OCC: Anybody can join in!!IC: The bridge of the USS Sentinel was silent, save for the whir of the computers processing new data into the ships library. At the moment the only other systems in operation on the ship were life support and environmental control, as technicians prepared for the new crew members to arrive. There was only a skeleton crew aboard as the Sentinel had just returned to drydock from her shakedown cruise. Final touches and adjustments were being made throughout the ship.
If there had been anyone else on the bridge, they would occasionally hear a whistle or a voice humming some random song from the past. The sounds were coming from a lone figure, on his back, underneath the helm console. His hands were hidden deep inside the machine as he made adjustments to the controls that steered the ship on course.
The man working diligently was the ship’s chief helmsman and flight control officer, Chief Petty Officer Kohana Black Wolf. He was one of the few holdovers from the shakedown cruise that would remain on the crew under the command of her new CO. He hadn’t met the CO yet, but wanted to make sure the helm was operating in top condition. That’s why Black Wolf had taken it upon himself to fix the slight error in the controls.
During the shakedown cruise, she had been sluggish when pulling to the starboard. Kohana had been at the helm of enough ships in his career to know when something “felt” off. He was going to fix it before anyone else would notice. It wasn’t real noticeable, but the Sentinel was a battleship, and that sluggishness could be the difference between life and death. . . .

Amber came onto the bridge humming. She had managed to get clearance to come aboard early. As the new Comms officer, she said it was imperative she be part of diagnostic and program troubleshooting prior to release from dry dock. She was in the telltale uniform and her hair was coiled neatly in a braid on the back of her head. She settled down at her station, her back to the man down a level under the helm console.

CommsAs she sat, the doors opened again and yet another figure came in. He looked around and smiled, and then saw the woman at the Comms station. “Um, hello. I am Lieutenant JG Myasnikov. The new Navigator.” His words were friendly, and a thick Russian accent was more than noticable. He walked over and extended his hand, and then noticed the body on the floor under the Helm controls. With a grin, he said to the figure on the deck “I really hope the diagnosis isnt serious!”
Myasnikov, Navigator
Amber smiled and took the offered hand. “Ensign Amber Josen, Comms… pleasure.” She rose up out of her chair to look over the Captain’s see to see the guy on the floor. “Oh, hello…” she said in surprise. “Well, good thing I’m not security, huh? I didn’t even see them down there.” she stood up the rest of the way.
Kohana had been so intent on his work that he hadn’t heard the other two enter. When he realized others were on the bridge, he figured it was other technicians making some final adjustments to the various consoles
“Hey you… legs… yeah, you under helm control. Wanna say hi?” She was laughing to let him know it wasn’t a superior come to chew him out.

CommsRealizing, she was talking to him, the helmsman slid out from underneath the console and brushed himself off. When he was on duty, Kohana’s long, black hair was normally pulled back into a long braid. Now however, it fell loosely across his shoulders and back. He threw his head back to get the hair out of his face. His skin was naturally brown, as if he had spent most of his life in the sun. His dark brown eyes took in the other two as he noticed the braids on their sleeves.
He stood up straighter, and addressed the officers. Begging your pardon, Leiutenant. ensign. I’m Chief Black Wolf. Head of Flight Control. I wasn’t aware that any of the commissioned officers were on board. I hope someone was there to welcome you?”

Another swish of the doors opening and closing again. A man with silver wired glasses, black hair and moustache and wearing a short sleeved blue Uniform stood. There was no braiding signifying rank on this uniform variant. He took in the people standing, then said gruffly, “Gathering on the bridge is it?” He smiled before stepping down into the area by the captains chair.
“Paul Hudson.” He said by way of introduction and offered a hand to those present in turn. “You can call me Doc.”
Doc Hudson
CMO
Ooc: altering slightly to fix the split. Sorry!Almost as soon as the Doc had made his introduction, the doors slid smoothly open once again, this time to reveal a tall, slender woman in engineering red. Her pointed eyebrows and ears identified her immediately as a Vulcan, her temperament confirmed it beyond all reasonable doubt.
Marching immediately to the centre of the bridge, the woman began pulling at the hem of her very short skirt as she walked. “These uniforms are completely illogical. This dress would be more practical for an Orion dancing girl than it would for an engineer such as myself. I can not even begin to imagine how I am to traverse jefferies tubes without damaging such thin fabric. And these boots do not seem optimal for twelve-hour shifts on the engineering deck.”
- T’Pria (Chief Engineer)
Amber smiled at the Engineer Chief. “You have jumpers you can wear during work. These are more like formal uniforms. Even I have a single jumper for everyday wear. They should be in your quarters in the lockers.”
If it had been choreographed it still wouldn’t have been as funny. Amber leaned on her console and spoke into the pause. “Well, I was gonna speak but folks keep walking in.” She nodded to the helm Chief first. “Relax Chief, the uniform is in case I have to run off ship for something. Easier and faster when in a uniform. And I don’t think anyone else here minds if we are in civvies till we get the Captain’s word we are officially no longer in dry dock. Once that happens, then we’ll worry about formalities. Till then…” She glanced at the others and smiled.
“Let’s try introductions once more. I’m Amber Josen, Comms…” She then introduced those she knew, “This is Chief Blackwell, our helmsman. And this is Myasnikov, our Navigator… Doc, you came in last, so we know you… that leaves…” Amber glanced at T’Pria to let them introduce themselves.

Had there been someone having to manually open and close the doors that led to the bridge, they would probably have been rather irate by now, as for the umpteenth time, someone stepped up to them and caused them to open. Stepping through, still dressed in her white sneakers, blue capris and green halter tank top, Quinn surveyed the assembled group of individuals. “Woo, party on the bridge!” she thought with so much exuberance that the words escaped from her mouth before she could stop them. Oops… oh well, might as well make the best of it. “So, who’s got the Andorian ale?”
