Shortly after she had reported for duty, surveyed sickbay, the gymnasium, and the non-commissioned officers quarters on deck 8, she strode to the XO’s office. She was admittedly also eager to check out her private quarters, but that could wait. There were more pressing issues!
She pushed back a strand of her auburn hair behind her ear and straightened up, trying to make herself taller. A vain effort really, but it had become a habit when talking to higher ranking officers.
Then she rang the chime. Should she address him in Andorian? Or would that come across as ingratiating? He had quite a reputation and she couldn’t assume he was as easy going behind the badge as her best mate in the Academy. A shame really, since she knew all the best Andorian jokes still…

Dr Dana Anu, CMO

Thraz poored over the report for the day, the security teams were starting to come together it had taken him some time to wip them into shape. He was inpress though at how quickly they learned. His antena twitched a few times at the response times which had improved sometime.

When the chime rang he did not notice it the first time, finally he raised his head. “Come” he said.

He stood when he saw her, his fit andorian frame streched as he stood. “Ah Doctro Anu, please come in have a seat.” he said his hand giving a slight motion to the seat infront of his desk.

Dana nodded and came in, her gaze taking in his office and how he had decorated it only shortly, then watched him as he sat back down again. He hadn’t been to sickbay yet, sadly, as she was admittedly curious. His antennae shared a handy sensory skill with her ears… both were able to sense changes in air pressure and perceive sound waves and other waves long before human senses could and that piqued her professional interest. But she wasn’t here for that.

She sat down and her piercingly green eyes met his. “Vaanáh-ran Cha Thraz sh’Kellirathras.” she greeted him, making sure to accentuate the last syllables, just like Kuuhl and her host family on Andoria had taught her.

Dr Anu, CMO
OOC: It’s supposed to mean “Well met.” Cha is the polite form of address acc. to memory alpha in Andorian, but I didn’t find a better source. Also, no rush in this thread, because Dana is having a conversation about the topic for this “complaint” with the CSO now in the other thread (not planned but very entertaining ;-). Also, fyi, her back story about Andoria is in her profile.

“Your andorian is not bad, for a non native” he noted a little suprised. “Is that all you know?” he asekd curious about how she had learned it. ” His Antena leaned in as if they were listening.

OOC: Sounds good.

Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

„No, I speak it rather fluently.“ she said indeed in fluent Andorian, albeit with a weird accent that made her long vocals sound kinda funny, probably due to her different anatomy. Denobulans had a very long tongue and Dana had a rather deep timbre voice for a woman.

„I’ve lived on Andoria for more than twenty years before I joined Starfleet. I studied and practiced both Andorian medicine and psychology there in the Doctors Without Borders program.“ her bright green eyes took on a faraway happy look. Oh it felt so good to speak Andorian again. Such a melodic language, in which it was so easy to express emotions just by the tone of your voice. She realised she had missed that. Missed her Andorian family really.
„I stayed with a wonderful host family on Andor. I enjoyed living in a subterranean city.“ her smile widened. „it’s just so cozy.“
Then she seemed to come out of her reverie and pressed her lips together shortly. Way to over share again Dana, she chided herself inwardly.

Dr Anu, CMO

Thraz smiled warmly, there were not many that lived, and stayed on andoria that were not andorian it simply was far to cold. “I’ll know to not turn the heat up in my office next time” he joked, keeping the conversation in Andorian, had had a souther dialact. “Spending so much time on Andoria, must have been difficult, though by your reaction you seem to miss it.” he thought a moment his Antena shifting forward. “Though I can understand that, Andoria is one of the most beautiful places.”.

Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

Dana’s face lit up at his words. “It truly is! And yes I do miss it, especially my host family. They made me feel more at home than my own family. I did have my own room with my own temperature setting, but I didn’t mind so much honestly. Denobulan physiology is not as… delicate as human physiology when it comes to temperature. “ she said, looking a bit forlorn. She didn’t know if he knew anything about Denobulans or how much they needed a community and close friends.
But even only talking Andorian felt like a balm to her soul.
“May I… could we maybe only speak Andorian when there’s nobody else?” she asked and then chided herself. That wouldn’t be often, but there were her department reports to him, so at least once a month or however often he wanted the report.

Dr Anu, CMO

Thraz grinned, “You speak it well enough I would not be offended” he said pausing a moment. “How, If I may ask, did you end up needing a host family ?” he asked, it was not uncommon for andorian’s to take in orphans when required but it was not a standard practice by anymeans.

Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

Upon his answer her smile widened, and for a second it went beyond the usual confines of a human face with the tips of her lips climbing much closer to her ears.
He had payed her a massive compliment, though no non-Andorian would understand the depth of it usually, especially from someone like him. Dana did.

„Well I didn’t need one… the Doctors Without Borders Program gave us the choice between that and single lodgings adjacent to the medical centre I worked and studied in. But…“ and she hesitated, pondering how personal she could get… and deciding to go for it
„Denobulans are a very… communal, family oriented people, much like Andorians, we don’t deal well with isolation.“ she said and gave him a gently searching look. How had he fared, she wondered, as the only Andorian on board, and the XO on top of it.

Dr Anu, CMO
“Isolation,” Thraz repeated, the word tested rather than agreed with. His antennae dipped, considered, then settled. “I don’t isolate well either. Andorians don’t. We simply learn to carry the clan with us when the clan isn’t present.” He paused, and something in his face allowed itself to loosen, fractionally. “It’s not the same. I won’t pretend otherwise to make the answer tidier.”

Dana nodded solemnly.

He studied her a moment, the searching look returned rather than deflected. “You said Denobulans don’t deal well with it either. And yet here you are, a long way from anyone who shares your blood.” His tone was quieter now, no longer the careful cadence of a briefing. “How do you carry yours?”

The officer in her told her this was indeed getting rather unusual for a first meeting, but all the rest of her flourished. This was the kind of conversation that mattered, that felt right. Not that mindless small talk chatter that most humans seemed to revel in!
And his openness was an honour, nothing less. She had to give him the same, even if it wouldn’t be the answer of a perfect officer.

She held his eyes, knowing how important that was, and fighting the instinct to look down. „Not well. I compensate through my work and helping people. The doctor-patient relationship is a poor and short-lived alternative, but it is one.“ she sighed. „We all have goals and aspirations, and I’m not the only species who relegated personal needs to a lower priority for the chance to do something honourable and truly unique, like joining Starfleet.“
a tentative smile returned. She studied him, such an impressive warrior, a Ushaan-Tor hero among Andorians, sitting unassumingly at his desk. On Andoria he probably would never be alone for a second.
„Besides, those who share my blood, my clan, don’t think very highly of me, since I have broken with tradition and I have no husband yet. At my age I should already have three husbands and at least four children.“ she shrugged.

Dr Anu, CMO

Thraz was quiet a moment, his antennae settling into something stiller than idle. “Three husbands and four children is tradition, Doctor, not a law of nature.” He said it plainly, the way he corrected a bad tactical assumption. “My own Keth has opinions about how I’ve spent my years as well. That does not make them correct.”

He considered her a moment longer, the careful cadence gone from his voice entirely now. “Your clan measures you by a count. That is their failing, not yours.” His antennae flicked toward the door, a habit rather than a dismissal. “You said you compensate through your work. Sickbay’s had a week to test that theory. Has it held?”
