“Wait,” Johann said… “Pets and personal property are missing?”

“Yes, ” Abrams confirmed. “I just had them reported before I came here.”

“If we assume that these people are actually capable of slipping past security systems, then we could assume that there are intruders already here on this ship.”

“Do a full sweep for intruders,” he ordered Abrams. “And let’s increase our readiness. Go to Yellow Alert.”

Cassidy nodded and rose to her feet. “I already increased the patrols, but the added info will be useful.” Moving off to the corner of the room, she issued out the orders to her department and the security officer on the bridge. The alert status of the ship was amended a few moments later.

“Captain?” Zeke said, “Maybe it’s not worth mentioning. But when we were at Starbasr 51, I ate lunch at this neat little cafe. I think that it was called, The 51st street Wine and Grill.”

“Anyhow, I met this alien named Archnie. He was from a planet outside the Federation. And applying for asylum under protection.”

Johann nodded; even though he had just heard this story from Abrams before, it was worth hearing again if he had some additional insight into it.

“He said that he eas being pursued by other aliens who could breech any security.”

Avik paused when she heard the CO speak. Her eyes turned toward him while he reviewed the CoS’ report over the missing animals and property, an occurrence that seemed nearly normal if not for the large amount of cases. A concern crossed her thoughts, but the XO dismissed it. This crew weren’t simple and untrained Cadets after all.

Her eyes shifted to Zeke when he mentioned the alien and decided to speak.

“Yes, Abrams already mentioned this on the bridge. I believe she included he seemed frightened and edgy. With both of you here, it might provide us with more information,” she stated.

Zeke looked at Abrams. “Security officers are naturally trained to be more observant then other crew,” he said. “What’s the most odd situation that’s been reported?”

CMO

Cassidy remained standing and leaned against the wall. “Well, the missing pet snake and rat are more explainable, if odd that they happened at the same time. But to me it’s the missing picture frame that one crew member and her roommate couldn’t figure out what happened to. We’re still also not certain about the computer system breach that uploaded recipes. These are all innocuous but each require an unusual set of events to occur. And now that these are all happening at once? Well, Archnie’s fear is understandable.” She wished she could have spoken to him again and gotten more details, and once more she worried for his safety.

Zeke snorted. “Why, these seem like the sort of practical jokes that we pulled back at the Academy! Do the new recipes just happen to include snake or rat?”

CMO

Cassidy shook her head. “No, they aren’t recipes added to the database, they were ones already there that were accessed. And if it were a practical joke, we’d have the ability to trace the person responsible. Only unauthorized users trying to avoid detection would go through that much trouble to poke our curiosity and leave us little to work with.” And that was the danger in her mind, truly. It wasn’t the random events but the coordinated effort possibly going into the whole of it that bothered her.

“I still don’t understand why they would look at the food database,” the Captain commented. “Or engage in petty theft. Who steals a picture frame, really?”

Mattie was quiet for a moment “If it is a snake like creature or an arachnid it might be possible to find them using thermal scanners looking for colder temperatures that would be consistent with these creatures.”

CE

“You know, that’s actually a good idea. And one that might actually lead somewhere. We shouldn’t waste our time trying to figure out why small animals are being stolen and why the recipe database is being hacked into; it’s enough that they are and that someone is doing it. We can ask them why after we capture them.”

“Go ahead and configure the sensors accordingly. “
