The trip to Spacedock was fairly mundane, and yet the Vulcan known as Ovik had enjoyed it thoroughly. He had the opportunity to visit Vulcan and see his family and the monastery after his last deployment. That deployment, barely a year after his commissioning, was informative and fulfilled a lot of skills experience check boxes. But it was not the most exciting. So pulling into the Sol system after a visit home, with all the craft buzzing in and out of Earth’s orbits, was enthralling.

Ovik made his way through the docking ports and over to the ship - the USS Sentinel. She was a fairly new Governor-class ship, with the same look and feel of the good old Constitution, but a bit more sleek and slender. He had read that she was a bit quicker and more nimble. That would be good for his posting at Security. He wasn’t 100% sure what all he would be doing. But pulling bridge duty with the ship’s weaponry could be on the table.

Deck 10 was his destination, his duffel still slung over his shoulder. The Vulcan found his way there after being approved for boarding, and found his way to the security chief. At least that’s who he thought it was. The full dossier of his boss, with a photo, had not been offered him yet.

Ovik came to attention and dropped his bag. “Sir, Ensign Ovik reporting,” He said calmly, standing before Phy-Knight, anxious to get started.

Quinn, dressed in black trousers and a red shirt, rather than the more traditional skirt uniform, with her flaming red hair tied up in a high ponytail, surveyed the man in front of her. Immediately she caught sight of the pointy ears. Ahhh, this will be my sole Vulcan crew member. She’d already read his file and of most interest to her was his training in V’Shan and Hapkido and the notes that suggested he had a tendency appear more human than the average Vulcan; at least in terms of his emotions and logic. He might make a good sparring partner, once I’ve got them all training properly.

She met his gaze, raised her right hand and split her fingers between the middle and ring finger. “Live long and prosper,” she greeted, her voice firm but with a warm undertone. She’d encountered more than enough Vulcan’s in her travels to have picked up the greeting.

Ovik’s head cocked as he took in the greeting. “Sochya eh dif [peace and long life],” he says in Vulcan. “Peace to you as well, sir.” The Vulcan relaxed after the exchange and went to at-ease. “I appreciate the greeting.” He managed a half-grin.

Now that they had greeted one another in the appropriate manner for his species, Quinn extended her right hand towards him. She knew a lot of Vulcan’s found the idea of a handshake slightly awkward, so let’s put the notes in his file to the test.

The Vulcan maintained his grin and then accepted the hand. They shook briefly sand let their hands down. “You have arranged your office quite nicely,” he opined.

Quinn laughed internally as her eyes glanced around at the bare office; all her personal effects were still up in her quarters. I suppose Vulcan’s do have a liking for the boring functional look. I wonder what he’ll think once I display some of the more interesting things I picked up when backpacking across the quadrant? “Thank you, Ensign,” she replied, her tone level, “but sucking up to the boss won’t gain you any favours on my team and won’t keep you alive out in space. Now, I intend to hold a group briefing with the entire team this afternoon. So, report back here at 1500 hours, understood?”
