Family Motto: If you don't use us it's your own asphalt. This is in reference to the construction and mechanical businesses several of her brothers own. It is a community joke that the Slade family are the blue collar yellow pages since they can fix your car, build your home, perscribe you a medicine, put out your fires or lock up your enemies.

______________________________________ BACKGROUND:

She lived in a working-class section of the city and saw that not everyone toed the line in her neighborhood. Her neighborhood was a tight community but that also meant things did not leave the community at times. People struggled with real-world issues like alcoholism, single-parent homes, and drugs. Most of her friends did not leave home and seek higher education but found local jobs after graduation from high school. While at times her neighborhood was tough, it also was filled with lots of love, laughter, and loyalty. Nights were spent playing in the back alleys, sitting on porch stoops, and street cookouts where the residents all set up tables and grilled food shared with everyone. Most of the people in her neighborhood had enough to get by but never enough it seemed to get ahead. People from her home neighborhood still tend to reach out to her as if she still lived in the neighborhood and not stationed at times light years away from them.

The Genesis will be her first starship placement.

______________________________________ MEDICAL INFORMATION:

Medical History: Vanessa is healthy with no known allergies. She does have a condition called Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helioopthalmic Outburst (ACHOO) Syndrome. This is characterized by uncontrollable sneezing in response to the sudden exposure to bright light, typically intense sunlight. It is an autosomal dominant condition meaning if one parent is affected, their child has a 50% chance of inheriting the syndrome. Within the Slade family several of Vanessa's brothers and her father have the condition. It does not typically affect them in day to day life however, the those that do have it in the Slade family have learned was to elicit the sneeze on command. They have been known to employ it to annoyed each other, liven up dull church services, and in Vanessa's case, as a cover when she needs a gather her thoughts in uncomfortable situations.

Vanessa has had numerous injuries since joining Starfleet. They are listed in her official medical records as followed:

______________________________________ PSYCHOLOGICAL INFORMATION:

Vanessa has no psychological issues or conditions. She does, however, get very uncomfortable with silence and being alone. This is mainly due to her unusually large family. With 12 people in the Slade household, there was very little privacy or quiet.

Family

Siblings: Vanessa had nine brothers. Her parents thought it would be original to name all the boys with the letter D after their father and the girls with a V after their mother. Unfortunately, Vanessa was the only girl born into the family.

With so many in the family, they all have assigned ring tones so everyone knows who is calling who without having to memorize a million communication numbers. Vanessa has one but it is not listed because she doesn't call herself.
