Star Fleet Career Summary
Dekker’s first assignment was aboard the USS Ark Angel. He served aboard the Ark Angel for one year before receiving a promotion to Lieutenant junior grade and transferring to the USS Genesis. He served as head counselor aboard the Genesis for one year before receiving permission to take a second extended leave and return to academia. Permission had been given by Rear Admiral Kalos Lon. Although the Admiral was outside Dekker’s chain of command, no objections were filed. Three years later, at Dekker’s request, his leave was ended and he was returned to his former assignment aboard the USS Genesis. Riley was promoted to Full Lieutenant and 2nd Officer of the USS Genesis by Captain Julien King (2015060.1) His command training was to be supervised by Captain Julien King.

Personal Background
Dekker was born on Earth to Benedict and Ralina Dekker. He was raised in the city of Seattle on the North American continent. Dekker is an only child. It is not a given that those with only partial Betazoid heritage will develop empathic or telepathic abilities. Dekker began to develop limited empathic abilities as he entered his teenage years. He is able to sense emotions of others, but only able to read direct thoughts from family and close intimates.

Educational History: Dekker entered Starfleet Academy at age 18 and graduated with a BS in Psychology and an officer’s commission at age 22. He was not immediately assigned to a posting. He requested, and received, an extended leave to continue his studies in Psychology at the University of Betazed.
He completed his doctoral program, all save his thesis, by age 26 and was assigned as a Counselor aboard the USS Ark Angel. At 28 he returned to the University of Betazed, having received a post-doctoral fellowship. The fellowship terminated three years later.
