OOC: Changed the title as our new sim will be starting soon.“Thank you Lieutenant” he said taking the information, “I was wondering if you could accompany me to those meetings?” he asked, “I’m afraid, i’m new to starfleet politics and could use your expert assistance” he noted his antena bent forward as if they were listening for an answer.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelThe yeoman nodded crisply, “Of course Commander. I’ll be glad to do so.” Her mind was already compiling all the information and reports she would bring with her. She would make sure the commander had an immaculate uniform as well. Not that he wasn’t, but she knew how such a thing impressed the brass. As if real work on a ship didn’t get one dirty? Absurd.
Yeoman Rand
NE smith looked back at the commander. “Sir we will be arriving at the starbase in 3min” he said. Thraz was ready to get the ship repaired and get underway again. “Execellent ensign, once we drop out of warp request docking” he noted “Make ready for docking” he said to the bridge
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS Sentinel“Aye Sir,” the NE at the comms station said. The helm nodded. The call for docking went out across the ship. The Sentinel dropped out of warp and the request was sent immediately. Orders were relayed between comms and the ship slid into the docking bay at the station. “Cmdr., Admiral Ingles sent word he is waiting at the airlock for you.”
Rand stood from her position and hoisted her PaDD. The Admiral would want a full accounting.
Cpt. Asam, CO
Thraz looked at Rand, “Here we go” he said motioning for her to walk with him to the airlock. He took a breath and then opened the air lock. “Admiral” he said extending his hand.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelRand fell into step beside the Commander. She passed him a datadisk. “All the department reports from the current mission along with the ship’s logs,” she said quietly. “Captain Asam is not awake yet.” She then took a step back as they approached the Admiral.
Yeoman Rand
Admiral Ingles shook his hand and then paused looking past him. “Where is Captain Asam?”
Cpt. Asam, CO
“The captain was seriously injered and is in medical Admiral” he said shifting into the admirals view. “I’m currently acting Captain of the ship until she recovers.” he noted. “Which will not be today”
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelThe Admiral gave a slight grunt. “That is unfortunate. This way.” He turned without further niceties and led the way in silence to a conference room. He sat at the head and motioned for sh’Kellirathras to sit. Rand took a position slightly behind the commander. “Now Commander, you can explain why the Sentinel did not finish the mission assigned.”
Cpt. Asam, CO
Thraz did not respond one way or another and followed the Admiral and sat down. He looked over at the admiral, “Sir, we were being attacked by an entity that far out matched our ability to combat it” he said plainly, “Lieutenant, Kindly send the admiral all the details of the mission” he requested.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelRand didn’t speak. She simply tapped her stylus on her PaDD and two data disks slid out of the bottom compartment. She set one next to the admiral and then reached over and slid the other into the main console on the conference table. The computer trilled and then, “Files Intact and Ready for Inquiry and Recall.”
Yeoman Rand
“Let me know if you have questions Admiral” he said his Antenna flicking sideways.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelThe Admiral scanned the information. “I have several. The first being that your sensors detected a structure, a station of sorts. Why was contact not made?”
Cpt. Asam, CO
Because I giant alien nebula ship and people eating monster was trying to kill us. “Sir, and unknown entity was preventing that, eventually trying to kills us” he noted more professionally.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelThe Admiral raised a disbelieving eyebrow. “It seems to me it would be difficult to determine the motivation and goal of this entity without communicating.” He skimmed over the report. “Captain Asam threatened her crew? She was removed from duty? But not in the brig?”
Cpt. Asam, CO
Thraz wondered if the admirl could read or if he just like to be complicated. “As the report states Sir, the entity was manipulating someo the crew mostly those with metal abilities, Vulcan, betazoids, and our deltan comunications officer who was able to comunicate with it, of a sorts, imagry feelings that sort of thing” he mentioned
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelThe admiral snorted, “It looks like you were affected as well, Cmdr?” The admiral didn’t like species with extra sensory perception nor did he particularly like Asam. She had embarrassed him more than once.
Cpt. Asam, CO
Thraz looked at the Admiral his antena shifting slightly. “It tried, but as you can see by both my report and the doctor, I was not having any of it, and it gave up and released the doctor.” he noted. This man had a serious chip on his shoulder but it bothered Thraz little his life was filled with people like that.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelThe Admiral leaned forward his face stern. “So you were able to convince it to leave you alone, but it was too strong for the crew to reason with?” He looked over the report again. “I want your whole crew tested for hallucinogens. This report is absurd.” Rand stiffened. The Admiral was suggesting the whole crew was involved in a drug trade. That was absurd!
Cpt. Asam, CO
Thraz tensed if he were back home he would have stabbed the man, but that is not the way the pink skins worked. “You may certainly issue that order sir, though” he said with a obviously strategic move. “This is Starfleet sir, absurd is our secret moto” he waited only a second. “I would expect that your request would come with probably cause for such a violation of one’s basic privacy, I can’t just drug test the ship without it. ” he noted. “I would hate for you to have false accusation charges from one of the crew” he said, mainly me and everyone else on the ship he thought
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS Sentinel“Admiral, the toxic scenes from all the directly affected crew are in Dr. Kreed’s report. He already tested for illicit drugs and they came back negative. Page 13 of the report, Admiral.” Rand spoke up, quiet and shy, but it stopped the Admiral in his tracks. Yeoman Rand was well known for her efficiency and accuracy. She might be a yeoman but she could embarrass him. She flipped through the report, and of course the blood tests were there with clearly marked results and meanings. “Very well,” he growled.
Rand stepped back. She made the Admiral mad, but he was wrong and she was right.
“And what of this hull damage to the ship?” The Admiral pointed out. “We can’t just have tactical officers damaging ships to show off.”
Cpt. Asam, CO
“Sir we were being attacked and overrun by an alien entity, it was not the torpedoes that damage the ship it was the creature. ” he said his Antenna turning at the Admiral. “The lieutenant’s actions saved the ship” he noted. “As it says in the report.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelThe admiral looked at Thraz, “Yes well, he’s a bit of loose cannon isn’t he? If the captain was incapacitated where were you, as second in command?”
Cpt. Asam, CO
His antena twitched, if they had been back home his challenge to his integrity would have been met with ritual combat. “As the report states sir, I was training security officers when the initial contact happened. I was then called to the doctors quarters to check on him and the rest we have discussed. ” he paused. “I apologize if my report was not clear admiral I’ll be sure to extend the length of the next to ensure it is easier to understand” he said with a polite respectful tone.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelRand’s posture shifted. How dare this admiral accuse the crew of such misbehavior! It wasn’t her place to say anything though. “Hmmm,” the admiral, “and his first reaction was to blow something up. Not the best person to be left in charge.” He turned his eyes on the young yeoman. Cpt Jameson had sang her praises and he’d tried to get her for himself, but she had declined the appointment. It damaged his ego, and things that damaged him he damaged in turn. “And what about you Yeoman. I’ve heard you are the best at what you do. That no starbase or ship can function without you. Where were you to advise Lt. Ra’ti on the appropriate regulations and make sure he complied? Not as good as they say I suppose. Perhaps it wasn’t your duty performance they were praising.”
Rand felt that immediate rush of anxiety and fear and racing of her heart and the deafening whooshing roar in her ears as the admiral addressed her and put her on the spot. Then the implication of what he was saying hit her. Was he really suggesting that she…? Yes, yes he was, and he was NOT allowed to do that. “First of all Admiral, I can assure you that Lt. Ra’Ti did everything he was supposed to, by the letter. I know because I was on the bridge the whole time. Let me quote the directives for you.
“Regulation 619: The commanding officer is required to relieve themselves of command if their current mission has left them emotionally compromised and unable to make rational decisions. The captain realized she was compromised by what we later discovered was a telepathic attack and relieved herself.
“Regulation 19, Section C: Allows any officer to take command of a starship. This regulation is active only under at least one of three conditions: When an imminent threat was detected, we were under direct threat of the ship being physically ripped apart by the entity; When the lives of Federation citizens were in danger, we are officers but also citizens, and the Sentinel has civilians on board who were in danger; and finally When no other officers of equal or higher rank are present to mitigate the threat, Lt Ra’Ti was the highest ranking officer on the bridge and the only one qualified to handle a tactical situation.
“Directive 010: Before engaging alien species in battle, any and all attempts to make first contact and achieve nonmilitary resolution must be made. Lt. Ra’Ti attempted peaceful communications as did Dr. Sovak and Chief Karlson. Their attempts are explicitly detailed in the logs and reports. The entity did not want to communicate in a peaceful manner.
“Regulation 3, Paragraph 12: In the event of imminent destruction, a Starfleet captain, or highest ranking bridge officer, is authorized to preserve the lives of his crew by any justifiable means. Lt. Ra’Ti did not attack the entity, he used the explosives to break the entity’s hold on the ship. His aim was not to hurt it or cause an outright conflict. Once we were free he set course at maximum warp without further provoking the entity.
“All of this is documented quite clearly, Admiral. IF Lt. Ra’Ti or Cmdr sh’Kellirathras had acted against standing regulations and orders it would be in the report. If you don’t trust the reports, you have the authority to check the recorded visual and audio logs of the entire ship.”
Yeoman Rand
Thraz smiled inwardly but his face did not show expression, this one had fire though he could sense the anxiety it produced in her, his antena shifted and relayed the phermones. “Is there anything else Admirl?” he hased pointedly trying to shift the admirals attention away from his embaresment.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelIngles’ eyes narrowed at the yeoman. Apparently Jameson wasn’t exaggerating about this yeoman. She was very good, and she did it without looking it up. However he could read people too. He noticed she wasn’t brave enough to correct his behavior. Interesting. He leaned toward her, eyes boring into her. “Very good Yeoman.” Rand didn’t reply. Silence seemed to be wiser.
Ingles turned to Thraz, “I’ll look at these recordings as the Yeoman suggests.” He glanced up as Rand stood and stepped to the side of the room and flipped open her communicator. [O]Rand to Sentinel. Admiral Ingles would like to view the security footage and logs for our last mission. Please prepare a sync up with the station computer. [o]
[o] “Aye Yeoman, relaying coms now” [R] Dovek open a joint channel, he had hear rand a thousand times already but other than the short time she was on the bridge during hte mission he had not had a chance to meet her het, it would be enjoyable, he throught given her background.
Rand was incredibly shy but she needed to make more of an effort. Dovek seemed so nice, and she usually spent a lot of time needing comms sent, so she needed to do better.
[o]Aye Rand. Establishing link now. Sentinel out.[C] Rand stepped over to the conference table and turned the terminal toward herself and set the connection and then turned it toward Thraz to input his command codes to allow the link up for the Sentinel’s main computer and database.
Yeoman Rand
“Excellent Sir” he said , “I’m sure you will find everything is in order” he noted standing next to rand he waited for the admiral to dismiss them
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS SentinelThe Admiral nodded, “I will review these. You are dismissed. For now.” He turned to the screen and began watching.
Cpt. Asam, CO
Thraz took in the admirals departure, wishing he could challenge the man to ritual combat for questioning his intentions. He then looked down at Rand. “Well played Yeoman, you can let that breathe out you have been holding” he said more directed at her anxiety level that she was trying to hide but could not from from his antenna. “You are very good at your job” he noted. “It took a lot of courage to stand up to him like that” he said starting to walk back to the ship, not waiting for her to fall in but knew she would be right there.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS Sentinel
Rand of course fell into step beside him. She let out her breath slowly willing her anxiety to dissipate. She flushed a little under his words, no one had ever told her she was courageous except her brother. That didn’t count because he had so say that. “Thank you, Cmdr,” she spoke softly. “He had no right to do that. Our responsibility as officers is to make sure we all uphold the standards of Star Fleet.”
