Dana was able to get the female Marine, who said her name was Corporal Brock, settled with the hypospray. Sadly, the Corporal was not the only one suffering from the trauma of whatever battle they had been involved in.

Malo got the Tellarite Marine with the shattered rib cage into the surgical biobed immediately. The wounds were severe, with massive internal swelling, and the bone shards were getting closer to puncturing a vital organ with each breath.

What happened next became a bit of a blur for both doctors.

Dr. Anu went through Marine after Marine, calming them down, applying sedatives as necessary, and ushering the worst cases to Sickbay. From the shell-shocked comments of the injured or the quiet conversations between those less wounded, she got the impression that the boarding action had gone about as well as the ship-to-ship engagement had.

Dr. Astrel’s time was almost completely consumed by that one patient. It became a battle on multiple fronts, stabilizing one area just long enough for him to move on and deal with more pressing issues. At one point, he even had to induce paralysis in the man’s lungs to conduct the most critical tissue repairs.

Once the Marines and wounded survivors from the various escape pods were processed, Dana returned to Sickbay and let Nurse Molly and a Security officer handle the remaining triage and organization. There were still plenty of injured in Sickbay who needed to be processed, including one grizzled Sergeant missing a section of his abdomen.

When they received word that an evacuee in critical condition was being transported directly to Sickbay, both doctors worked diligently to save the young man’s life. A severe concussion and brain bleed had been compounded by hypothermia as the escape pod’s support systems failed.

Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t save him. Two of the Marines were also beyond saving, and there were now four bodies in the morgue across the hall.

The tempo in Sickbay finally slowed, and both doctors realized how tired they were. They had responded to casualties during the systems failure and had not let up since.

The recovery ward was full… all the beds were occupied, and multiple patients with lesser injuries were sitting on the floor. The tone was somber. A few Marines talked among themselves, but others stared off blankly.

Dana had blankets brought in so the few sitting patients could lie down as well, sitting was a bad position in 80% of all cases, except for cardiac issues.

The Caitian Sergeant started coughing, and the alerts on his biobed started beeping, drawing the two doctors’ attention.

Dana looked up from her conversation with Dr Astrel. “If you want to take a break, feel free. Denobulans only sleep during our hibernation phase and I just had mine, I’m good to keep going.” she said and gave him a smile.

Upon hearing the alarm she went over to the Caitian’s biobed to check the scans to see what was wrong with him.

Dr Anu, CMO

Dana quickly saw that the man’s vitals were spiking. It looked like the stasis field closing off the damaged section was applying too much pressure and hindering the operation of his remaining organs. She didn’t see any medical reason for the change and was left to wonder if the patient had shifted somehow, or if another biobed was acting up.

The Sergeant would need a long-term solution sooner rather than later. His current condition was mostly a temporary measure—a way to keep the man stable while they worked to treat the other patients with the limited number of doctors available.

„Nurse, prep him for surgery right away. And bring all my tools, I don’t want to rely on the biobed, if it malfunctions we’ll switch it off and I’ll continue old style.“ she said resolutely.
She had had it with malfunctioning equipment for today! On Denobula she had done many unaided operations and she knew Caitian physiology well, gladly. Covering her hair with a white cap to avoid it falling into her eyes, Dana and her assistant nurse went to work.

Dr Anu, CMO

OOC: Whoops, I forgot to mention something kind of big.

IC:

As Dana had the patient moved to the second surgical biobed, she couldn’t help but eye the occupant of the other one.

Captain Rende Asam.

She’d had the Captain moved from her cabin to Sickbay as soon as possible after the XO contacted her. The problem was… she had no idea what was wrong with the CO. By most accounts, the Captain was fine. Unconscious, but fitful, as though she were suffering from mild pain… or experiencing nightmares. The one time Dr. Anu had tried a stimulant to wake the Captain, the symptoms had worsened.

The biobed was keeping her stable, and keeping the CO in the surgical ward kept her away from the prying eyes of most of the crew and their new patients.

She still needed to investigate what was going on… but there were more pressing patients. Such as the Caitian Sergeant.

OOC: What’s your approach to this surgery? While keeping with TOS/SNW-era tech?

Gamemaster Mal Fet

OOC: Let’s just say, the right approach. It’s been ages since I’ve seen the TOS episodes and Pille never explained a lot, he just healed everything :-D I seem to remember a healing device like an MRI tube, but I don’t remember what it did…
