Chan stepped on to the holodeck she was hoping for a good place to relax and unwind. It felt that she hadn’t had much of a chance to do that the past few weeks. So much had happened so quickly. She had received bad news, then changed departments, then got promoted and now she was trying to fix the mess that was the robotics department. She was glad to finaly have a break.

Chan had picked her favorite program, she hadn’t fired it up in a while but she knew it was just what she needed.

As soon as Chan entered the holodeck she was greeted by the scene of a softly lit french bistro. The walls lined with tables and chairs. A stage at the front and a bar at the back. the bar was made of french mahogany and the chairs where all metal with leather cushions. the carpet where a rich red in color and soft and almost bouncy. Steps lead down to a large seating are full of conversing characters and attentive listeners to the music being played. All the characters where dressed in 1940s army, air force and navy uniforms from all the allied countries. As well a few civilian characters dotted about. Chan looked own at herself and found she was wearing the uniform of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) the female arm of the royal air force. She smiled she was glad she had added the randomize uniform element. it meant whoever walked in would wear a random uniform form one of the three arms of the allied armies.

As she steeped further into the bistro the charters sprung to life. The room was filled with chatter and soft piano music coming form the stage. Light puffs of smoke where coming from lit cigarettes and candles on the tables, of course it was simulated so it was absolutely harmless. Chan knew a far few people would not agree with the inclusion of smoking but she felt it added to the aesthetic of the whole program On the stage stood a beautiful women in a long white gown. Her hairs was blonde and her eyes where a stark blue. she sang that old black magic.

Chan walked to the bar and smiled at the young mam behind the bar “New in town are you?” he asked

“Just got in this morning” Chan replied happily. “I’ll have a glass of wine. please” She added

“Sure thing I’ll give you the house special.” the barman said as she pured a glass.

Chan took the drink and gave it a sip “A 1926 Château Margaux if I’m not mistaken” she said simply.

“You must have an exceptional palate.” He said surprise clear in his voice.

Chan shook her head “No I’m just good when it comes to wine. I’ll have a bottle if you please. I’ll be at that table ” she added pointing to table near the front. she then got up and took a seat. She loved 1940s music. it always made her happy. It was surprising that even though the humans where in the middle of a war, the songs they sang seemed to be joyful and hopeful.

Riley had been planning to check in with Chan since the promotion party on the holodeck. She’d seemed happy that night, but any change caused a bit of turmoil and he was keenly aware that she’d been more isolated since the birth of her daughter. There was little in life more demanding than being a single, working parent. He’d dropped by the robotics lab and finding her off shift had asked the computer to locate her. Unsure if she wanted company on the holodeck, he’d thought he’d try anyway and finding the door unlocked, he let himself in.

The scene that greeted his eyes was impressive, and unexpected. He’d half thought he’d find himself on Chan’s icy homeworld. As he looked down, he took in the kahki and olive uniform of a US air corps officer and let out a low whistle.

“Well, I’ll be,” he murmered to himself. “Isn’t that something?”

He didn’t spot Chan right off, so he worked his way to the bar and ordered himself two fingers of whiskey. With drink in hand he moved closer to the stage, his body naturally starting to move with the upbeat music. Closer in it was easy to spot Chan, although she looked quite different in the centuries’ old uniform. HE made his way to her table and put his hand on the back of a free seat.

“Mind if I join you?”

Dekker, CNS

Chan didn’t recognize the CNS at first the only issue with generating clothing. So she looked up and smiled thinking it was a hologram. As soon as she saw Dekker she stood up “Of course Counsellor” she said simply, gesturing to the free seat. Before sitting back down lifting her wine Glass she took a sip.

“How are you?” she asked “I bet you weren’t expecting something like this form me” she said politely.

Riley settled himself into the offered seat and took a sip from his drink, “Honestly, no. But I like it. It’s fun. I have to admit the automatic costumes are a nice touch.”

Riley turned his attention to the entertainment, enjoying the music. He’d known Chan long enough to not feel the need to fill the air with conversation every moment they were together.

He took another sip of his drink before turning to Chan, “How’s your new job going?”
