sensors were taking in the area of space and other bits. That was their wheelhouse. This was his.

David let out a sigh. Just like Marius to want him to pull something out of thin air.

“Nothing directly matching the ships specifically, other than their dated technology and no transporters. There are several references in the database of a space corps, but so far nothing to directly to these ships or any race or people.”
