Main Sim: Engineering Cascade Failure

OOC: Moving this here Russ so we can focus on your engineering work. His specialty was in starship systems, and environmental controls, but the warp core issues kind of took the focus at the moment. Jova had fire suppression equipment in hand as he attempted to deal with the explosions. In a way, that was controlling the environment, but the klaxons, the explosions and the chaos was continuing.
He was used to working under pressure, he was used to working on engines under pressure, but not like this. But, he wasn’t about to lose his head. His many times great ancestor, Joel Kiwa would have faced similar as a Lighthorseman on the battlefields of WWI and he survived, and Jova was determined to survive this.
Jova opened a panel, ran a scan to see if he could find a source of the systems cascade failure and warp core shut down and kept his eyes on the panel of his diagnostic toolkit. “Come on, Sentinel,” he said softly as he waited for any results, “Don’t let me down, girl. We’ve got a long ride ahead and I need you running true.”

“Mount up and Make it Sing”The core is currently flickering with an unnatural greenish-orange corona, and alarms are blaring. The temperature in the core and the room is rising, and the air smells of ozone and overheated circuitry. Engineering stations line the walls, their displays showing cascading system failures. Several crew members are working frantically at the stations, while others are attempting emergency repairs on the plasma conduits. The main console is dark — Chief Engineer is missing.
Jova’s scanner showed that the plasma conduit junction he was looking at was weakened - deliberately. The magnetic containment regulators in the panel also showed signs of tampering.

The unnatural greenish-orange glow of the warp core reflected in Jova’s eyes, a stark contrast to the red alert strobes painting the engineering deck. The heat was already oppressive, thick with the acrid scent of ozone and melting polymers. He firmly planted his boots on the deck plates, shifting his weight instinctively to spare his bad left knee the worst of the ship’s shuddering vibrations. At the very least, the rising temperature in the room was keeping the join from stiffening up.
He lowered his scanner, his jaw setting, as he read the results of the scan. This wasn’t just a cascade failure … sabotage? But who? Klingons or Romulans, maybe. And where was the chief? Injured or kidnapped or dead? His idle speculation wouldn’t help at the moment, instead he had to focus on the task at hand.
Jova hefted the heavy fire seppression canister he’d been using to beat back the spot fires. If he could lower the temperature inside the open panel housing the tampered magnetic containment regulators, he could get his hands inside without losing skin. It was his hope that a short, controlled burst of cyro-foam would drop the temperature of the superheated metals sufficiently to arrest the melting of the duotronic relays.
Looking up through the smoke and chaos, Jova caught sight of Lieutenant Jilva.
“Lieutenant Jilva!” Jova called out, pitching his voice to carry over the blaring klaxons without losing his composure. The last thing he wanted to do was cause further panic. But at the same time the Lieutenant needed to know what he’d found. He gestured urgently toward his station, his tone steady, his expression concerned. “I’ve got a weakened plasma conduit junction here, and, well you should see this.”
Once Jilva reached his station, Jova continued, “the readings show that the magnetic containment regulators have been deliberately tampered with.” He looked straight at the Lieutenant, “We’ve got sabotage. Targeted sabotage.”
He pointed his hydro-spanner at the sparking panel, “I’ve used the fire suppression tools to hopefully reduce the temperature in it so I don’t lose my hands to the heat. Assuming it works, I can use a manual bypass on the relays here to try and restore the magnetic interlocks, but I’ll need someone to reroute the primary plasma flow to the secondary EPS grid while I do it to relieve the pressure. What do you reckon? You up for it?”
Jova shot a quick glance at the dark main console where the Chief should have been as he waited for the temperature to reduce to a safeish level before diving in. “Lieutenant, with the Chief missing and confirmed sabotage on the core, the Bridge needs to know we’ve got a hostile situation down here. Do you want to make the call, or should I?”
Not wanting the situation to worsen, Jova grabbed a heavy physical bypass cable from his toolkit and leaned over the panel, ready to go when the lieutenant either confirmed his plan or had another solution. He looked at Jilva and waited for the go ahead … and hoped the temperature was sufficiently cooled for his hands to survive.

OOC: Thanks, EvilJen, hopefully I’ve sufficiently backtracked from TNG to TOS/SNW techs.
