Stepping in, Abrams took a moment to recycle the glass, bottle and cheese platter in the replicator and tidied the couch enough so they could sit down and relax. From the bedroom she grabbed a blanket and curled up on the couch. She was looking forward to the boxty was was amused at the skeptical look Steven had given her. What he didn’t realize was that the dish was nothing more than a mixture of grated raw potatoes and mashed potatoes made into a batter and fried in a griddle as a pancake. Add a really good roast beef and gravy and it was pure comfort food, just like the rugelach she had shared with him before when she first learned about her parents’ disappearance.

Something about being wrapped up in the blanket that smelled of both her and Steven and the peace and quiet of his quarters allowed Cassidy to relax a bit more. Almost being able to smell her mother cooking boxty in the kitchen of her childhood home, she began to doze off lost in a small happy memory.

There was the slight whoosh noise that came with the opening of the room’s door. His hands were full with a heavy tray that had more on it than two plates of food. A pitcher of a replicated bottle of red wine. In general people couldn’t replicate alcohol in their own quarters.

Steven was about to speak but as he noted her lying quietly… likely sleeping (on his bed) he smiled slightly and put the tray down on the table in the middle of the room. He paused and he started slowly, quietly stripping off his uniform. He had every intention just lying down beside her.

Despite being sleep deprived, between her current anxiety and her training, Cass was a light sleeper. She opened one eye and saw a glimpse of Steven before she groggily opened another. “Sorry, I guess it was just to cozy a spot for me to stay awake,” she said with a tiny smile. He had been so good to her lately and she was really glad to have a bit of time with him. Sometimes their relationship felt utterly complicated, but right here and now she could see that it was far more simple than they let themselves acknowledge. She loved him, and in his own way she knew he loved her too, but they had simply not yet gotten to the point where everything was on the table and they had t make decisions about the future. She certainly had no intentions of doing that right now!

He finished undressing with a slight smile. “No, I’m sorry for waking you.” He slipped in beside her, being the big spoon and slid one hand under the cushion and the other over her hip and into the crook of her waist from behind. Marsh wore a tee shirt and boxer briefs, the shirt he stripped off but the bottoms he left on. Marsh was not a fully naked sleeper. He like the comfort a some clothes.

Cassidy snuggled in to him quite happily. “I think I can forgive you,” she said groggily.

“I’ve been a little sleepy too, You don’t mind if I lie in behind you and enjoy your warmth… do you?” It wasn’t really a question, more like an offer that he expected her to take and made in a manner that made it sound like she was doing him a favor.

“I should eat something, especially since you went to the effort of getting something, but I think I’m quite content here,” Cass replied.

It didn’t take long or much coaxing for her to drift off again, content that though it might not be long, she might get a bit more sleep.
