The crew of the Sentinel was busy. The ship’s systems had gone haywire, and it took extraordinary effort from everyone onboard to combat equipment failures and put out fires.

The worst was behind them, but the scars remained. Critical systems were operational, but some auxiliary systems were degraded, and built-in redundancies were offline. It would be hard to recover, but the Sentinel had gone through worse and come out the other side before. It could do it again.

The repairs were well underway, so it was just a matter of time before the Sentinel was back at full operational capacity.

Time they might not have.

An alert chimed on the bridge. It wasn’t the usual hail, but a priority alert from a Starfleet Flag officer. The NE on the communications station looked up sharply, then hesitated. “Captain… a priority distress call from Rear Admiral zh’Rhoe. Should I put it through?”

Almost everybody on the bridge would recognize that name. Varah zh’Rhoe was a hero of the Klingon War and had earned the nickname Absolute Zero.

“Put it through Ensign,” Asam said moving over to the comms station to listen to the message.
