“It’s not that simple,” Jerrin said darkly, adding his pile of tomato to the bowl as well. Because he knew the truth and if he spoke about any of the stuff Vora prodded him about, he was pretty certain he’d cross a line and mess everything up.

“Nothing concerning our emotions ever is I expect.” She smiled reassuringly and handed him a red onion. It seemed as though Sienna wasn’t going to push, at least not yet. She was just getting him to be comfortable in her presence. “Dice a quarter of this after your next tomato.”
Jerrin took the red vegetable and nodded, setting it to the side. It was just as well she
“I don’t know the specifics of how your mother came back into your life. Would you share that with me?” She asked as she pulled out a baguette to slice up.Nox, CNS
He set about cutting up the second tomato and chewed on the inside of his cheek for a moment before he replied. “So I guess it was about five years ago and I had been just been removed from my latest foster home. Nasty people. I was glad they didn’t want me anymore,” he grumbled. “Anyway, I was going through intake again and this guy shows up. All fancy suit and stern looks. A lawyer named Torno Hass. I had no idea what he wanted and I certainly didn’t trust him. He told me that he wanted to place me in protective custody, because my life was potentially in danger if certain people found me.” He cast a glance to Nox and rolled his eyes. “I thought he was nuts, you know. But then he explained that he knew who my parents were and my father was involved with dangerous people and they wanted me somewhere safe. The man was a high level person in the judicial system and could do stuff, and he knew things about my parents, so… I agreed. It was better than sitting around waiting for another family to take me, or not.”
Sienna finished cutting up her second tomato and tossed the chopped contents into the bowl. She let him talk as he liked, this was as much a listening visit as it was a talking one. The more she and Jerrin connected, the easier it would be for her to help him. She pulled over a bunch of green and started picking off the leaves from stems.
Jerrin finished the tomato and scooped it up into the bowl before setting to the onion. He began to peel off the outer skin as he continued the story. “So he takes me to this house. no, house isn’t even the right word. Seven families could live in this house,” he said with an incredulous laugh. “And I simply lived there. I went to school and I tried to not piss anyone off. But the man, Hass, he was always asking questions, but I couldn’t answer any of them.” Slicing the onion, he was mindful of where his fingers were. “I was just a baby when I was given up for adoption. I knew nothing.”
“Then a few months later, he tells me that things had changed rather suddenly. That my father had died and they found my mom. He didn’t tell me just then that the two were connected, but”-he shrugged-“he said that if I wanted, I could go live with her. Or I could chose to go to another foster family. It seemed like a pretty easy choice. It really didn’t make too much of a difference. She was just another stranger, but… she was my mom, you know? And I always wondered. So, a little over a year after I moved into the fancy house of rich people, I left Tenra and moved here to the Europa. And of course met Vora in person for the first time.”

“I remember reading about Hass in the other Sienna’s file. I think he was the man that put your mother in danger and in retaliation the other Siennadye Nox smacked him.” She grinned rather pleased with her counterpart. “Right in front of the Captain too. I don’t normally condone physical violence but I can see why she felt it necessary.”

Jerrin was instantly amused and his maroon eyes lit up. “Man, I’d have paid to see that.”
Finishing up with the onion, he set it to the side. “He’s not a bad person, Hass. A little… over-zealous for my liking, which makes him seems bit shady, but, I dunno, I’ve met a lot of not so great people and he does mean well. But I can understand why my mom hasn’t exactly gone out of her way to get to know him. I just find it weird, though. I mean, there’s this whole family there and she’s basically acted like they don’t exist. It’s weird.”
~Jerrin
Sienna contemplated that as she chopped fine chunks of the Basil. “I suppose it would be weird, if someone had had a normal life with a normal loving family and normal support.” She tilted her head to one side and paused, biting her lip before continuing. “I don’t think anything about your mother’s history could be considered normal. She was traumatized and has worked to get through and past it to lead a happy and healthy life. I am betting that she isn’t really ready to work on her relationships with her family. Besides, I think she has had her hands full adjusting to being a parent of an almost fully grown young man. In that context, its probably not a shock that she has not been oriented on her extra family. And maybe it is weird, but it’s not a bad thing.”
“Do you want to spend more time with them?”
