(snip)“Arboretum?” He questioned. Fayth would recognize that he would make an excellent poker player. He was very excited to have someone take the responsibility of the Arboretum off his hands. It wasn’t that he disliked planets, there were a million other things he had to do and the Arboretum never loved him back like any of the other systems he was in charge of.
“Do you know how many ensigns offered to take over the arboretum when the first come on board, two months later its too much work, or takes too much time.” He picked up a PaDD and pulled up her record. “There’s more to it than setting the watering and fertilizer schedule… its a massive undertaking… what’s your plan, what plants are you going to grow… how are you going to check all the allergies of the crew.”

Her record would show she’s a doctor by major but also minored in Botany. That during her cadet tour she restored the arboretum on her ship. It had been neglected and in complete disrepair when she had arrived and it was now thriving. She also had very good scores in all her botany classes with positive reviews on all her work in those classes. Sharah smiled, “Well since I’m a doctor it will be easy to pull up the general allergies of the crew to ensure their safety. I wasn’t aware that there was no plan in place currently. So I would say that first I would want to create different eco-zones in order to represent as many home planets as possible. That may require moving plants around, but I have skill with that. I would specifically create walking paths and picnic areas for the crew to enjoy. As well as beds specifically for science and medical personnel to grow any plants they need for their work.” Sharah pauses thinking, “Are there families on board, Sir? If so I could also put in a children’s garden as well.” She thinks for a moment, “I would really need to see the current layout of the arboretum and the seeds stores to give you a more accurate plan.” Sharah was so excited she had to work really hard not to start rapid fire talking about it. Other ensigns might have given up but this…this would help her in more than one way, and she was willing to make it work, no matter what.
En. Fayth, Doctor“Not really. Europa is a relatively small explorer class. I’m sure there are some couples, but no families.” Marsh hit a couple of keys on his PaDD and the storage compartments with the seeds stores came up. He slid it across the table so she could see it.
“Take it.” He was more than happy to give the information for her to access. “There is already a layout. Its kind of designed to make it impossible to see from one end to the other, to give the illusion of being bigger than it is and more private. You don’t know how many couples I caught making out in the compartment.” He shook his head, although not too sadly. “People don’t seem to understand there really isn’t anywhere to hide in there.”
“It’s not really like the holodeck where everyone is locked out when you are using it…”
Marsh
While Lt. Marsh talked Sharah started taking inventory of the seeds in stock. “There is actually a great selection here.” She nodded as he described the problems with the Arboretum’s current layout. “I can attempt to keep the illusion of being bigger than it is while removing those....hidden gems. Or would you prefer, Sir, that I leave it like that?” Sharah didn’t really give much thought to the holodecks. Right now, she was off duty for 48 hours and she was excited to get started. “Would you like me to bring you a plan to approve before I start moving anything around?”
En Fayth, Doctor
“Nah, the couples deserve some illusion of privacy, in fact if you can make more hidden nooks, I’d be happy with it.” He paused. “You don’t have design everything from scratch. There’s a number of designs on record from people who are architects or whatever profession does that sort of thing.”
“Yes bring them to me first.” He had no idea what she’d put together. She was an ensign, while he could dress her down, the captain would blame him if she did something wrong.
