The veritable flood of words he received in return reminded him that this young person was most likely nervous and high strung. So he leaned against a console with his hip, set the cane aside and raised his hands to gently halt her from going any further with questions or comments. “I see..” He began, his tone was just slightly kinder than it had been. “And ‘Doctor Zarath’ will work just fine, We’re physicians before we’re anything else. No need for formality unless you need to slap down a higher ranking officer for being unfit for duty.” It took a second for his expression to communicate that this was intended as a joke.

“Now.. As for what I asked, I merely wished to see what experience you’ve had so far and if there were any experience before the academy. Europa isn’t a combat ship, but we do explore and are often far from support. Sometimes, there might be combat situations to deal with. If you don’t have any bad habits to unlearn, then I’ll be able to teach you to deal with that properly. Now that’s taken care of… Whatever you’d like to do on your own time is completely up to you. Europa has a fair-sized Arboretum area, and I’m sure you’ll be able to get Marsh or Zorell to sign off on any experimenting you’d like to do. Which… If I may point out, botany falls under life sciences, not the medical department. So I have no authority either way in that particular area.” Once he’d finished, he picked up a PaDD off the console and handed it to Fayth.

“These are the results of your scan. Can you tell me what you’d look for next in the context of the information present? Does this result match what’s in your file?”

Sharah stopped, she’d gotten away from herself again. She took a deep calming breath and listened carefully to what Dr. Zarath said. She took the PaDD and looked it over carefully. She took the time to read the information and process it. “Yes the results match what is in my file. If I was the doctor, I would be reassured that my psilosynine levels are extremely high and steady with no fluctuations. My neruosynapsis are firing without interruption. These two things indicate to me that there is no residual parasitic infection left over from my illness on Challenger. The psilosynine should be high, confirming there is no change in my condition.” Sharah pauses momentairily to see if the Dr requests further clarification about her condition.

“Very good.” He smiled.

“The scans indicate I’ve not gotten enough sleep. Though expected from arriving to Europa late last night and reporting early, for a patient with my condition it could be a cause for concern if it continues. Everything else is normal and consistant with my records.”

She made a mental note to Marsh or Zorell. She had a minor in botany as well and perhaps they would allow her some space to work in the arboretum.

“That was exactly my thought as well. First, let me say… Always read the file, and be judicious in asking questions and getting information. Not every patient is forthcoming, and the correct diagnosis is key. The more information you can get, the better treatment you can administer.” Here, Tolar allowed himself a small grin. “I believe your abilities will help you to be an excellent physician, even though you seem to pay attention to details well enough without them. Excellent job.” He took the PaDD back from her and made an entry before going on.

“Second, I would like for you to get some quality rest. Please take 48 hours to rest up and settle in, I expect you to sleep at least sixteen of those hours, if not twenty. Self-care is just as important for doctors as for anyone else. If you need an alpha wave emitter, let me know and I’ll provide one. Sometimes that can help with extrasensory stimuli. Did you have any other questions or concerns?” The Andorian had set the PaDD down and taken up his cane once more and begun to move back towards his office area. “Would you like a cup of tea?” His antennae snaked back and forth at the thought of a hot cup of Srajula.

Sharah followed Dr Zarath into his office, “Actually ice water please. Anything with caffine doesn’t agree with me and keeps me awake a lot longer than others.” She pulled her alpha wave inducer out of her bag. “Actually, I have one. My doctors on Betazed gave it to me. I never set it myself though. When I need it I’m so tired that I’m concerned I would program it wrong.” Sharah contemplates for a moment. “Actually, Dr Zarath, my room mate. You’ll meet her soon, En Ashlyn Trenton. She came from Challenger as well and I discovered last night that her…” she was trying to find the right words, “thought patterns were extremely disruptive and were preventing me from actually getting REM sleep. I don’t know if this was a one time or recurring incident. I know alpha inducers can’t be used long term. I would like to explore other options if there are any. I don’t want to change roommate, she knows about my own condition and we actually work well together.”
