Subject: Annual Physical – Let’s Make It Easy

Commander,

It’s that time again—annual physical. I’d like to get you in tomorrow morning at 0830. We’ll start with the standard baseline scans and work our way through the checklist. Unless you’ve been experimenting with new ways to test inertial dampeners from inside the engine room, it should take no more than twenty minutes.

No lectures, no lectures disguised as friendly conversation—just clear data and a clean bill of health if you’ve earned it.

Let me know if that time works.

Admittedly Dagen had missed this in his mail, buried amongst a myriad of other notices. When he saw it later in the evening he laughed. He had seen more doctors in his, and Thor’s tenure than Commander Edelu would have had opportunity for. He replied back with a touch to confirm the appointment.

And .. at 8:28 Dagen arrived at Sickbay.

Having seen him prior, Dagen had no trouble picking him out from the other staff present, few as there were at the time in the main area. “Doctor,” he said, realizing he could have several heads turn at that intro.

Edelu looked up from the diagnostic console at the sound of his name. One brow rose the faintest degree, but he did not glance toward the other staff—his attention stayed fixed on the officer who had arrived with his characteristic punctuality.

“Commander Thor,” he acknowledged, his voice carrying the steady cadence of ritual. He gestured toward the biobed already prepped with a sterile field and an active diagnostic panel. “Right on time. My colleagues in Starfleet Medical would insist on congratulating you for it. I’ll simply note it makes my morning easier.”

Crossing to retrieve a tricorder from the tray, he keyed it to Thor’s profile with a flick of his thumb. “Shoes off the deck, shoulders square. We’ll start with the baseline scans—nothing dramatic, just confirmation that all the parts you brought in with you are still arranged as expected.”

The words carried no inflection of humor, but there was a quiet gleam in his eyes that suggested he was not entirely without it.
