After speaking with the previous Ensign, Tal found that it would be wise to contact the latter, just as quickly as she had, the first. Looking over the file, once more, for the proper name, she tentatively placed her hand to her badge, glancing back at the file before she chose to speak. =^=Beveres to Stein, could you come down to my office for a quick evaluation, if you have the time?=^= She asked, well aware that he could, quite easily, be busy with an event in the Sickbay. Of all officers, engineers and doctors were amongst the most busy and without any spare time.

Lt. Beveres
CNS.

Silence over the comms but mere minutes later the door chime rang. “Ensign Stein to see you ma’am,” came the soft voice from the other side of the door.

Ens. Stein, Medical

“Come in!” A thickly accented voice rang from the other side, clearly from Human decent, but the sound was somewhat South African, Kenyan, maybe?

When the man stepped in, he would see that the room was shrouded in the warm light that the malprograming had finally allowed her to create. There was a new feel to the appearance of the furniture, as she had managed to get around to redecorating the office, now that she had been there for well over a year. While the replicator remained broken, essentially a lost cause to her, the remainder of the room had changed. The window straight ahead had a few pots of succulents, seeing as they could survive in such peculiar conditions. Before the window, a large, cushioned couch lay, a ragged blanket placed on the furthermost left seat, where a tiny Guinea Pig rested, her eyes seemingly closed. To the right of the couch, was a smaller, singular chair, a book rested on the wooden coffee table in front of it. Further to the right, a desk was placed in a uniform manner, despite the accompanying chairs being rather haphazard, in comparison. The desk was somewhat bland, but did possess holographic pictures of a dark woman and her family. While, around the room and behind the desk, there were few scattered photos. As for the woman herself, she was an young, athletic, curly haired Kenyan woman, her ringlets brushed from her large eyes, as she situated herself behind the mundane desk.

“Ah, Ensign. Come in, and have a seat.” Her smile was genuine, despite these words likely being engrained into her head. “I am Lieutenant Ta’lahali Beveres, but, please, call me Beveres.” She rose to her feet, offering a rather dark hand.

Stein moves stiffly and awkwardly. Not so much in a patronizing or even holier than thou but more like a socially awkward teen would. Avoiding eye contact at all costs and trying to keep himself as small as possible. “Yes Lieutenant. How may I be of use to you today?”

The man has a mop of dark salt and pepper hair on top of his head. It isn’t combed but it at least tidy. His cheeks are clean shaven. His frame is slightly with long spindly fingers covered in pale skin.

Ens. Stein

Tal noticed these mannerism, “Nervous?” She asked, softening her tone so it didn’t sound as abrupt or perhaps threatening, to him. “I simply wanted to get your psychological evaluation done, so I would be out of your hair for a year or so.”

She motioned to the chair, “Pleaee, have a seat.” A look of amusement soon came across her, “Unfortunately, I cannot offer you anything to drink.. my replicator has a mind of its own.”

Lt. Beveres
CNS

Francis looks at the offending replicator with narrowed eyes. “Have you told it to behave? Sometimes a strong word is all that it takes to get unruly children to obey,” he says in his mousy tone before looking back up to Beveres. “No, not really nervous. I am always this way. I have been told it is unsettling to some.”

“Oh, I do suppose that is a tactic that could be utilized to see if it does anything,” She hummed, glancing at the Replicator, she narrowed her eyes, “Behave!” It was more of a facetious act, than anything else. Turning back to Stein, she shrugged. “Unfortunately, I don’t think this child is so simplistic.”

He move to take a seat in one of the padded chairs, lowering his small frame into it as silently as possible. “I think that is why I accepted this posting. I like remote postings with fewer people to annoy me.

Ens. Stein

To her, he was not that small, as she stood relatively at the same height, so it hardly registered in her mind, as anything odd. “What positing were you at, prior to the Viking?” She asked, curious if he had always been on remote assignments, as opposed to larger ones.

Lt. Beveres
CNS

Stein contemplates this question for some time before nodding, “The Draco, the Atlantis, then time back on Earth at medical headquarters.” The man reaches out to play with a knicknack Beveres has on her little table, if not the book which he opens and flips through. Before continuing, “Never really long enough to make much of an impact except to earn experience and save a few lives. “

“That is all that matters, eh?” Beveres asked, noting the way he was playing with a few of the items from the table. Which, she didn’t mind, it merely insinuated possible anxiety of uneasiness in the presence of the counselor. “Which of those was the most impactful?”

Setting the book back down he leans back and smiles more politely, more relaxed at the CNS. “My specialties are surgery and epidemiology. I seem to find my place studying the illnesses we have never seen before and mapping how they play out across populations.”

Ens. Stein, Medical

Ta’lahali was pleased to see that he had calmed down a bit, as she clasped her hands over her left kneecap, whose leg was crossed over the right. “Have you found any particular illness that interested you the most? Or do they all have a place?”

Lt. Beveres
CNS

Stein contemplates this for a long time, giving the question honest and through consideration before he opens his mouth and before closing it again. He tilts his head again and frowns before finally offering quietly, “Not especially. Each one has its place and each one in its place.” He smiles a moment more nodding, “Each one is different in how it infects the host. Why did you know there is one in a remote system in the Klingon Empire that only infects Klingons but both Humans and, interestingly, Cardassians can carry it?”

Ens. Stein, Medical

Bump

“Really? It is effective within the Klingon body, however Cardassians and Humans merely carry it? Are they also impacted by the effects of the disease, or are they like birds, and merely transport it from place to place?” Being of the Medical field, there was a certain curiosity than danced within her tone.

Lt. Beveres
CNS

“No reactive carriers, I believe they are called,” Stein says, “Well, they have been called many thing but I suppose that is as good as anything.” He smiles a little, “So tell me Lieutenant Beveres, why did you take this posting? You seem to be very social. Out of the way for someone like you.”
