“So how does this affect us,” asked a rather prim and irritating woman with blonde hair styled in the iconic where is your manager fashion. “And do you really think it is necessary for us all to come at the same time? Can’t we open up diplomatic relations with you as a separate sovereignty? Whatever the idiots to my south and the barbarians to my west choose it might not be in my country’s best interest.”
Calvin seemed to be talking for hours, or at least it felt like it to him. “This is a planet wide issue and if you’re governments were so designed, I would have preferred to have one negotiator for the planet, but since that doesn’t exist. One representative and an aide who can negotiate for the your country is needed. ”
“Yes but that is not how we do things. We have a committee and if this is a relevant and timely as you are suggesting we can not meet with you with less than a fifty-person delegation.” Her tone indicated that she was clearly annoyed with the thought only one from her country could attend. People equaled power so they would flood this ship with enough people to have a decent show of force.
He turned to face an ensign, making the mute gesture with his back turned. “I don’t know how the diplomacy department does it. I’m almost ready to let the whole thing go and warp to the next system on the list.”
“She reminds me of my Aunt Karen. I know that they are a first contact situation but how do women seem to know that hair style and the matching RBF that goes with it,” the helmsman commented to the Captian.
He returned to the screen as he shook his head. ‘Unmute. At this point High Counsel, the Lesscco attempted to attack your planet with star-ships several decades if not a century more advanced than you. If we didn’t come by, by this time you would been subjugated and wouldn’t be in a position to negotiate at all.”
“Are you sure,” she asked Marius in a maternal tone as if he had stole a cookie and she was trying to get him to confess.
He turned again to the bridge. “Anyone?”
Marius
“Oh Kayrin,” a new voice popped into the bridge. “Why don’t you take that leminon wedge from your mouth? It might help wipe that perpetual scowl off your face,” a man snickered suddenly popping up next to her image. If Calvin wasn’t expecting a two-front war in diplomacy he didn’t have a choice now.
Clicking on the mute button the comm agent looked at the Captin. “You said, anyone. I thought you meant add more people,” he shrugged. “The other nation apparently thinks you are brokering a one-way deal and has been blowing up the hails for the past two minutes.
