[snip]The processed request for a spectral analysis of the burning crops showed that a gel like substance that registered as shuttle fuel was coated over the fields and was causing the ongoing burning. Further scans also now picked up that the nearby mines were also on fire the rich coal, and other deposits super heated by a similar method. The colony while showing minor out breaks of fires was more intact but still no life signs showed up, though there was some interference due to localized sporadic power sources fizzing off and on.

“Sensors indicate that the crops are apparently covered in a gel-like substance. Composition is similar to shuttle fuel. It seems as though a nearby coal mine is also burning, having been started in a similar fashion. I’m also seeing sporadic energy readings. Indicates at least some of the colony’s power is functioning partially.”
He looked up from the scope again, and turned to face everyone else on the Bridge. “The power oscillations are producing interference. I haven’t seen any life signs but I can’t rule out that someone might still be down there.”
– Ivo Černý, XO/CSO
“Thanks, Ivo. I agree. I think it’s time we got a look for ourselves. Shall we?” The Andorian swiveled his chair to face his First Officer once more, gripping the arms as if he’d get up. “I think we’ll want Hudson as well, probably a couple of security officers.” His antennae were curling back and forth giving voice to his frustration and shock, but those emotions having an outlet, failed to show themselves in his voice, which remained steady and unhitched.
-Zarath, CO
Ivo simply nodded, and flipped a bunch of switches on the science console in order to prepare to beam down. One of the buttons he pressed activated the intercom on the console.
=/\= Ensign Savage to the Bridge, please. =/\=
It could be wise to have more then just the three officers and two NEs to search the colony while small overall it would take some time to search just for the five of them and there was a lot of ground to cover.

Myasnikov turned and looked at the Captain. “Sir, if I may. I think a shuttle would be best for a cursory reconnaissance. If there are people there, we may need to evacuate them. And I would like to volunteer to pilot, Sir.”
Myasnikov, Navigator
Cerny stopped to see what the Captain would say about this suggestion. He didn’t think it was actually necessary to have a shuttle to evacuate people, but it could be possible that flying low could cut through some of the interference.
Amber frowned as the Captain moved to rise. “Captain, is it such a good idea that you and the XO both go to the surface. Let me go.” She hadn’t realized she had volunteered till she did. But she straightened her spine and continued. “I can go in your place and relay back what we find. With them concentrating on various locations, I can be a single relay so we keep track of everyone.” And she added, “And if their comms are really down, I’d be more of a help to getting them back up.”
She wasn’t sure if it was a good idea. But she ‘had’ promised the CO on their first meeting that she would occasionally but heads with him on his choices to go on away teams. She just hadn’t realized she’d actually be doing it. She kept her gaze steady so he would know she was serious.
Amber
CommsAre we running a starship by committee now? Ivo thought. Geez… Besides, it seemed like it would be easier to coordinate communications from the ship instead of the surface, especially if there was also going to be a shuttle launching.
Quinn, who had simply been observing up to this point, finally spoke up. “I’ll have a security team prepped and waiting to move out on your orders, Captain.” There’s trouble brewing down there, I can practically feel it. A whole colony doesn’t just up and vanish for no good reason. Internally, she felt a thrill of excitement. This is what she’d joined Star-Fleet for. While people may have lost their lives, there was nothing she could do about that. However, if there was still someone alive down there, she’d try her damnedest to save them and put a stop to whatever trouble was down there.

Security Chief“It would be logical to include an engineer in the away team as well, Sir.” T’Pria commented from her station. “Both to assist with the investigation at the colony and also to be on hand for any shuttle maintenance that might be required, if that is indeed the mode of transport you are choosing to take.”
- Lt T’Pria (CE)
Kohana tilted his head and gave the young Russian navigator a grinning, sidelong glance. Ah, to be a newly minted crew member. Ever eager to volunteer for the landing parties, whether they were needed or not. . .
CPO Black Wolf (helm)
The Andorian had swiveled the command chair as his bridge crew began volunteering for the landing party. Th’elin turned back to Ivo Cerny and smiled grimly, his eyebrows rising as his antennae bent forward slightly. “Mr. Cerny, it appears we’ll be putting together two landing parties… Would you mind heading one up, while I head up the other?”
“Sure,” Ivo said. “How do you want to split us up? Shirts and skirts?”
It was a joke, but he explained briefly. “I mean, we could have one team search for survivors while the other team tries to fix the colony’s power problems so that we can reduce the sensor interference. You could keep Hudson and I could take T’Pria. Or vice versa.” It oddly did work out to be ‘shirts and skirts’ when viewed that way, though several people not mentioned who were likely to go or want to go would tip the gender balance heavily toward whatever team had women, so it would probably not be a good idea to pick the teams that arbitrarily.
“We could also have one team take the shuttle. Or, not, if we’re not launching one.”
– Ivo Černý, XO/CSO
Now he did stand to his feet. “Mr. Blackwolf, it seems you’ll be taking Conn again. Don’t spill any coffee on the chair. The rest of you, prepare for ground actions.”
-Zarath, CO
“Aye, sir,” the Chief replied, while spinning in his chair. He stood and waited until the Captain left the bridge to take the center seat.
OOC: Still waiting on how we’re resolving this....

Myasnikov grinned and looked at Black Wolf. “I’ll pick up a tshirt.” and he laughed softly, the excitement obvious.
Myasnikov, Navigator
The Captain paused at Cerny’s words and thought for a moment. “I’ll take Hudson and a few others to look for survivors. I’d like to be present for any first-hand information we find. Why don’t you take T’pria and try to get the interference taken care of? We need to find out what happened and the more things we can cover the better.” He looked at the young Russian then. “I don’t think we’ll be needing a shuttle this time, Mr. Myasnikov. You can impress me with your piloting skills another time.” His smirk was good-natured.
“Medical and security personnel with me, the rest, please join Mr. Cerny’s party.”
-Zarath, CO
Myasnikov nodded and said “Yes, sir.” and actually managed to hold his face expressionless until the planet-side contingent left the bridge. Then a very colorful stream of Russian expletives was mumbled at his console.
Ovik finally got the chime through the computer, with the voice of the captain coming through. He looked over and saw that Quinn and the others were already on their way. He put down the tricorder he was working on and grabbed his phaser, and headed towards the transporter room to meet his colleagues and the captain.

David rushed up to the bridge upon hearing the message. He started running at full speed to the nearest ladder. He turned a corner and almost mowed down a red shirt Security officer. The door opened to a ladder that had looked rather daunting of a climb to David at first. He grabbed the first rung of the ladder and proceeded to climb higher and higher. He finally had reached his destination after what had seem to him an eternity but in all actuality it took ten minutes. A glistening of perspiration showed on his face as he stepped onto the Bridge. “Ensign Savage” David paused and was seen panting “reporting as ordered.”
Savage, Sci
As Kohana sat down in the captain’s chair, he grinned at Myasnikov, and said jokingly, “I guess that’s a ‘no’ on the T-shirt, Ensign?”
