Cass got up to her feet and moved around the desk, relinquishing it to her boss. She gave a long look to Jerrin who actually met her gaze this time and she could see he was oddly wistful. Briefly. Then he looked away so she simply gave a quizzical look and left the office.

Jerrin couldn’t help but sneak a look at Abrams as she left and then went back to mulling over what he would say to the chief.

“So, you’re just going to listen to whatever the engineer says, even if it’s not true?” the adolescent asked, not challenging though. He was more gauging the situation.

Following the boy’s eyes as he watched Cassidy leave, issue number two reared itself. “Well no, I’d pull the sensor logs, and well I can read minds so lying to me ain’t easy. How old are you now Jerrin?” a crush could help, or destroy any attempt to fix the kid easily. He’d need to have a talk with Cass about that he figured. Range paused and wondered why he had given up drinking it was so much easier.

“Fifteen in your years, though apparently Tenraith mature faster, so probably older,” Jerrin said with a bit of pride. He was definitely a bit older, and he certainly wasn’t naive… about some things. Life in state care hadn’t exactly left him clueless, but at the same time he wasn’t used to operating in a tight knit community like the Europa.
