The journey to the bridge was quiet but Cass knew her mother was just as preoccupied with Adir’s surgery as she was. And they both knew that nothing good would come from dwelling on it. At least the foray to the bridge was a necessary distraction.

The turbolift doors opened and Cass stepped out, moving to the side to allow her mother and Steven to step onto the bridge. She nodded to Dvorak. “Captain,” Cassidy said. “Commander Norene Abrams,” she said, gesturing to her mother. “Commander Abrams, this is Captain Johann Dvorak.”

Dvorak looked away from the Science station, and started paying attention to their new guests.

Norene stepped forward, unworried about how worn out she looked. Her uniform was the worse for wear, and though she had had her radiation inoculation and had the more serious laceration healed, she looked like she could sleep for days. But she was still in command of the TAM’s crew while Captain Massey was down and she didn’t feel she could rest. Not just yet anyway. Reaching out a hand, she gave a small sincere smile. “Thank you, Captain. We’re very grateful anyone was able to find us. I’m glad to know you have such a tenacious and resourceful crew,” she said, casting a side glance at Cassidy and Steven.

He took her hand and shook it firmly. “They were exceptionally well motivated,” he observed. “This was originally a search we were not going to be assigned to at all, before the two of them managed to look a little more closely at things.” He himself had called in a favor at Fleet Command to get Europa assigned to this search as well, though actually finding the TAM would probably do a lot to pay that favor off just on its own.

“Everything alright so far with your rescue?” he asked.

Norene gave half a nod. “For the most part. The crew is all board the three ships, and we’re lucky as many people survived that did. The most seriously injured were brought here while the rest were split between the Fermi and the Brahe. We split the department heads between the other two ships so that they can look ofter those there, and I’ll keep an eye on the small group here. I’ll need to contact my team in a bit, but right now we’re just waiting for an update on a couple critical cases that have just gone into surgery.” She said it so effortlessly, but then again, Commander Abrams hadn’t made it to the role of XO without being able to set personal things aside.

Cassidy, however, wasn’t buying the matter-of-fact demeanour of her mother, and almost looked amused, though sobered up quickly to address Dvorak. “Captain Massey is apparently in a coma with a massive head injury. They’re doing their best,” she said softly. “The other case is my father,” Cass said softly, but a slight resolved lift of her chin. “We’re just killing time at this point. But permission to assign some VIP quarters, Captain,” she said, gesturing with her head to Norene.”
