“Wait, does that mean we have permission to join the search?” Cassidy said hopefully, trying to contain her energy enough to keep herself together.

Ensign Abrams, Security

“Well we only need permission if they know what we are going.” He looked at the Captain. “By time they find out we are off course we would already be there and half done with a standard search.”

Marsh

“I’ll take care of the permission part,” the Captain said while giving Mister Marsh a mischievous smirk. He wasn’t about to admit so openly that he already had the same thought as the Chief Science Officer. “Don’t you two worry about that.”

More seriously, he gave an order: “Feed your search pattern to the conn, and have us proceed there at best speed.”

Cassidy nodded. “Vora’s in Astrometrics . I’ll let her know.” She knew they were effectively dismissed and so she took a step back politely. But her gaze lingered on Dvorak or a moment and it was hard to hide her anxiety as well as her gratitude. “Thank you, Captain.”

Ensign Abrams, Security

“You’re welcome, Miss Abrams,” he initially said out of reflex, before speaking a bit more softly: “We’ll find her.”

Cassidy nodded and then took a deep breath. She glanced at Steven with a smile and then left the ready room, feeling truly hopeful for the first time since she had gotten the message about her parents’ ship gong missing.

Ensign Abrams, Security

Steven had a slight smile as he was happy they were finally doing something that could have positive results, but it was more likely that they would find nothing… or bodies. He tried to keep that thought out of his mind, but it couldn’t help but dim his usual million dollar smile to a 1.99.
