“Already planned on it,” Cassidy replied. She felt deeply for Jerrin, but she had been serious earlier. She couldn’t be his friend, and while she could grant some leniency because of Vora, there was a distinct limit to it. “Want me to do that now?”

Jerrin sat there giving them a disbelieving look. “I don’t want her to get into trouble!” he blurted out suddenly and shut right back up.

Range nodded to Cassidy. “Well whdo you think your behavour reflects on here son?” treating the boy more like an adult at the moment. Let him think about what actions had happened, what that engineer could do, or say that caused his mother prblems not Jerrin. “Hmmmm?”

Cass got up to her feet and moved around the desk, relinquishing it to her boss. She gave a long look to Jerrin who actually met her gaze this time and she could see he was oddly wistful. Briefly. Then he looked away so she simply gave a quizzical look and left the office.

Jerrin couldn’t help but sneak a look at Abrams as she left and then went back to mulling over what he would say to the chief.

“So, you’re just going to listen to whatever the engineer says, even if it’s not true?” the adolescent asked, not challenging though. He was more gauging the situation.

Following the boy’s eyes as he watched Cassidy leave, issue number two reared itself. “Well no, I’d pull the sensor logs, and well I can read minds so lying to meain’t easy. How old are you now Jerrin?” a crush could help, or destroy any attempt to fix the kid easily. He’d need to have a talk with Cass about that he figured. Range paused and wondered why he had given up drinking it was so much easier.
